At my primary school, I was one of the smartest kids there. I never studied, but always got perfect scores. I thought I was born clever. At least I believed so. I was also a prodigy in music according to myself. I could sing better than almost everyone else in my school. I was pretty sure that once I got to seventh grade, everyone would be surprised by me.
But actually they weren't.
When I arrived at my new class, I couldn't wait to show everyone what I could do. However, there was always someone else who could do better than me. My grades began to get worse, I needed to actually study for my tests. I believed I wasn't smart. I believed I wasn't talented. I believed I was a failure.
Over the next two years. I had to work very hard. Every prize for the singing competition was given to me for hard work and effort. Grades was still very low but improving little by little. I worked really hard. However, I was never the best at everything.
I haven't realized until recently that I really don't have to be the best at everything. I was too hard on myself. In fact, when I did badly in a test, my classmates never laughed at me.
No one is perfect. There will probably always be someone better than me at something. Anyway, there are about seven billion people in this world. I will never be the number one at everything, and that's really okay.

I’m working on my Happiness Project, and you could have one, too! Everyone’s project will look different, but most of us can get help from it. Join in—no need to catch up, just jump in right now.
Everyone knows that one of the most useful ways to deal with negative (消极的) feelings is to lighten up. If you’re sad, try to find a reason to laugh. If you’re angry, joke around. Easier said than done, however.
On our flight to Kansas City for a holiday, my daughter lost her “functional appliance (功能性矫治器) ” . We got back home a week later, and my husband didn’t call to an appointment (预约) with the dentist. Days went by. I reminded him from time to time, but nothing happened. Whenever I thought about this, I became very angry.
Then I thought, “Make a joke of it.” So I went over, put my arms around my husband, and said nicely, “If you don’t call the dentist tomorrow, I’ll be angry.” I laughed while I said that. “I know, I know!” he said. “I’ll do it right now.” And today he made the appointment.
I’m not sure if making a joke of it was more effective (有效的) than getting angry, but I don’t think it was less effective. I was happier about it, and so was my husband.
I used the same strategy on myself last weekend. I had a lot of boring tasks to deal with. Just making a joke on myself made it easier to solve them.
Of course, my jokes weren’t funny at all. But just the try to take a humorous attitude (态度) made a huge difference.
It’s easy to say “make a joke of it”, but it’s hard to do when you’re feeling angry, scared, bored, or upset. Have you found a way to get yourself to make a joke?
【1】What does the writer ask readers to do in the first paragraph?
A.To join in Happiness Project. B.To start a project with her.
C.To catch up with her project. D.To learn knowledge from her.
【2】Why did the writer become very angry at first?
A.Because her daughter lost her “functional appliance” on the plane.
B.Because her husband turned a deaf ear to her asking to call the dentist.
C.Because her husband didn’t get on well with her any longer after returning.
D.Because her daughter herself forgot to make an appointment with the dentist.
【3】Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?
A.The writer changed her husband by changing herself first.
B.The writer used the strategy “make a joke of it” on herself.
C.Taking a humorous attitude makes a big difference in life.
D.Telling jokes is the main part of the writer’s Happiness Project.
【4】What is the writer’s advice for teenagers?
A.Look for a Happiness Project B.Find a reason to laugh
C.Find a way to happiness D.Make a joke of it

The Silk Road is the name of different roads that long ago connected Europe, Africa and Asia. People reached these different places along these roads. Scientists believe people began to travel the Silk Road about 3, 000 years ago. By the time the Chinese silk trade became important in the world, the Silk Road covered almost 6,500 kilometers. It spread from Rome to China, which is from the West to the Far East.
Traders traveling along the Silk Road carried silk of course. They also carried and traded spices (香料), cloth, valuable stones and gold.
There is a famous old story along the old road. It is said that Roman soldiers (士兵) traveled through central Asia. They started to live somewhere near the ancient Chinese village of Liqian. Some of these Romans married local Chinese women and the story of blue-eyed villages of China was started.
During its busiest period, the Silk Road allowed people from many different cultures and countries to meet each other and mix. The Silk Road allowed the sharing of valuable goods and new ideas. These included people and trading goods from the Mediterranean, Persian, Magyar, Armenian, Baetrian, Indian and Chinese areas. All these people traveled the Silk Road, and they shared goods, stories, languages and culture.
In modern times, the old Silk Road routes(路线) are still used, but now they are crossed by trains instead of camels and horses. There is even a Silk Route Museum in Jiuquan in China.
