    Joe Read studied in this school for four years. When he finished school, he was already eighteen years old. And then his father said to him, “You finished school, and you are a good student. Too often, we spend so much time thinking about the future — for example, getting into college or getting a good job — that we fail to enjoy the present. People who have several close friends often live happier and healthier lives.

    Another secret to live a happy life is to be active, and have hobbies where you forget your problems and time. Many people experience dancing, or playing a sport, such as swimming. You can forget about your problems, and only think about the activity.

    Finally, many people find happiness in helping others. Studies show that people feel good when they spend their time helping others. If you want to feel happier, do good things for someone. You can help a friend with his or her studies, go shopping to buy food for an elderly person, or simply help out around the house by washing the dishes.

    In almost every big university in the United States, football is a favorite sport. American football is different. Players sometimes kick the ball, but they also throw the ball and run with it. They try to take it to the other end of the field. They have four chances to move the ball ten yards（码）. They can carry it or they can throw it. If they move the ball ten yards, they can try to move it another ten yards. If they move it to the end of the field, they receive six points.

    It is difficult to move the ball. Eleven men on the other team try to stop the man with the ball. If he does not move the ball ten yards, his team kicks the ball the other team.

    Each university wants its own team to win. Many thousands of people come to watch. They all shout for their favorite team.

    Young men and women come on the field to help the people shout more. They dance and jump while they shout.

    Each team plays ten or eleven games each season. The season begins in September and ends in November. If a team is very good, it may play another game after the season ends. The best teams play again on January 1, the first day of the New Year. Many people go to see these games and many others watch them on TV.

    It was the day of the big match a the city's best school team. Our couch said we could win, but it would be (困难) .We warmed up b the match, but we did not speak very much. It was very important for us to (打败) the other team.

    In the early part of the match, everything went badly. We made some m , and we were not careful e with the ball. At half time the coach told us,” You are faster than them, and you have got a good (机会) .Try your best and you will win.” In the (二) half ,we heard our fans c, and it made us try even harder. In the end, we (得分) and we won the match.

    You're not alone. CCTV-10 started a show （call）Chinese Character Dictation Com-petition (《中国汉字听写大会》) last year. On the show, only three out of 10 adults (correct) wrote bingjiling (ice cream 冰激凌), and no one could  out penti (sneeze喷嚏). According to a survey, 94.1% of people said they had memory lapses (差错)  when writing some characters.

    It seems that Chinese characters are in Since the digital(数码) age began, fewer and fewer people use pens and paper. Most people now write Chinese on keyboards using pinyin. As  result, many people would forget the features特征 of a Chinese character, such as its structure and ( mean ) easily.

    Chinese characters are one of the world's ( old)written languages, dating back (追溯到) to 1100 BC. It's not only a way for us to record things, it's important to pass on Chinese culture. example, the character nan (male男) is made up of two parts , tian (farmland田) and li (strength力). We can tell from it that in the old times Chinese men were in charge of (负责) working on the farmland.
