Dear Peter, I am very exciting to hear that you are coming to our school soon. Now let me to introduce our school to you. Our school is a famous school with long history. We have much experienced teachers and excellent equipments. There were two teaching buildings. One is for seniors while the others is for juniors. There is also a library and two lab buildings. Besides Chinese, maths, English, physics and chemistry, we have some other optional courses as well. The students can choose that they like to attend. I am looking forward to meet you soon.

One day after school, I went to the teacher's office to see my teacher, but nobody was there. As I was about to leave, I noticed a piece of paper on the floor. I picked it up and saw the words "FINAL-TERM EXAMINATION" at the top. I put the paper into my school bag secretly and ran out of the room.

After I came back home, I took out the paper quickly. It was the exam paper of my worst subject, History. I felt excited. My heart beat fast. I took out my History book and started working on the answer. I had never answered any questions so seriously.

On the day of the History exam, I went into the exam hall confidently. When the paper was sent to me, I dreamt of getting the highest mark in the whole grade and could not help smiling. "My History teacher always encouraged me to work hard and get better grades, but I let him down time and time again. This time I will give him a big surprise," I thought.

When the teacher said we could start, I turned the paper over. To my surprise, all the questions were different. Later I felt nervous. In the end, I almost left the paper undone. After the exam. I ran to the toilet, took out the paper and carefully read it from the top. Oh! It was last year's exam paper. I read all the questions but I hadn't read the date.

This is a lesson in which I know I have to put my feet on the ground. I regretted doing such a silly thing. After that, I told my teacher the truth and I promised to be honest. From then on, I worked harder than ever before.

The Great Wall of China is by far mankind's largest building. In the 16th and 17th centuries, it snaked 6, 400 kilometers or 4, 000 miles across northern China.Below are the four most visited Great Wall locations. All are near and north of Beijing:

Badaling:

This is by far the most popular Great Wall of China site for travelers, mainly because it is close to Beijing and is much easier to climb than the other parts. The Badaling part was built around 500 years ago and was rebuilt by the Chinese government over the last few decades.

Mutianyu

It is an hour farther away from Beijing than Badaling.  This is a favor-the extra travel time means that fewer vacation tour groups will travel here.  This site is excellent. The wall is clearly steeper than Badaling's. However, like Badaling, Mutianyu has a cable car(缆车) for tourists who choose not to walk up the wall.

Simatai

You must travel yet another hour to reach the site from Beijing compared with Mutianyu  and, therefore, you will meet even fewer vacationers than at Mutianyu.  Some of the wall lies on high and narrow mountain ridges (). Because it is especially steep and there is no cable car, I don’t suggest the site to those not in good physical condition.

Shixiaguan

This is the closest part to Beijing. The Shixiaguan part is still being rebuilt is open to the public. You can view it as driving to the Badaling part. You can climb it but remember that the Shixiaguan wall sits on a long, very steep slope(斜坡).

21.Badaling has most travelers mainly because          .

A. it is the highest part

B. it has the cable car service

c. it is easy to climb

D. it is the closest to Beijing

22.What can we learn about Mutianyu?

A. It is the most crowded part.

B. It is not convenient for weak people.

C. It takes an hour to reach it from Beijing.

D. It is quite far from Beijing but worth seeing.

23.Which is the farthest part from Beijing?

A. Badaling.             B. Simatai.                C. Mutianyu.    D. Shixiaguan

Water goes around and around Earth in a never ending journey called the water cycle (循环). The sun heats up lakes, oceans, and other wet places on Earth. When the water gets warm enough, it changes into vapor. Plants also give off lots of water vapor (水蒸气). Some of this water vapor cools off high in the sky and becomes clouds. Then it falls back to Earth in a new place as rain or snow. This cycle happens over and over again.

The ground can absorb water like a sponge (海绵). If you could see this ground water, it wouldn’t look like a lake or river. The ground water is mixed in with the rocks and sand that lie in layers () below Earth’s surface.

Ground water moves along slowly. How slowly? Maybe 1.5 kilometers in one century. Some of this water has been underground for thousands of years. And once ground water is pumped out of the ground from a deep well ()  by people, it may take hundreds of years for another water to take its place.

48. In which order does water go around Earth ?

   a. Fall down as rain or snow.

   b. Heated up by the sun on lakes, oceans and other wet places.

   c. Cool off high in the sky.

   d. Form clouds.

   e. Change into vapor.

  A. dacbe             B. becda              C. caebd              D. bceda

49. The ground water seems to _________.

  A. be just on the ground                       B. be pure water like that in a lake or river

  C. exist in rocks and sand                      D. flow along like rivers or streams

50. The underlined word “pumped” in the passage can be replaced by ___________.

   A. run              B. pushed              C. drawn             D. picked

It is very easy to cook instant noodles (方便面) in a short time by putting the noodles into the boiling water. However, have you ever thought whether it is the right way of cooking instant noodles?

When we first took out the noodles, we can notice that the noodles are joined together nicely as a piece. However, few people know that when the instant noodles are made, wax coating (蜡涂层) will be put on the noodles. The wax coating on the instant noodles is used to prevent the noodles from sticking() together. It makes the noodles look very nice.

Researches have shown that the wax coating on the noodles is quite harmful (有害的) to our health. If you eat the instant noodles today, youd better wait for several days before you eat instant noodles next time since our bodies need about 3 days to clear the wax coating away from our bodies. Do you know the consequence (结果) of having too much wax coating in our bodies? It will lead to cancer if the wax coating is stored in our bodies for a long time.

So it is very important to wash away the wax coating on the instant noodles if we don’t want our bodies to be in danger. You can do like this: 1. Wash the instant noodles with warm water first, and then pour away the water containing the wax coating. 2. Repeat Step 1 and try to stir (搅动) the noodles to wash away the wax coating on the noodles before cooking it in a new pot of water.

I hope this passage will make those who enjoy eating instant noodles and eat the instant noodles often know about the hidden danger of instant noodles. Although the instant noodles are very easy to cook and help us save a lot of time, I still don’t think it healthy to eat them too often or too much. Why not say “No” to instant noodles and have some healthy food?

28. People use wax coating when making instant noodles to ____.

A. make the instant noodles more delicious                 B. stop the noodles from sticking together

C. help keep the noodles from going bad                     D. make it easy to cook the instant noodles

29. According to the passage, if people eat instant noodles too often, they will probably ____.

A. put on some weight                     B. save a lot of time

C. catch some illness               D. save much money

30. What does the author call on people to do?

A. Learn how to choose the right instant noodles.

B. Take instant noodles as breakfast every morning.

C. Eat instant noodles as soon as they buy them.

D. Have healthy food instead of instant noodles.

31. The passage is mainly written for people who ____.

A. want to do some research on instant noodles

B. make a living by selling instant noodles

C. plan to invent a new kind of instant noodles

D. like instant noodles and eat them often
