The rebuilt Notre Dame (巴黎圣母院) could feature a futuristic glass design, solar power, and an urban farm that supports vulnerable and homeless Parisians, if one architecture firm’s vision is realized. In April, French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe announced an international competition for architects to redesign the cathedral’s 19th century spire (尖顶), which fell down after a fire destroyed the 850-year-old Gothic landmark. Paris firm Vincent Callebaut Architectures (VCA) responded to the call with an eco-friendly design that supports the local population and produces more energy than it uses.
The Vincent Callebaut (VC) project is titled “Palingenesis”, a Greek concept of rebirth or recreation. The film proposes a new roof made of galss, oak and carbon fiber, which connects “in one single curved stroke of pencil” to the sloping spire. The rooster which topped the original spire, regained front the remains after the fire, will resume its watch from the new glass design, while the cathedral’s choir will be “bathed in natural light”.
Beneath the spire, the roof will host a fruit and vegetable farm run by charities and volunteers, in order to produce free food for vulnerable local people. “Up to 21 tons of fruits and vegetables could be harvested and directly redistributed for free each year,” the firm said in a press release. “To that end, a farmers’ market would be held every week on the forecourt of Notre Dame.” The roof and spire will also produce electricity, heat and ventilation (air circulation) for the cathedral: an “organic active layer” within the glass will provide solar power, while the roof’s diamond-shaped “scales” will open to offer natural ventilation—a design inspired by termite mounds (白蚁丘). The spire will at as a space in which hot air accumulates in winter.
“How can we write the contemporary history of our country, but also that of science, art and spirituality together?” the firm said in a press release. “We seek to present a supreme project, a symbol of a lively and ecological future.” If the Vincent Callebaut design is selected, the firm said, the reborn Notre Dame will define “the new face of the Church in the 21st century”, presenting “a fairer symbiotic relationship between humans and nature.”

A.It is focused on the theme of “green”.
B.It gets the most local support than the others.
C.It can recover Notre Dame’s original appearance.
D.It is from the most famous architect around the world.
【2】What does the underlined part “resume its watch” in paragraph 2 mean?
A.Be made of high-tech materials. B.Show people the right time again.
C.Be removed and placed somewhere else. D.Overlook Notre Dame again at its original place.
【3】What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about?
A.The inspiration of the design. B.The function of the roof and the spire.

【4】What can be inferred from the last paragraph?

A new study published this week in the journal Nature Communications has concluded that a 100 percent change to organic (有机的) food production in England and Wales would actually lead to a great increase in greenhouse gas emissions (排放). In turn, this would contribute to further climate change.
Although organic farming directly pours out fewer emissions than conventional farming—around 20 percent lower for crops and 4 percent for farm animals—it produces notably less food. As to this study’s findings, total organic agriculture in England and Wales would produce 40 percent less food. With less food in the market, the countries would need to increase food imports, which would produce more global greenhouse gas emissions.
Organic farming also increases the amount of absorbing carbon, a process where carbon dioxide (CO2) is “absorbed” out of the atmosphere and captured by plants and stored in the soil. However, even a total change to organic farming would only be equal to a tiny part of the higher emissions from overseas land use.
“We predict a drop in total food production of 40 percent under a fully organic farming process, compared to conventional farming, if we keep to the same national diet,” Dr Adrian Williams, lead author and reader in Agri-Environmental Systems at Cranfield University, said in a statement. “This results from lower crop quantity, because output is limited by a lower supply of nitrogen, which is mainly from other crops or solid waste from cattle on the grassland.”
Nevertheless, it is important to note that organic farming still holds some useful benefits for the environment, such as reducing exposure to chemicals and improving the varieties of creatures. In conclusion, the study suggests that organic farming will continue to play a key role in resolving the world’s environmental problems. However, it’s just one part of a much wider solution.
【1】What will total organic agriculture bring to England?
A.More main food. B.More species crop.
C.More food imports. D.More fresh oxygen.
【2】How does organic farming increase the amount of absorbing carbon?
A.By taking in CO2. B.By changing CO2.
C.By giving off CO2. D.By producing CO2.
【3】What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A.The ways to reduce organic farming. B.The results caused by organic farming.
C.The solution to the environment problems. D.The advantages of organic farming.
【4】Which of the following is the best title of the text?
A.Organic farming, green food B.Organic farming, our hope in future
C.Organic farming, a mistake we made D.Organic farming, a double-edged sword

In an ancient folktale, a giant rock blocks the entrance to a care filled with treasure. A door appears only for those who speak a secret phrase aloud: “Open, sesame (芝麻)!” 【1】
Passwords have changed ever since. Now they safeguard digital treasures, such as pictures, messages, and documents. But the reason why the phrases exist is still the same: to keep the wrong people out. 【2】 And when they can figure out a person’s password, they can access private information. This allows them to play practical jokes, such as posting that information online. 【3】
There are passwords to avoid if you want to be safe online. The most popularly used password is 123456. This is the first guess hackers will make. They will then try to use public information about a potential target. 【4】 Hackers type this information into computer programs that can guess the target’s passwords.
One of the best ways kids can keep their information secure is by thinking up strong passwords. So how can you invent a password that’s easy for you to remember but hard for someone else to guess? 【5】 For example, a lyric from your favorite song, or the title of a book or movie. It’s best if the phrase is relevant to your life because you’ll be less likely to forget it. Then take the first letter or first couple of letters from each word in that phrase, and begin switching those letters to symbols or numbers. Use both uppercase and lowercase (大写和小写) letters to make the password even trickier to crack (破解).
A.You can think of a fun phrase.
B.This is an early example of a password.
C.This may include a date of birth or a pet’s name.
D.You will benefit from making your passwords stronger.
E.No wonder your information was stolen a couple of times.
F.In the digital world, these “wrong people” are called hackers.
G.Even worse, the hackers might use the information to commit crimes.
