Harvard Student Organization Centre at Hills（SOCH） Digital Media Academy（DMA）summer camps at Harvard SOCH focus on a great chance for students aged 6 to 17 to spend time at one of the best universities in the country. Kids and teens can learn to build an app, program a robot, or explore the world of music production in beautiful classrooms surrounded by the Harvard University grounds. Especially, we stress our STEM courses that will also help students learn teamwork, create and solve problems. Most parents are horrified the first time they catch their kid out in a lie. Just how worried should you be if your little one has started lying, and how can you encourage them to tell the truth? According to child and teen psychiatrist Gayani DeSilva, MD, lying can actually be a sign of healthy development in young children. “Kids lie for many reasons, and much of it is normal.” DeSilva says. “People are not born with the tools of interacting with others and getting their needs met. They must learn how to communicate those needs in appropriate ways, and they’ll experiment with different communication techniques until they find the ones that work best for them. Lying is one of those techniques.” For instance, at age two or three, kids may lie as they experiment with pushing limits to see what behaviors are acceptable and what aren’t. As kids get older, they become more aware of how their actions affect others. Many lie less frequently because they know it could hurt someone else’s feelings or trust. Teens were most likely to consider lying an acceptable behavior if it was to help somebody or keep a personal secret, but not if it was likely to cause harm to somebody. Just because lying is, in most cases, normal, doesn’t mean it should be ignored. If you know your child is lying, what should you do? When a child lies, look at them directly and ask, “What do you need?” After they tell you, gently remind them that telling you directly will be more effective than lying. Also, it’s a good idea to model the behavior you want to see in your kids. In other words, don’t lie to your children. This will set you and your children on a course of open communication, trust, and satisfaction that needs and wants are understood and met. Generally, a child who is neglected will lie more than a child who has attentive and responsive parents. Girl with a Pearl Earring has been part of the Mauritshuis’ collection in the Hague since 1902 and is still on display at the museum. Rumours (谣言) have surrounded Johannes Vermeer’s work ever since it was rediscovered in the late 19th century, and this painting still continues to generate interest, debate and imagination. Although Vermeer was among the most successful artists working in Delft during the 17th century, he was almost completely forgotten after his death in 1675. Even during his lifetime, Vermeer’s influence was mainly limited to Delft where he earned a reasonable living as a painter and art dealer. What’s more, Vermeer’s name is rarely mentioned in historical records and he left behind barely any other documents about his career or personal history. Very little is known about Girl with a Pearl Earring. However, art historians have decided several important facts about the painting. Recent research suggests that the black, negative space behind Vermeer’s model was originally painted dark green. Much like other artists of his time, Vermeer enjoyed painting figures dressed in Middle Eastern clothes. As his model is dressed in a turban (女用头巾), many art historians argue that the Vermeer’s painting shouldn’t De considered as a portrait(肖像画)at all. Instead, most scholars agree that Girl with a Pearl Earring belongs to a kind of painting called Tronie that began in the Low Countries around Vermeer’s time. This type of artwork often portrays (描绘) characters rather than actual people. It portrays a certain type of character; in this case a girl in fanciful cress, wearing an oriental turban and an improbably large pearl in her ear.
