The Web as a Way of Life
If you ask people today why they use mobile phones to communicate with their friends or why they turn to TV for entertainment they will look at you as if you are crazy. These things have become such an integral part of life that they are no longer noticed, let alone remarked on.
In the same way, within a decade no one will notice the web. it will be just there. It will be a way of life. People will use it for shopping, education, entertainment and communication. They will invent new uses for it.
A change like this is generational. Old people have to learn something about new things outside their everyday life, while kids who grow up with a new technology simply treat it as given.
In the future, everyone’s business card will have an email address. Every lawyer, every doctor and every business-from large to small-will be connected. On the other hand, the variety of activities on the web will be broadening at an amazing rate. You can find all kinds of interesting materials on the web.
Many sites will have a huge traffic flow. People will trade the time they now spend reading the paper or watching TV for time spent surfing the web. Americans, particularly young Americans, will spend less time in front of the TV, and more on the web.
We usually overestimate what we can do in two years and underestimate what we can do in ten. The web will be as much a way of life as the car by 2008 and probably before.

When Michael Phelps announced his retirement at the 2016 Rio Olympics he really had no intention of swimming competitively again. However, that changed when he approached the Discovery Channel to help kick off Shark Week with a race against one of the world’s fastest and most efficient shark-a great white!
On Sunday, July 23 at 7:00 p. m., over five million viewers tuned in to watch the competition. While television viewers saw the competitors swimming side by side, in reality, Phelps raced by himself in the cold Allantic waters off of Cape Town, South Africa. The Discovery Channel film crew then inserted his computer-made competitor simulating (模拟) a real shark’s speed, which was estimated by attracting a great white with a fake seal over the same 100-meter stretch of the Allantic.
Though Phelps managed to complete the distance in an impressive 38.1 seconds, 9.41 seconds faster than his personal best of 47.51 seconds, he was no match for the great shark, which clocked 56. I seconds. Like a true champion, the fish celebrated the victory by leaping out of the water. Phelps, meanwhile, took the loss in good humor, saying: “Remaleh? Nexttime ...warmer water.”
The swimmer later said/4Honestly, the first thought that went through my head when I saw the shark, is that there’s probably very little chance for me to beat him.
While some fans were disappointed that Phelps did not race a live shark in the ocean, organizing that would have been dangerous for the swimmer. Besides, Discovery Channel’s aim in organizing the competition was to cause excitement and interest in sharks. Most parents fear getting letters home from their children’s school. They are usually informing them that their child is in big trouble. But ahead of the SATs exams next week, one school decided to send a letter of a different type.
Bosses at Buckton Vale Primary School in Stalybridge sent letter to all pupils in the sixth grade to tell them how specisl and unique they are. The letter highlights all the natural skills and abilities the pupils have and everything that makes them “smart” individuals.
They are told how their laughter can brighten the darkest day and that the examiners do not know the pupils are kind, trustworthy and thoughtful.
The letter, signed by the headmaster and two other teachers, has been put on the school’s Facebook page and shared more than 9,000 times with more than 7,000 likes.
The letter reads, “Next week you will sit your SATs tests for maths, reading, spelling, grammar and punctuation, We know how hard you have worked, but there is something very important you must know. The SATs test does not assess all that makes each of you special and unique.
