Diabetes is caused by a group of metabolic disorders in which there are high blood sugar levels over a long period of time. There are three main types of diabetes:
Type 1 Diabetes results from the body not having enough insulin.
Type 2 Diabetes mainly happens to those who do not have enough physical exercise, eat too much unhealthy food and get too heavy.
Gestational Diabetes is the third main form. It appears when a woman is having a baby. She will probably get well again after the birth of the baby.
Diabetes can bring serious problems. People with diabetes, especially the Type 1, will easily get thirsty and hungry, and quickly lose weight. If it is not treated, it will develop rapidly (weeks or months), and cause many long-term complications. All the complications relate to damage to blood vessels. For example, damage to the eyes. It is caused by damage to the blood vessels in the eyes, and results in gradual vision loss and blindness. The complications will greatly increase the risk of diabetes, by which about 75% of the deaths are caused.
According to a report from the WHO (World Health Organization) in 2015, about 415 million people have diabetes worldwide, which means 8. 3% of the adults in the world have diabetes. From 2012 to 2015, about 1.5 to 5 million deaths each year resulted from this disease. The global economic cost of diabetes in 2014 was around 612 billion USD.
A healthy life style can help prevent diabetes. Doing a lot of physical activities and having a healthy diet will help have normal body weight. Healthy diet includes foods rich in whole grains and fiber, foods with good fats from nuts, vegetable oils and fish, little sugar, and less red meat.

Do your eyes jump a few times a second over a period of time? A jumping eye can happen to anybody at any time. There are several reasons for a jumping eye. Let's have a look at it!

Tiredness
Not getting enough sleep or working for too long without rest may cause our eye to complain. Scientists aren't sure why, but they've found that getting more rest will make our eyes feel better. Remember not to stay up late.

Dry eyes
More and more people work office jobs that require a lot of sitting and staring at a computer screen. This unhealthy way of life can lead to dry eye syndrome (DES干眼症). When our eyes are too dry, they can't help jumping to keep them wet. To stay away from DES, use eye drops if you use the computer for more than seven hours a day and make sure to look away from the screen once every 20 minutes.

Stress(压力)
This is the number-one reason for a jumping eye. It does harm to our eyes if it lasts for too long. When we' re under a lot of stress, the body gives out stress hormones (荷尔蒙) which leads to a “fight or flight” response. To solve the problem, we can see our friends or relax ourselves in order to reduce the stress that might lead to jumping eyes.

【1】Which one of the following might NOT cause a jumping eye according to the passage?

It has been around for centuries, but up until very recently, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) wasn't fully accepted abroad. The 2001 film Treatment(《刮痧》)tells the story of a Chinese man in the US who's charged with guasha, a form of TCM treatment, to cure his grandson's disease.
During the last 10 years or so, however, TCM has been getting increasingly popular all over the world. A report says this style of health care, which includes different forms like herbal medicine and exercise, has spread to 183 countries and areas.
"We have set up 10 TCM centers outside China, and all of them are popular among locals," said Wang Guoqiang at a news meeting on Dec 6. "Governments of 86 countries and areas have signed agreements with the Chinese government on TCM corporation(合作)."
One of the reasons behind the growing popularity of TCM is the increase of scientific research into it. And after Tu Youyou-the Chinese scientist who discovered the anti-malaria(抗疟疾)drug qinghaosu(青蒿素)-won the Nobel Prize, TCM became even more famous all over the world.
However, all these achievements in TCM don't mean that it's problem-free. Over the years,TCM has faced challenges in being able to prove that it has certain effects.
Some researchers have suggested TCM should be more exact and work together with western medicine.
"Bringing together with western medicine and TCM, rather than being in competition, is where the potential(潜力)for great effects is," said Bernhard Schwartlander, the China representative(代表)of the World Health Organization.

Height is just one of the features your genes(基因) decide. In fact, because you have two parents, your genes provide you a height that usually lands somewhere between the height of each parent. If both your parents are tall, then most probably you will be tall, too. But if you have questions about how tall you’re going to be, ask your doctor if he or she can help you find them out.
But genes don’t decide everything. For example, eating an unhealthy diet can keep you from growing to your full potential(潜力). Getting plenty of sleep and enough exercise will help you grow to the expected height.
It’s natural that you’re wondering how fast you should grow. There’s no perfect or right answer. Generally speaking, kids grow about 6 cm a year between age 3 and the time when they start puberty.
Your doctor will know how your growth has been going over the years. 2 cm here and 3 cm there make a little difference to the height you’re at now. How have you been growing up to this height? What other changes may your body be going through?
Don’t be amazed if you seem to have grown a lot in a very short time. Everyone has a growth spurt(高峰) during puberty. The age for starting puberty is about 10 for girls and about 11 for boys. But it can be earlier or later — between 7 and 13 for girls and 9 and 15 for boys.
You’11 usually begin to notice that you’re growing faster about a year after your body starts to show the first changes of puberty.
