If you’ve applied or are currently applying to Ivy (常春藤) League schools, you’ve likely heard the phrase “Ivy Day”.
What Is Ivy day?
Ivy Day, or Ivy Admissions Day, is the day when all Ivy League schools release their regular admissions decisions online for regular decision first-year applicants. The eight Ivie—Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Penn, Princeton, and Yale—typically release their decisions at the same exact time.
Because all Ivies release their admissions notifications at the same time through their respective online portals (门户网站), and because applicants are eager to get their results as soon as possible, Ivy Day often means long loading times and a bigger chance of page crashes due to the heavy online traffic. Therefore, if you hit any major online traffic or are facing constant page crashes, it might be better to get off your computer and wait an hour or two until the traffic dies down a bit and you can check your admissions results without issue.

Top schools that are not in the Ivy League typically have different decisions release dates. In 2018, Amherst released its admissions decisions earlier than Ivy Day on March 23. Occasionally, a non-Ivy school’s decisions release date overlaps with Ivy Day; NYU, for instance, released its decisions on Ivy Day in 2018
When Is Ivy day 2020?
Unfortunately, the exact date for Ivy Day 2020 has not yet been officially confirmed by any Ivy League schools. Below is a table showing Ivy Days from previous years and their days, dates, and times:

Pearl Fryar knew he wanted to do something unique with the farmland he bought in South Carolina. He wanted to win the local garden club’s “Yard of the month” award.
Fryar didn’t have the money to purchase new trees, so he began by using bushes and shrubs that a local nursery had thrown away—plants that looked dead to most people.
Because he worked days at a can factory, Fryar often tended his garden at night. Neighbors got used to seeing him stand on the ladder, cutting up his steadily growing bushes. The shrubs began to take on different shapes. As the years went by, the creations became more delicate. Fryar began planting trees and using zip ties, coat hangers, PVC pipe, and even his wife’s old stockings to achieve the forms he wanted. “He has a way of handling plants to do things he wants them to by training, bending, wiring, and clipping.” said a neighbor.
Many professional gardeners are amazed by what Fryar has been able to accomplish. Some plants which wouldn’t survive in the South thrived under his care.
Fryar’s attention to detail and his willingness to work hard have made him a local hero. He was the first African American to win “Yard of the Month” from the local garden chub.
Fryar’s garden now includes about 400 species of plants and 150 different plant sculptures. A box for donations can be found on the property, but giving is optional. Fryar welcomes people who can’t afford to pay. He understands. He’s been there. “You can be somebody he tells students who visit the garden. “Show me anyone who works at anything with a passion and has patience, and they’re going to be successful. Art—no matter whether you choose to create it yourself or simply observe and enjoy it—is a relaxing and inspiring activity for many people. However, the particular benefits of artistic expression go much further.
Studies suggest that art therapy (疗法) can be very valuable in treating issues such as depression and anxiety disorder. It is a great way to express your emotions without words, process complex feelings and find relief.
You don’t necessarily have to see a therapist in order to experience some of the benefits of artistic expression. There are many simple activities you can try from the comfort of your home such as art journaling, drawing, making collections, sculpting with clay, etc. It doesn’t matter what media you choose. The only thing that matters is that you feel comfortable using it. Human beings are naturally creative, and all you need to do to complete an art therapy activity successfully is to be with yourself and your emotions. Once you free your creativity, your inner artist will quickly wake up.
However, working with a licensed therapist also has its advantage because a professional can tailor each activity to your own needs. If the activities are done in a group, they are excellent for building healthy connections with other people, which may be very helpful if you are fighting depression.
Experts agree that art therapy has many benefits, from promoting your self-respect, and providing you a safe outlet to relieve your emotions, to giving you a sense of control over your life and helping you to get to know and understand yourself better. During the process of art creation, you will be taking yourself on a journey of self-discovery that will help you get rid of emotional roadblocks, and learn how to communicate with yourself and others.

Digital devices are great, but they can also be annoying when it comes to writing or drawing. Most of the time you must rely on your fingertips to do the typing or drawing for you, and what you wanted to write or draw might not come out the way you imagined. A new pen called “Phree”, created by Israeli company called OTM Technologies, aims to change the dependency that most of us have when it comes to writing or drawing in digital form.

The Phree pen looks a lot like a regular pen in both size and shape. The difference is that you can use the Phree pen to write on any surface (from a table to a wall), and then transfer that writing directly to your target device.
Phree uses a sensor called a 3D laser interferometer (激光干涉仪). The laser beams are projected (投影) on the surface and they will be reflected back to the interferometer. By analyzing these beams’ tracks, the laser interferometer measures the hand motion while writing.
The pen connects with your phone via a Bluetooth. Phree can be used to take notes using various applications on the target device. The notes will appear on the target device whenever you open it. You can even receive, write and send text messages using the device display (显示装置) and it can function as an earphone. Phree can also be used as a regular computer mouse whenever it is connected to a target device. The device can also be used as ID equipment as it can precisely analyze the way a person writes.
“We see Phree as a standard input device in the mobile world, in the same way the mouse became a standard part of PC use. We also see benefits to emerging technologies like AR and VR headsets, interactive TV, and IoT (Internet of Things ).” Gilad Lederer, co-founder of OTM Technologies said.
【1】What inspires the OTM Technologies to create Phree?
A.Drawing pictures in a better way.
B.People’s relying too much on typing.
C.Making digital devices less annoying.
D.The inconvenience of data input using fingertips.
【2】How does Phree measure the movement of hands?
A.By sending out laser lines.
B.By connecting with the Bluetooth.
C.By analyzing the reflection lines of lasers.
D.By checking the writing ways of certain person.
【3】What can we infer about Phree from paragraph 4?
A.It can identify people.
B.It can connect to the Internet.
C.It can be used as a remote control.
D.It can function as a device display.
【4】What will Phree be like in Lederer’s opinion?
A.It will create more new technologies.
B.It will be widely used in many areas.
C.It will be the best tool to write letters.
D.It will take the place of the mouse of PC.

A young and successful manager was traveling down a neighborhood street, going a bit too fast in his new Jaguar. He was watching for kids darting out (窜出) from between parked cars and slowed down when he thought he saw something. As his car passed, no children appeared. Instead, a brick hit violently into the Jags side door! He stepped on the brakes and backed his Jag back to the spot where the brick had been thrown.
The angry driver then jumped out of the car, grabbed the nearest kid and pushed him up against a parked car shouting, “What was that all about and who are you? Just what the heck are you doing? That’s a new car and that brick you threw is going to cost a lot of money. Why did you do it?”
The young boy was apologetic. “Please, mister... please, I’m sorry but I didn’t know what else to do,” he explained. “I threw the brick because no one else would stop…” With tears rolling down his face and off his chin, the youth pointed to a spot just around a parked car. “It’s my brother,” he said. “He rolled off the sidewalk and fell out of his wheelchair and I can’t lift him up.” Now sobbing, the boy asked the astonished manager, “Would you please help me get him back into his wheelchair? He’s hurt and he’s too heavy for me.”
Moved beyond words, the driver cooled his anger.
