Earlier this year, we asked our readers to vote for their favorite children's museums. Shortly after announcing the winners, these museums had to close their doors to help protect their communities from the spread of COVID-19. But they also bring some of their programming online.
The Magic House | St. Louis, Missouri
The folks at The Magic House in St. Louis are sharing their expertise through their Magic at Home series. Each edition features a project that kids and their parents can do with household materials, like making a banjo or animal figures.
City Museum | St. Louis, Missouri
While the City Museum is closed to visitors, the museum staff, artists and historians have launched City Museum on Air. This series takes place each weekday with an eclectic lineup of programming - everything from free art classes, storytelling sessions and museum tours at upcoming exhibits.
Kohl Children's Museum | Glenview, Illinois
This winning children's museum calls itself "The place where awesome lives," and would-be visitors can bring that awesome into the home through its library of online teaching resources, story time sessions and "Home Zone" projects. My parents owned a neighborhood bar called the M Ninety-Seven, named for a nearby highway, on the comer of State Fair and Hoover Avenues in Detroit. Built in the '30s, it had a long wooden bar that was on the right as you walked in. I grew up in the bar. When most kids my age were at the park playing ball or riding bikes, I was watching old men shoot pool and play shuffleboard (沙狐球).
My father spent his entire life serving drinks and bringing cheer to customers. There were the white-collars who would stop in to unwind from the day's stress. They would bend elbows with the blue-collars and day laborers on either side of them. It always surprised me that they were able to mingle(交往).I would sit at the last table by the kitchen, sipping Cokes and eating a bag of Better Made potato chips with my twin sister, watching it all.
It was the 1960s version of a reality show. There was Big Bill, the tough talking policeman who stood six and a half feet tall and weighed just shy of the beer truck he drank daily. His views on society could be hard to listen to at times. But one night, he showed that he was all talk. While Bill was on patrol (巡逻),a call came over the radio about an apartment fire. He raced scout car to the scene, beating even the fire crew. The building was ablaze. He ran up three flights of stairs through smoke and flames to rescue two frightened children. Bill carried them out in his arms like each was a carton of eggs. The man with an explosive mouth but a keg-sized heart had saved the day.
Years passed, my father died, and the bar was sold. Like secondhand smoke, the words and the scenes from that bar stayed with me.
【1】What did the author want to tell us by the underlined sentence in paragraph 1?
A.His family built a wooden bar.
B.He didn't play with kids at the park.
C.He liked making friends with old men.
D.He was familiar with everything in the bar.
【2】What's the purpose for the white-collars to go to the bar?
A.To drink beer. B.To watch others.
C.To communicate. D.To relax themselves.
【3】Which of the following can best describe Bill?
A.Rude and careless. B.lough but a little bit shy.
C.Complaining but responsible. D.Talkative and narrow-hearted.
【4】What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.The bar impressed the writer a lot.
B.The father didn't manage the bar well.
C.Secondhand smoke is similar to the bar.
D.The writer has nothing to do with the bar.

The food delivery industry now is a hotly competitive business, attracting the world's biggest moneybags such as Amazon, Alibaba and Soft-Bank. Balancing the needs of diners, cooks and couriers(快递员)is complicated. Most new companies lose money. Yet they have received more than $30bn from venture capitalists (投资家)in the past five years. And they are likely to get more.
The food-delivery business can be divided into two camps: mostly profitable veterans(老牌公司)and loss-making newcomers. The veterans, founded at the start of the century, are led by publicly traded Grubhub in America, and Just Eat and Takeaway in Europe. They account for the largest share of the market, offering customers online access to restaurants. Their relatively simple business model, in which they take a cut of the bill from the restaurants, has enabled Grubhub and Just Eat to turn a profit for years. Takeaway makes money in its home market of the Netherlands.
The newbies, born more recently, have turned a once-tidy business into a food fight. For most of them, delivery is their core business, so they share their cut of the bill with riders as well as restaurants. This substantially broadens the market to restaurants but profit suffers.
The only mouthwatering aspect of the delivery business is its potential size. According to Bernstein, a brokerage(经济公司),almost a third of the global restaurant industry is made up of home delivery, takeaway and drive-throughs, which could be worth $l tm by 2023. In 2019 delivery amounted to $161bn, leaving plenty of room for online firms to expand.
Yet it is by no means clear if anyone can make money by delivering meals. In fact, the economics may be even worse. Delivery businesses have ways to cut their losses. One is to diversify further, by delivering groceries, flowers, booze, and even people, as well as meals. Another is to provide cheaper meals by centrally supplying ingredients to restaurants. In the dog — eat — dog world of food delivery, it will still be hard.
【1】How can the veterans make a profit?
A.They get lots of support from capitalists.
B.They offer customers great convenience.
C.They draw a part of profit from restaurants.
D.They balance the complicated needs successfully.
【2】What makes the delivery business attractive?
A.Massive profits. B.Development prospect.
C.Satisfying service. D.Efficient management.
【3】What is the author's attitude towards making money by delivering meals?
A.Positive. B.Definite. C.Uncertain. D.Confident.
【4】Which can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Delivery businesses balance some complicated needs.
B.Meal delivery attracts the world's biggest moneybags.
C.The two camps of delivery businesses compete fiercely.
D.The food-delivery business is anything but a tasty business.

