Drugs(药物)come in different ways. However, can you imagine that drugs come in chicken eggs? A team of scientists from England say that it can come true. They have developed special chickens that lay eggs with drugs inside. These special drugs can help with some kinds of illnesses. Until now, they have made two kinds of drugs. One drug can deal with skin problems and the other can deal with a nerve disease(神经性疾病).
Certain drugs are produced by the special chickens inside their egg whites. These drugs are made of proteins which can be found in animals’ skin, hair, milk and meat. The scientists also use DNA technology to make sure that the drugs are only inside the egg whites. In this way, the chickens can stay healthy.
Besides egg whites, drugs made of proteins come in milk of cows and sheep. Compared with cows and sheep, the special chickens have ascendancy over them. First, they are cheaper to raise. Second, they need less room and grow faster.
These special chickens can pass on their drug-producing ability. So far, five generations of the special chickens have appeared. But scientists may need more time to make the drugs perfect. It’s said that scientists will realize their dream in five to ten years.

In the past, Chinese buyers liked foreign brands better, thinking that products made by American or European companies are of higher quality than Chinese ones. But now that’s no longer the case.
“Chinese people born before 1985 generally think that foreign brands are better than Chinese ones, billionaire William Li told Business Insider during a recent interview on CCTV 9. But for those who were born after 1985, it is a different picture.
“When I first went to the United Kingdom in 1997, I thought that the difference between China and Europe was quite big, Li said. “But for those born in the 1990s, when they visit Europe or the US, they do not think there is a big difference.”
The change in thinking among Chinese buyers is showing up in many markets in China where western companies controlled before. A study by Credit Suisse which came out in March found that more and more young Chinese buyers are showing a home brand bias.
More than 90% of young Chinese buyers would prefer to buy home brands, according to the study. At the same time, home companies producing food, drinks, or personal care products raised their share(份额) of the market by 33% over the last ten years to nearly 70%.
“Chinese buyers, especially the younger ones, don’t just believe that foreign brands are better. Right now, Chinese buyers think China is good and ‘Made in China’ is not bad at all, Charlie Chen, head of China buyer research at Credit Suisse, told South China Morning Post in March.
The Chinese smartphone market is controlled by home companies Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi. Apple is the only foreign brand in the top five, but it has lost large ground to the home brands in recent years. Its market share is believed to go down to 37% from a 2015 high of 54%.
【1】Which of the following is true according to the text?
A. More and more foreigners go to buy Chinese products.
B. Older Chinese people don’t like foreign products any more.
C. More and more Chinese buyers prefer Chinese products.
D. Huawei is the top one in the smartphone market.
【2】Which fact best explains home brand bias?
A. Apple had a market share of 54% in 2015.
B. More than 90% of young Chinese buyers prefer home brands.
C. Chinese people born before 1985 think that Chinese brands aren’t as good as foreign ones.
D. American or European brands are of higher quality
【3】Who did most of the research for this report?
A. Credit Suisse.
B. CCTV 9.

B. Young Chinese are crazy for foreign brands.

As a child, I was really afraid of the dark and getting lost. These fears were very real and caused me some 【1】moments.
Maybe it was the strange way that things looked and sounded in my own room at night that scared me so much. It was never【2】 dark in my bedroom, but always a streetlight or passing car lights, which made clothes on the back of a chair look like some shape of a wild animal. Out of the corner of my eye, the curtains seemed 【3】 all the time though there was no wind. A very low sound in the floor at night would seem a hundred times 【4】than in the day. My 【5】would run wild, and my heart would beat fast. I would lie very still so that the “enemy” would not discover me.
Another of my childhood fears was that I would get lost,【6】 on the way home from school. Every morning I got on the school bus right near my home. That was no problem. After school, though, when all the buses were lined up along the street, I was afraid that I would get on the wrong one and 【7】to some other strange places. Many countries around the world have National Parks. There are about 7, 000 National Parks around the world. Most of them protect natural settings as well as the plants and animals that live there, but a few are in towns and cities.
Are National Parks in England the same as those in other countries?
Many National Parks around the world are huge in area but without any people, but in England most of the countryside within them is useful for farming and other activities. As a result, National Parks in England include places where people live and work, as well as wild and beautiful areas where there is a sign of human life.
Why do visitors go to the National Parks?
There are plenty of activities to do in all of the National Parks in England. Visitors can walk or cycle, following marked route, and many of the parks organize activities for families.
Are there any problems in the National Parks?
There are about 110 million visitors to the parks every year, bringing many benefits(好处) to the areas but causing problems too. Many popular towns and villages can be filled with visitors. This results in overcrowded car parks and roads blocked with traffic. Life can be difficult for people who live there, as more and more gift shops and cafes are opened instead of those everyday shops; in popular areas, house prices can become too high for local people to afford, which makes it hard for them to stay in the area.
Another major problem is litter. In the parks it is a particular danger to animals. Broken glass can also cause fires by focusing the rays of the sun. When these start in wild places, they are much harder to control and can damage large areas very quickly.
How can people help?
All National Parks in England promote (倡导) the Countryside Code, which tells people how to take care of their environment. If these rules are followed, the National Parks will be protected and continue to give pleasure to many people for a long time. And of course people who are against the rules must be fined.

Could getting a good night’s sleep avoid putting on weight for children?
According to a new study, putting preschoolers in bed by 8 P.M. could reduce their chances of becoming overweight later in life by half. Preschoolers are children around the age of 4 or 5.
The researchers from Ohio State University wrote their findings in the Journal of Pediatrics. They have found that young children who go to bed after 9 P.M. are twice as likely to be obese later in life. The lead author of the study is Sarah Anderson. She says that it’s very important for parents to create a bedtime routine for their children.
How was the research conducted? Researchers chose 977 children for it. These children are part of a larger project called the Study of Early Child Care and Youth Development. The project follows healthy babies born in 1991 in ten U.S. cities. In order to have a clearer picture of the results, researchers then divided the children into three groups:
*those who went to bed by 8 P.M. or earlier;
*those who went to bed between 8 P.M. and 9 P.M.;
*those whose bedtimes were after 9 P.M.
When these children turned 15 years old, the researchers looked at the results of the study. Of those with the earliest bedtimes, only one out of ten was obese. Of those who went to bed between 8 and 9 at night. 16 percent of the children became obese. And out of those with the latest bedtimes, 23 percent of the children became obese.
“Having a usual bedtime routine can lower children’s risk of becoming overweight. Besides, as usual, early bedtime is also likely to have positive effects on behavior and social development,” said Professor Anderson.
