When we want to tell other people what we think, we can do it with the help of words. We can also do it in many other ways, too. Sometimes we move our heads up and down when we want to say “yes”,and we shake our heads when we want to say “no”. When you wave to a friend, you are using body language. When you smile at someone you mean to be friendly. When you put one finger in front of your mouth, you mean “be quiet”.
Yet, people in different countries may use different body languages.
An Englishman was in Italy. He could speak little Italian. One day while he was walking in the street, he felt hungry and went into a restaurant. When the waiter came, the Englishman opened his mouth, put his fingers into it and took them out again and moved his lips. In this way, he meant to say, “Bring me something to eat”. But the waiter brought him a lot of things to drink, first tea, then coffee then milk, but no food.
The Englishman was sorry that he was not able to tell the waiter he was hungry. He was ready to leave the restaurant when another man came in. The man put his hands on his stomach, and this body language was good enough for the waiter. In a few minutes, the waiter brought him a large plate of bread and meat.
Finally the Englishman had his meal in the same way.
【1】If you want someone to be quiet, you can________.
A.wave your hands B.smile to him
C.talk to him loudly D.put one finger in front of your mouth
【2】How many persons are mentioned in this story?
A.2. B.3. C.4. D.5.
【3】Why did the Englishman use his body language?
A.He was hungry to speak. B.He could not speak Italian.
C.He thought it is more useful than words. D.He learnt that from others.
【4】How did the Englishman get what he wanted finally?
A.By asking another man for help. B.By drawing what he wanted.
C.By changing his body language. D.By showing his anger.

Reading can be a social activity.Think of the people who belong to book groups. They choose books to read and then meet to discuss them. Now the website BookCrossing.com turns the page on the traditional idea of a book group.
Members go on the site and register the books they own and would like to share.BookCrossing provides an identification number to stick inside the book. Then the person leaves it in a public place, hoping that the book will have an adventure, traveling far and wide with each new reader who finds it.
Bruce Pederson, the managing director of BookCrossing, says,"The two things that change your life are the people you meet and books you read.BookCrossing combines both."
Members leave books on park benches and buses,in train stations and coffee shops.Whoever finds their book will go to the site and record where they found it.
People who find a book can also leave a journal entry describing what they thought of it.E-mails are then sent to the BookCrossers to keep them updated about where their books have been found.Bruce Peterson says the idea is for people not to be selfish by keeping a book to gather dust on a shelf at home.

Love makes the world go around and a mother’s love never changes
After 21 years of marriage, my wife wanted me to take another woman out to dinner and a movie. It’s hard to imagine that the other woman was my mother, who has been living alone for 19 years, but I am too busy to visit her often. That night I called to invite her to go out for dinner and a movie.
“What’s wrong? Are you well?” she asked. My mother always doubts that a late night call is a sign of bad news.
“It would be pleasant to spend some time with you,” I responded.
As I drove over to pick her up, I noticed that she seemed to be nervous about our date. But she smiled from a face that was as beautiful as an angel’s. “I told my friends that I was going to go out with my son, and they were impressed,” she said.
We went to a restaurant that was very nice and comfortable. My mother look my arm as if she were the First Lady. After we sat down, I had to read the menu. Her eyes could only read large print. I saw mom sitting there looking at me with a smile on her lips.
“I used to have to read the menu when you were small,” she said. “Then it’s time to let me return the favor,” I responded.
During the dinner, we had an agreeable conversation - nothing special but catching up on recent events. We talked so much that we missed the movie. As we arrived at her house later, she said, “I’ll go out with you again, but only if you let me invite you.” I agreed.
