If there's one thing I've learned from my years of being a kid, it's that you have ZERO control over your own life.
Ever since school ended, I haven't had anything I've needed to do or anywhere I've needed to be. As long as the air-conditioning was working and the TV remote had batteries in it, I was ready for a relaxing summer holiday.
But then, out of the blue, this happened--"Pack your bags. We're going on a road trip!" Momsaid excitedly.
This isn't the first time Mom has sprung a trip on us without any warning. Last year on me first day of summer, she said we were going to visit Aunt Loretta at the nursing home.
It wasn't my idea of a fun way to kick off the summer. One time when we visited Aunt Loretta, her roommate grasped me and wouldn't let me go until someone gave her a chocolate cookie:
Mom kept talking about going to the nursing home for a whole day, which made me worry a lot. But at breakfast the next morning, she told us where we were really going--Disney World.
I was very happy, because I was really worried about spending the whole week at the nursing home. So was Dad.
But when my little brother, Danny, heard about the change he became very angry. Mom had talked up the Aunt Loretta trip so much that Danny was actually excited about going there.
We ended up putting off our trip to Disney so we could visit Aunt Loretta.
I tried to talk Mom into letting us do something normal, like going to a water park for the day, but she didn't want to hear it. She said that spending a lot of time together in the car would be a "bonding" experience for the whole family.
【1】What did the author prefer to do during his summer holidays?
A.Visit Aunt Loretta with the family. B.Travel with his family anywhere.
C.Look after his little brother. D.Watch TV comfortably at home.
【2】From the passage, we can learn that the author __________.
A.loved his aunt very much
B.got pretty excited about the road trip
C.felt helpless with his mother's surprise trips
D.hated Danny for not going to Disney World
【3】Who makes the final decision in the family?
A.The author B.Mom C.Dad D.Aunt Loretta
【4】The author wrote the passage to __________.
A.remember his mother B.tell the story of his aunt
C.express his love for his brother D.share his childhood experiences

There are various reasons why people travel. Some tourists go to see battlefields or other historic remains. Others are looking for culture, or simply want to have their pictures taken in front of famous places. Most European tourists are looking for a sunny beach to lie on.
Northern Europeans are willing to pay a lot of money for the sun because they have so little of it. People of cities like London, Copenhagen and Amsterdam spend much of their winter in the dark because the days are so short, and much of the rest of the year in the rain. This is the reason why the Mediterranean(地中海)has always attracted them. Every summer many people travel to Mediterranean resorts(度假胜地)and beaches for their vacation. They all come for the same reason: sun!
The huge crowds mean lots of money for the economics of Mediterranean countries. Italy's 30,000 hotels are booked without a break every summer. And 13 million people camp on French beaches, parks and road sides. About 37 million tourists visit there yearly, or one tourist for each person living in Spain.
But there are signs that the area is getting more tourism than it can deal with. The Mediterranean is already one of the most polluted seas on earth. None of these, however, is influencing anyone's fun. Obviously, they don't go there for clean water. They allow traffic jams and seem to like crowded beaches. They don't even mind the pollution. No matter how dirty the water is, the coastline still looks beautiful. And as long as the sun shines, it's still better than sitting in the cold rain in Berlin, London, or Oslo.
【1】Europeans travel mostly for the reason that _________.
A.they wish to be away from the cold and darkness
B.they want to see some famous historic sites

A.all the 37 million people living in Spain are tourists
B.every person living in Spain has to take care of a tourist
C.there are a large number of tourists visiting Spain
D.every family in Spain is visited by a tourist every year
【3】According to the text, which of the following might influence the tourists' fun at Mediterranean resorts and beaches?
A.Rainy weather. B.Crowded buses.
C.Polluted water. D.Traffic jams.
【4】What is the main idea of the text?
A.People travel for different reasons. B.Travelling causes a lot of problems.
C.Europeans are fond of travelling. D.Northern Europeans travel for "sun".

①As you grow older, you'll be faced with some challenging decisions—like whether to cut class or try cigarettes. Making decisions on your own is hard enough. But when other people take part in and try to pressure you one way or another it can be even harder. People who are your age, like your classmates, are called peers. When they try to influence how you act, to get you to do something, it’s called peer pressure.
②Peers can have a positive influence on each other. Maybe another student in your science class taught you an easy way to remember the planets in the solar system. Maybe you got others excited about your new favorite book, and now everyone's reading it. These are examples of how peers positively influence each other.
③ Sometimes peers influence each other in negative ways. For example, a few kids in school might try to get you to cut class with them. Your soccer friend might try to convince you to be mean to another player and never pass him the ball.
④ It is tough to be the only one who says “no” to peer pressure, but you can do it. Paying attention to your own feelings and beliefs about what is right and wrong can help you know the right thing to do.
⑤You’ve probably had a parent or teacher advising you to “choose your friends wisely”. Peer pressure is a big reason why they say this. If you choose friends who are never absent from class, smoke cigarettes, or lie to their parents, then you probably won't do these things either, even if other kids do.
⑥If you continue to face peer pressure and you're finding it difficult to deal with, talk to someone you trust. Don't feel guilty(内疚)if you've made a mistake or two.
【1】The passage is most probably written for _________.
A.doctors B.parents C.teachers D.students

It is important for parents to know how to help their kids eat healthily. Here are a few easy ways:
【1】 Though kids may keep asking for less nutritious(有营养的)foods, parents should decide which foods are regularly provided in the house. Kids won't go hungry. They'll eat what's available in the fridge at home.
【2】 Lots of parents grew up under the clean-plate rule, but that way doesn't help kids listen to their own bodies when they are full. When kids feel full, they're less likely to overeat.
【3】 Food preferences are developed early in life, so try to offer different kinds of foods. Likes and dislikes begin forming even when kids are babies. Parents may need to serve a new food on several different occasions for a child to accept it.
【4】 Food is not love. Find better ways to say "I love you". When foods are used to reward kids and show love, they may start to turn to food when feeling worried or unhappy.
【5】 When trying to teach good eating habits, try to set the best example. Choose nutritious foods, eat at the table, and don't forget breakfast.
A.Start them young.
B.Rewrite the kids' menu.
C.Be a role model and eat healthily yourself.
D.Offer praise and attention instead of food treats.
E.Let kids stop eating when they feel they've had enough.
F.You decide which foods to buy and when to serve them.
