I have worked as a language assistant(助理) in Spain for a month. When I enjoy 1 myself and talking about British culture, I notice that many Spanish friends think that the UK has only one place 2 —London!

Of course, London is worth visiting. 3, I think foreign visitors should really visit the UK a bit 4! As a British, I want to let more people know 5 my country. So I often tell people that there are 6 other beautiful places in my country. 7, my hometown—Chester. Actually, it is not famous, so 8 people have heard of this city. Therefore, I often introduce its location(位置) to others by 9 it is near Manchester.

In fact, Chester is really 10 beautiful and safe city. There are city walls protecting the city centre. As one of Britain's most famous cultural heritage(遗产) protection 11 , it keeps most of the buildings that were built 12. It means that most of the houses and shops are very old. For this reason, Chester is a popular place for those who are 13 in historical sites.

It's a pity that most Spanish people who have visited the UK stayed in London and didn't go to 14 cities. I hope that if you 15 the chance to visit my country, you might want to travel outside of our capital.

Have you ever learned to do something with the help of an Internet search? The answer is likely "Yes"! In fact, you probably learned many things by watching how-to videos.

You may be wondering how such videos can improve your English. Recording yourself, whether on video or audio (音频), is an effective method of self-study. This is especially true if you cannot find someone to practice speaking with. When you record yourself, it helps you identify what you are good at in English and which areas need improvement. As you continue the method of speaking on a recording, you can make the changes you want.

Now, let's go through the steps in preparing to make your video.

Choose a subject

The first step is to choose a subject that will work well for a short video. Set a goal of not going over six or seven minutes for the video length.

Gather information

Make a list of the steps that you think are important in making or doing the thing you have chosen. You might not know the English words for some of the things you are describing. For those, you can write the words in your own language and then take time to find and practice saying them in English.

Aim for simple instructions

How-to videos are meant to make instructions easy and clear. Taking notes can help organize your steps and decide which to include. Think about which ones to show visually and which ones to be described.

Introduce your subject

A great way to introduce it is to say your name and then say what you are going to show. You can even include a sentence or two about why your skill is good to learn.

  1. (1) What's the main idea of the second paragraph?
    A . Why you should make how-to videos. B . How to make how-to videos. C . When to make how-to videos. D . What to make how-to videos.
  2. (2) How many steps in preparing to make how-to videos are mentioned?
    A . Three. B . Four. C . Five. D . Six.
  3. (3) What's the best title for the passage?
A . Improve your speaking by making how-to videos. B . Search the Internet for videos in English. C . Choose right videos in English to improve your speaking. D . An effective method to study yourself.

If you look at the top of your phone, you'll usually see a small symbol that shows 3G or 4G. The "G" means the "generation(代)" of your mobile network. But they will become history after 5G network fully arrives.

In recent years, China makes great achievement in 5G network. Now it's making efforts to popularize the business use of 5G. Shanghai is the first city in China to start testing 5G networks. On March 30, 2019, Wu Qing, one of the leaders of Shanghai, made the first 5G video call with Huawei Mate Smartphone.

5G allows people download and upload data faster than ever before. It is 100 times faster than 4G mobile network. But 5G doesn't just bring faster mobile Internet. People can use it for many other things as well. For example, 5G can make self-driving cars safer.

Today's self-driving cars have one problem—time lag(滞后). When a self-driving car "sees" an obstacle(障碍物), it sends this information to data center and receives instructions. However, it takes time to do that. That's the time lag. With this kind of lag, the car might have an accident because it doesn't receive instructions in time. But with 5G, the self-driving car can receive instructions more quickly.

5G can also be used to power the Internet of Things (IoT). This refers to a large online network that connects all things and people. Fast Internet speeds will be the key to developing this technology. For example, with IoT, your smart fridge could order eggs online when it notices that there are no eggs left inside.

  1. (1) What is true about 5G?
A . 5G can only make mobile Internet faster.  B . The first city in China to do 5G test is Shanghai. C . 5G network has been fully used in China.  D . 5G network is 10 times faster than 3G network.
  2. (2) Why does the writer use self-driving cars as an example?
A . To explain how self-driving cars work. B . To show us how important self-driving cars are. C . To tell about the possible dangers of self-driving cars. D . To explain how 5G's fast speed can be helpful.
  3. (3) What can we learn from the passage?
A . China supports the development of 5G network. B . There are no differences between 3G and 4G. C . There will be no car accidents. D . The 5G network can control fridges, TVs and other appliances.
  4. (4) Where can you probably read this article?
    A . In a science magazine. B . In a historical novel. C . In a fashion magazine. D . In a story book.
