Fight to the finish
In a match that was called “one of the greatest fights I’ve ever seen in my life” by fight commentator (评论员) Joe Rogan, Chinese MMA (mixed martial arts, 综合格斗) fighter Zhang Weili beat Polish fighter Joanna Jedrzejczyk on March 7.
Zhang, 30, and Jedrzejczyk, 32, squared off (打斗) in Las Vegas, with Zhang successfully defending her strawweight (草量级) UFC (终极格斗冠军赛) title. The fight was highly anticipated, as both women are known as top fighters among their peers.
Zhang’s training was cut by the novel coronavirus outbreak. It forced her to travel from Beijing to Thailand and then to Abu Dhabi before arriving in Vegas about a week later than planned, according to China Daily. Worse still, Zhang was offended (激怒) by a post on social media in which Jedrzejczyk seemed to make fun of the outbreak. In a mock poster that Jedrzejczyk posted, she wears a gas mask (防毒面具) standing behind Zhang.
Although the post was later deleted, Zhang said that she was fired up to make Jedrzejczyk pay for the tasteless joke in the octagon(八角格斗场).
In the end, Zhang scored a narrow win over Jedrzejczyk, with both ending up in the hospital due to the intensity (激烈程度) of their fight.
“All fighters deserve respect from one another in the octagon. I don' t like people hitting each other with trash talk," said Zhang following her victory. “We go for the championship with our punches (拳头) but we shall never end up being remembered as only talking with violence (暴力)."
“Now the virus situation is not just affecting China, but the whole world. I hope everybody in the world can stand together to fight the virus with a united effort,” she said.

When I was younger, I wished for a Porsche and a big house. That was my idea of success. I took all the advanced classes possible and took the exams with my mind set on going to a key school. I just knew that I would somehow become famous and be able to afford that car and the dream house. All the way through junior year, my mind was planning this beautiful future.
Then in the eleventh grade, many losses changed my mind. First, one of my friends died at the age of 16. Soon after, my great-grandmother passed away, and on the same day, my beloved fourth-grade teacher. They left me not knowing what to do or where to go. Death had never touched me so closely.
After a long period of emptiness, it finally struck me; life is not promised and neither is my future success. While I was going through the actions in an attempt to achieve material success, I was not enjoying my daily life. I was just existing. I realized that life has more purposes than getting materials, which will only be yours until you can no longer keep up with the payments. I realized that finding inner peace, purpose and happiness will stick with you forever and that is real success.
Enjoying life's great changes makes a person more successful than a wealthy person who is not satisfied and takes everything for granted(把……当成理所当然). The summer before senior year, my attitude changed greatly. Instead of memorizing facts, I began learning information. Instead of focusing on the future, I focused on today and the successes that come with it.
I still make excellent grades, but now I spared weeks to studying instead of preparing for exams, and I think about the future with a deeper sense of meaning. Success, just like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder(旁观者). For me, being successful means truly living life each day, being thankful, and affecting the world.

B.Success can only be measured with a Porsche and a big house.
C.People should concentrate on today and success will follow afterwards.
D.The pursuit of inner peace, purpose and happiness is a real success.
【4】The fact that changed the writer’s attitude towards life was that _________.
A.he couldn’t afford a Porsche and a big house
B.some of his loved persons passed away
C.he wanted to enjoy his life’s great changes
D.it was too difficult for him to get good grades
【5】The purpose of the writer is probably to ________.
A.advise us to have a correct attitude towards success
B.inspire us to lead an active life each day
C.remind us to set a goal for our life
D.advise us to work hard to achieve our success

Many ordinary people ranging from volunteers to media workers have dedicated (奉献) themselves to fighting the novel coronavirus. They prove that ordinary people can still do their part during difficult times.
On Feb 12, Dalian (not his real name) was taking a train to Changsha, Hunan, for a business trip. While on the train, he went into a carriage (车厢) to have lunch and chose to remain in the carriage. He did not realize that the carriage was only for people heading to Wuhan.
Several hours later, when the train arrived in Wuhan, Dalian was asked to get off, as he was in the special carriage. Although he was surprised, he didn’t want to cause trouble and got off the carriage with just a single bag.
As Wuhan had been locked down because of the epidemic(流行病), Dalian couldn’t find a hotel to stay in. Feeling at a loss, he saw a notice online looking for volunteers to work in hospitals. The payment was 500 yuan a day. Dalian decided to give it a try. He soon became a volunteer at Wuhan No. 1 Hospital. He was responsible for taking out trash, mopping (拖) the floor, disinfecting (消毒) the hospital, dealing with used protective suits and bringing meals to patients.
The young man, reportedly from northeast China, had to work 12 hours every day, changing his protective suit three times a day. While working, he couldn’t drink anything or go to the bathroom. He also had to have close contact with infected patients, which is risky.
Dalian was afraid of getting infected at first. “When I entered the wards ( 病 房 ), I was kind of frozen and felt like I couldn’t move,” he said. But after seeing more patients get better, his fear gradually went away.

As you grow older, there will be certain events that will mark your growth. Graduating from high school and getting your first job are just a few of these. What are some other ways in which we mark our j【1】 towards adulthood?
In the US, getting your driver’s license at the age of 16 is seen as a major coming-of-age (成人) ritual (仪式). You may have seen kids c【2】 their first car in movies and TV shows. It is the first true t【3】 of independence for most teenagers. But not every teenager gets a car right away. U【4】, their parents will buy a second-hand car for them as their first car.
Another big coming-of-age event is the prom (毕业舞会). H【5】 at the end of the year, the prom is a graduation celebration for senior high school students. Teenagers wear fancy clothing, ask each other to dance and vote (投票) for a prom "king" and “queen". For many teenagers, prom is the biggest social event of the year. It's a time for them to dress and a【6】 like an adult.
And there's still more. At the age of 18, we can vote in the US and at 21, we can drink alcohol ( 酒 ).
This is also the time when most children m【7】 out of their parents' home for college or work. It is around this age that society starts to c【8】 us to be adults. But what does it really mean to be an adult?
Psychologist Jeffrey Arnett surveyed young adults and found three c【9】 adulthood goals: taking r【10】 for yourself, making independent decisions, and being financially (经济上) independent.
I agree with Arnett. Being an adult has more to do with one's maturity (成熟) If you want to drive, vote, drink, leave home or even start a romantic relationship, you have to make sure that you're ready to be responsible.
