I don't like talking openly about my feelings. That's probably why I am writing this, because it seems an easier way of telling you how thankful I am to you.
When I first got ill two years ago and had to be taken to hospital, you were the first person I called to tell, maybe because I knew Mum wasn't going to answer her phone, but probably because you are the first person I call in an emergency.
As one illness turned into another and I was stuck in hospital for weeks, feeling sorry for myself, you were still at my beside trying to talk to me to cheer me up. The illness hit my kidney(肾) and we then realized that I was going to need a transport sooner or later. You put yourself forward to be tested as soon as possible and it turned out you were a perfect match.
Then last year, in March, we both went down for the operation. I woke a few hours afterwards and felt better. It wasn't until the following day that we got to see each other again. We hugged silently and asked one another how we were. But I never said the words I should have—thank you. To this day, I still haven't said those words to you for my kidney.
In the month after the operation, when we were both at home recovering, I made you lunch, went for walks with you. It's my way of saying that I care for you a great deal and that I am truly thankful for what you did for me.
I want you to know that my silence towards you and the times you tried to talk to me and got nothing weren't because of you. Maybe one day when you will read this, I hope you know that in my own silent way, I am for ever thankful.
—It isn't that terrible. You should look on the bright side.
Do you have the experience of taking music lessons against your wishes? Perhaps you have complained about it because you thought it took you much playtime. But now you'd better thank your parents for their time and money spent on your musical training. A recent study suggests music lessons can make children have better memories than their peers (同龄人).
The Canadian study showed that after one year of musical training, children did better on a memory test than those who didn't take music lessons.
The researchers made the children aged between 4and 6into two groups﹣one group of children took music lessons outside school, and the other didn't take any musical training. In one year, they took four tests in different times. The results showed brain (大脑)development changes at least every four months.
The children taking music lessons not only did better in musical listening but also made faster progress in other ways, such as reading, writing, Maths and IQ.
People say music is the good medicine for a broken heart. Now it seems music can also help us to improve our memories. We are sure to find more and more in the wonderful world of music.
Many people have great difficulty in saying goodbye. But from goodbye moments, we can always learn something.
Once, I overheard(无意中听到) a father and daughter in their goodbye moment. The father said, "I love you, I wish you enough." The daughter answered, "Daddy, our life together has been more than enough. Your love is all that I need. I wish you enough, too, Daddy."
They kissed and she left …
The father walked over towards me. I could see he wanted and needed a cry. He came over to me and asked, "Did you ever say a forever goodbye to someone?" Before I could answer, he went on, "I am old and she lives much too far away. I know her next trip back would be for my funeral(葬礼)."
"When you were saying goodbye I heard you say, 'I wish you enough.' May I ask what that means?"
He began to smile, "It's a wish that has come down from my great-great-grandparents. And my parents used to say it to me."
He stopped for a moment and looked up as if trying to remember it. He smiled even more.
"When we said 'I wish you enough,' we were wanting the other person to have a life full of enough good things."
Then, turning towards me, he shared the following "wish" from his heart.
I wish you enough sun to keep you bright.
I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun more.
I wish you enough happiness to keep you alive.
I wish you enough pain so that the smallest joys in life appear much bigger.
I wish enough hellos to get you through the final goodbye.
My friends, I wish you enough.

The "Freshman Fifteen"
You may not have heard the words "freshman fifteen" before, but they are very important for students who are entering university. A freshman is a first-year college student. "Fifteen" refers to fifteen pounds— the fifteen pounds added to a student's weight in his or her first year. There are a number of reasons why first-year university students gain weight; but it's encouraging to know that freshmen don't have to add these harmful fifteen pounds.
Mistakes choosing food
University kitchens serve many kinds of food. Some students choose unhealthy food, because now their parents are not nearby to help them choose. Some students visit the kitchen many times while studying. Late at night, some students get harmful fast food such as French fries with coke to drink. Students also have less time for walking, running, and doing sports because of their schoolwork.
Eating right
If you're careful, you don't have to add fifteen pounds. Here are some ideas:
*Think more about what you eat.
*Eat plenty of vegetables and healthy meats.
*Don't eat desserts full of sugar, have fruit after dinner.
*Try not to eat so much junk food while you study.
*It's all right to have a little fast food sometimes—but not often.
*Write down the foods you eat.
Remember that the "freshman fifteen" can happen to anyone. Talk to your friends about it. Together, try to eat healthy food and not to eat junk food. Walk, run, do sports—move and you will feel better! And it is always more fun with friends. Help each other and you can have a healthy and happy freshman year.
