We were silently waiting on the platform in the late afternoon. There he was, my 80-year-old grandfather with his silvery hair. And there I was, a teenage girl in my jeans and T-shirt. His aged but still clear blue eyes were taking in the scene as I wondered how I was going to get through the next two days. Why did I ever agree to accompany my cranky grandpa on a train ride from New York to Georgia?
No one else wanted to be the fellow traveler since my grandfather refused to fly. In contrast, I loved to fly since I wanted to get to the destination as quickly as possible. No matter what anyone told my grandfather about the comfort and safety of flying, he refused to book a flight, saying, “It's not just the trip; it's the adventure of getting there.”
With my first step onto the train, the journey was already different from what I expected. The train was modem and filled with friendly travelers. We settled into the club car, where we could enjoy food and drinks while watching the scenery pass. Instead of listening to my music, I became a willing audience and learned family history that I had never had the time or patience to learn. With teary eyes, he told me that going to family events was hard for him since my grandmother died. It always made him think about those who were no longer with us. For the first time I felt I understood him. I gained a new appreciation for our time together.
In this fast-paced world, we often miss important moments. There is great significance in listening to elders who offer a piece of their history and experience. I may be more open to opportunities to stay with my grandpa. Life isn't just about the destination; it's about the journey.

A. Her grandpa's appreciation of her.

C. The sad stories of her grandmother.
D. The new understanding of her grandpa.
【4】What can we learn from the text?
A. Listening to elders will help us learn a lot.

When he was a kid, Alex Vardakostas began working in the grill (烧烤店)alongside adult employees. He estimates he has cooked 50,000 burgers (汉堡包).
Now, Vardakostas co-owns a burger joint called Creator, in San Francisco, California. But he doesn't stand over a grill flipping burgers, and neither do his employees. At Creator, burgers are cooked and assembled entirely by machine. And because it costs less to maintain the machine than to pay a kitchen's worth of employees, burgers cost less.
Creator is just one example of a growing phenomenon: Automation is taking over more and more jobs. That means work is done by machines or computers instead of people.
According to a report from McKinsey Global Institute, about 800 million people could be forced out of their jobs by 2030. McKinsey predicts that as technology improves, some tasks will be done more quickly or cheaply by machine, so businesses will install robots or computer Programs to perform them.
Some jobs are more likely to be automated than others. Machines can do jobs that have three characteristics: They are routine, repetitive, and predictable. Some of these jobs pay low wages and require little education. But others pay well and demand an advanced college degree. Taxi drivers, cashiers, lawyers, and doctors all perform some tasks that can be done by machines.
So what jobs are safe from automation? Answers include coming up with new ideas or work that involves interacting with other people and building relationships. Jobs in engineering, science, the arts, therapy, and nursing are examples.
At Creator, Vardakostas hired people to do just that kind of work. Instead of repetitive burger prepping, workers interact with customers and advise them on flavor pairings, like mushroom sauce with pickles and onion jam. "In our world at Creator, all the work is creative and social," Vardakostas says. "And I think that is what we're going to see more of the future. ”
【1】What's the difference between Creator and a traditional restaurant?
A. There is neither worker nor waiters at Creator at all.
B. Some work is done by machines instead of humans at Creator.
C. The number of owners of Creator is larger than that of a traditional one.
D. The price of burgers at Creator is higher than that of a traditional one.
【2】What does the report from McKinsey Global Institute predict?
A. A lot of people will lose their jobs.
B. More cheap machines will be invented.
C. More working opportunities have to be created.
D. Humans will have difficulty in running business.
【3】What kind of person is most likely to lose jobs in the future?
A. A writer who always publishes works.
B. A nurse who is good at taking care of patients.
C. A cleaner who works in a big supermarket.
D. An engineer who can design new machines.
【4】Why does the author mention Creator?
A. To make an advertisement for Vardakostas.
B. To increase the plot of the story.
C. To introduce a modern restaurant.
D. To introduce the topic of the text.

A new study by the British government has discovered the mental well-being of the country's teenage girls has worsened.
The survey, which included 30,000 14-year-old students, showed 37 percent of the girls with psychological stress, rising from 34 percent in 2010. British boys' stress level was actually seen to fall over the same period, from 17 percent to 15 percent. The report's authors pointed out the “arrival of the social media age" could be a major contributing factor for increasing stress among teenage British girls.
“The adolescent years are a time of rapid physical, cognitive and emotional develop- ment," Pam Ramsden, a lecturer in psychology at the University of Bradford in the United Kingdom, wrote in a recent blog post. "Teenagers interact with people in order to learn how to become competent adults. In the past, they would engage with parents, teachers and other adults in their community as well as extended family members and friends. Now we can also add social media to that list of social and emotional development. " Throughout adolescence, girls and boys develop characteristics like confidence and self-control. Since teenage brains have not completely developed, teens don't have the cognitive awareness to keep from posting inappropriate content. Furthermore, this content can easily be circulated far and wide with disastrous implications.
"Social media can also feed into girls' insecurities about their appearance," Ramsden said. These sites are often filled with images of people with body type unattainable to the normal person. However, these images and the messages tied to them creep into social standards.
"Social media allows girls to make comparisons among friends as well as celebrities and then provides them with 'solutions' such as extreme dieting tips and workouts to reach their goals,” Ramsden said. "Concerns about body image can negatively impact their quality of life preventing them from having healthy relationships and taking up time that could be better spent developing other aspects of their personalities."
【1】What is a change of teenagers' interaction with others according to the text?
A. The new way of interacting.
B. The different place of meeting.
C. The added communicator of talking.
D. The unusual feeling of communicating.
【2】How do the images about fine body shape influence the girls?
A. They offer the girls social standards to follow.
B. They help the girls work out and set up their goals.
C. They lead the girls to spend more time on their appearance.
D. They bring the girls more energy to build healthy relationships.
【3】What may be Ramsden's opinion according to the text?
A. People should follow the celebrities' example.
B. The teens should get rid of the bad effects of social media.
C. It's not worthwhile for people to care about their body image.
D. It's necessary for teenagers to make comparisons among friends.
【4】What may be the best title for the text?
A. The social media's effect on girls
B. The well-being of girls in Britain
C. How to deal with girls' interaction
D. How to interact with girls in Britain

Children start out as natural scientists, eager to look into the world around them. Helping them enjoy science can be easy, as there's no need for a lot of scientific terms or expensive lab equipment. 【1】.
Give them time to think. Studies over the past 30 years have shown that, after asking a question, adults typically wait only one second or less for an answer, no time for a child to think. 【2】, children can give more logical, complete and creative answers.
Watch your language. Once you have a child involved in a science discussion, don t jump in with “That's right" or “Very good”. 【3】. But in talking about science, quick praise can signal that discussion is over. Instead, keep things going by saying "That's interesting or "I have never thought of it that way before”,or coming up with more questions or ideas. Never force a child to think. 【4】, as children are always thinking, without your telling them to.
What's more, giving them freedom to think can turn a conversation into a performance. The child will try to find the answer you want, in as few words as possible, so that he will be a smaller target for your disagreement.
【5】 Real-life impressions of nature are far more impressive than any lesson children can learn from a book or a television program. Let children look at their fingertips through a magnifying glass (放大镜), and they'll understand why you want them to wash before dinner. Rather than saying that water evaporates (蒸发), set a pot of water to boil and let them watch the water level drop.
A. It doesn't make sense
B. Listen to their questions
C. Teach them by examples
D. You only have to share your children's curiosity
E. It began with a set of questions that lasted nearly two hours
F. When adults increase their "wait time” to three seconds or more
G.These words work well when it comes to encouraging good behavior
