“Well, what luck!” smiled the man. “ $ 1.11, the price of a miracle for your little brother.”

Do you always agree to do things that you are unwilling to do? Are you the type of person who always says "yes"? I've come to learn that it is very important to learn to say NO! It's okay. People are still going to like you. They may even respect you more because they know you are honest.
I'm not saying to say "no" to someone who really needs your help. I'm talking about refusing that meeting that you really do not want to attend or that birthday party that you don't want to be a guest at.
Think for a moment how you feel when you say YES to something that you really don't want to do. If you're like I once was,you can't sleep at night and you think about it too much. It weighs on your mind. You try to find ways out. Whatever you're saying to yourself,if you really wanted to go,you wouldn't have all of these thoughts.
So,why not just say NO from the beginning? Maybe you feel like if you don't show up at the meeting (by the way,it is not the one you must attend) your boss isn't going to like you or your co-workers won't respect you. Maybe you feel as if your mom,dad or sisters won't love you as much if you don't do everything for them that they ask every occasion.
If these people are your true friends, family members,or a good boss, they will like or love you the same no matter what. People treat you the way you teach them to, and if you're someone who always says "yes", then that's what they're expecting.
You need to do what is right for you. Of course we do have real obligations in life to fulfill, but we do not have to do everything others want us to do.
【1】Which of the following statements would the writer agree with?
A. We should try to do what our friends ask us to do.
B. We should help others in need.
C. Always saying "no" means you are brave.
D. Always saying "yes" means you are dishonest.
【2】What does the underlined word ' It" in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A. Saying "yes".
B. A friend's birthday party.
C. Something you're unwilling to do.
D. Something you think difficult to do.
【3】The writer believes that if you say "no" to your family members, you'll ______.
A. upset them
B. disappoint them
C. have a loose relationship with them
D. have the same relationship with them as before
【4】What would be the best title for the passage?
A. Learn to Make a Right Choice
B. To Be Yourself
C. Learn to Say No
D. Do What You Want to Do

On the third Sunday in June, Americans take time to recognize and thank a special person in the family--fathers! Father’s Day celebrates the importance of fathers, young and old and the men thought of as father figures.
The words “the child is father of the man” come from William Wordsworth’s poem My Heart Leaps Up. It means people’s personalities form when they are children. They will most likely have the same qualities as an adult that they had as a child.
Used in everyday speech, one could say, “In his case, the child was father of the man; he loved nature as a child and now works as a botanist(植物学家)”.
Let’s say you want to tell a child a story about something that happened long before they were born. You could say it happened when they “were just a twinkle in their father’s eyes.” This expression has a humorous and dreamy feel. Here, the word “twinkle” suggests the interest your father had in your mother.
When a much older man is interested in a much younger woman and supports her with his money, he is called her “sugar daddy.” The money part is very important-that’s the sugar.
Sometimes fathers are not a good influence or active in the lives of the children. In that case, a person may look for a father figure, a man who is not actually the person’s father but who acts like one.
The relationship between a man and his son can be complex. But the relationship between a father and daughter is often simpler. The expression “daddy’s little girl” is understood to mean that, in a father’s eyes, his daughter can do no wrong.
There is usually not a dry eye at any wedding during the traditional father-and-daughter dance, especially if they are dancing to a song like Michael Buble’s “Daddy’s Little Girl.”
【1】Which of the following expressions has a dreamy feel?
A.He is just a twinkle in his father’s eyes B.He is his sugar daddy
C.Like father, like son D.The child is father of the man
【2】What do you know about “the child is father of the man”?
A.A child is often spoiled by his father.
B.People’s characters are formed when young.
C.A boy will become a father when growing up.
D.A child always shows his true nature.
【3】According to the passage, the song Daddy’s Little Girl is likely to be ________.
A.moving B.frightening C.crazy D.funny
【4】The author writes the passage mainly to ________.
A.introduce the origin of Father’s Day B.show a boy should respect his father
C.explain the importance of fathers D.tell people several expressions about father

How to fight summer weight gain
When it comes to summer, most of us think of outdoor fun. So it seems like we should naturally lose weight over the summer—not gain it. In reality, though, summer isn’t all about beach volleyball and water sports. Lots of summer activities can work against our efforts to stay at a healthy weight.【1】
Get going with goals. When we don’t have a plan, it’s easy to spend summer moving from couch to computer, with regular stops at the fridge. 【2】 Just be sure to plan for some downtime so you can relax a little!
Stick to a schedule. With school out, we lose our daily routines. If you don’t have a specific job or activity to get up for, it’s easy to sleep late, watch too much TV, and snack more than usual.【3】For example, get up at the same time each day and eat meals at set times. Plan activities for specific times, like exercising before breakfast, for example. If you have time on your hands, offer to make dinner a couple of nights a week so your family can enjoy a sit-down meal together.
【4】Summer means picnics and barbecues — activities that revolve around an unlimited spread of food. Pace yourself. Don’t overload your plate. Avoid going back for seconds and thirds. Choose seasonal, healthy foods like fresh fruit instead of high-sugar, high-fat desserts. Appropriate summer eating sets you up on the right track!
Stay busy. 【5】 In addition to helping you avoid the cookie jar, filling your days with things to do can give you a sense of accomplishment. That’s especially true if a dream summer job or planned activity fell through. Limit your screen time — including TV, computer, and video games — to no more than 2 hours a day.
A.Plan more activities.
B.Think about what and how you eat.
C.Make sure your summer days have some routines.
D.Most of us, however, don’t take summer weight gain seriously.
E.When we’re bored, it’s easy to fall into a trap of doing nothing.
F.The good news is that we can avoid problems if we know what to do.
G.Avoid this by setting a specific goal, like volunteering or mastering a new skill.

In the far away land, there was a beautiful kingdom with its unique rule. The rule said, everyone may become the king, with all of his rights to govern the country for five years. After that he must be caught, his body will be tied and he will be thrown away to a remote island where the jungle is thick and there are plenty of wild animals and no human.
Then, one by one, people became the king. The first man said, ‘‘Ok, I'm ready to be the king." And he became a king for five years. What he did in his five years was enjoying his position. He threw big parties, went to many beautiful places, married many women, collected many luxurious things and did other things that pleased himself Those were all he did and he never prepared anything for his future. Until one day the time came. One morning when the king woke up, suddenly strong soldiers came to his palace and said, " We came here under the order of constitution. Now it's time for you to be thrown away to the remote island." The king wasn't surprised but he felt that time passed by too fast. He had enjoyed himself in the past five years but now he had to accept his destiny with tears in his eyes. The soldiers sent him to the dangerous island and left. All they heard was the voices of the wild animals and the long scream of the former king; and then silent again.
Every other king was the same until a young man came and declare his wish. By the constitution he was granted his wish. He would be a hug for five years before being thrown away to the island. But if other kings would follow their passion for having fun, he didn't. The king was always seen to be thinking.
Paragraph 1
And not very long after that, he made a surprising decision. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2
Finally the time came when the king had to be thrown away to the island. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