Have you ever wondered why hair turns gray as you get older and whether there is something you can do to prevent graying or at least slow it down? Here's a look at what causes hair to turn gray and some of the factors that affect graying.
The age at which you'll get your first gray hair (supposing your hair doesn't simply fall out) is largely decided by genetics. You'll probably get that first strand (缕)of gray hair around the same age your parents and grandparents started to go gray. However, the rate at which the graying progresses is somewhat under your own control. Smoking is known to increase the rate of graying. Generally poor nutrition, insufficient B vitamins, anemia, and untreated thyroid (甲状腺)conditions can also speed the rate of graying.
What causes your hair's color to change? That has to do with the process controlling the production of the paint called melanin (黑色素),the same material that tans your skin in response to sunlight. Every hair cell contains melanin cells called melanocytes. The melanocytes produce eumelanin(真黑素),which is black or dark brown, and pheomelanin, which is reddish-yellow, and pass the melanin to the cells which produce keratin (角蛋白), the chief protein in hair. When the keratin-producing cells die, they keep the coloring from the melanin. When you first start to go gray, the melanocytes are still present, but they become less active. Less paint is kept into the hair so it appears lighter.
As graying progresses, the melanocytes die off until there aren't any cells left to produce the color. While this is a normal and unavoidable part of the aging process and is not of itself associated with disease, some autoimmune diseases can cause premature graying. However, some people start going gray in their 20s and are perfectly healthy.
Extreme shock or stress can also cause your hair to go gray very quickly, though not overnight.
【1】What determines your first strand of gray hair?
A.Genes. B.Ages. C.Nutrition. D.Disease.
【2】What does the underlined word “tans” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.Avoids. B.Protects.
C.Sunburns. D.Covers.
【3】What do we know about melanin in paragraph 3?
A.It helps the hair keep shining. B.It can prevent the hair turning gray.
C.It is mainly made of hair protein. D.It makes the hair look lighter.
【4】What is the text mainly about?
A.The process of hair changes.
B.The causes of hair turning gray.
C.The factors of hair components.
D.Relationship between gray hair and health.

Fortune Cookie Friends
Jenny frowned (皱眉)as she helped her mother and father set out the cooking supplies in the shiny steel kitchen. Her family had just moved here from San Francisco, having bought a small restaurant, which was set to open in the next few days.
“Moving here was a dumb idea," Jenny complained mostly to herself
"What's that?” Her mother asked, opening a box and lifting out several pots.
"Nothing," Jenny mumbled (咕哝).The girl had been angry about the move, but her parents had made the decision and were now too busy getting ready for the grand opening to listen to her complaints.
The first few days at her new school hadn't been easy, either. She found it hard to talk to people she didn't know, and it seemed like the students hadn't even noticed her. Jenny sighed and got back to washing dishes.
On the day of the grand opening, Jenny's parents were all smiles, welcoming customers into the restaurant, brightly decorated in gold and red. Even Jenny was in a good mood as she rushed around, seating guests, handing out menus, and pouring tall glasses of water. This was a big day for her family.
At one of the tables sat a family with two daughters who were about Jenny's age. As she filled their glasses, Jenny realized the twins were in her class. Jenny ducked her head down so her long hair covered her face, and she turned away from the table.
Jenny's mother found her soon after, in the kitchen loading the dishwasher.
"Honey, what are you doing back here? We need you out front with the customers."
"Mom, I don't want to be out there. There are kids from school!"
"So?" her mother asked. "That's good! Go to take them some fortune cookies and say hello!" She said to Jenny, pointing at the fortune cookies paper which read: “Many friends are found with a single
