Who is your favorite star in the world? For me, I like Yuan Longping best.

Yuan Longping is one of the greatest scientists in the world. He was born1 a poor family in 1930. He studied hard and2good at swimming in senior high school. He finished his university in 1953. After that, Yuan began to work as a teacher at a farm school in Anjiang. In the 1960s, many people died 3 they didn't have enough food to eat.

"4can I help people out of hunger?" he thought. So he decided5to grow rice. In 1973, he successfully grew a new kind of rice called hybrid rice(杂交水稻). Hybrid rice is6strong plant. It 7make 20% more rice than any other rice.

Today, half of China's rice plants are Yuan's special hybrid rice. Yuan is called the" Father of Hybrid Rice". Unluckily, 8 May 22nd 2021, this91-year-old man died. 9 bad news it was! Yuan Longping's work for the Chinese people made him a hero in China. We Chinese people. 10him forever.

Mr. Smith is a very kind farmer. He lives in a small town in America. He loves1very much. And he keeps many animals on his farm, such as dogs, cats, ducks and so on. He has a horse and it works2for him on the farm every day. Mr. Smith is good to it. He often 3 it green grass to cat.

One morning, Mr. Smith's neighbour (邻居) Peter came to Mr. Smith's home." Excuse me, could I borrow your horse? I want it to4something to the city." Peter is very lazy (懒惰). He doesn't5 all day. He always borrows things from others and6gives them back. How bad he is!

So Mr. Smith says," I'm sorry that I can't lend my horse to you. He is7 today." "Is that true? Let me8 it."

Mr. Smith had to take him to the horse. To Peter's surprise, the clever horse was  9on the ground. And it seemed (似乎) that the horse was so10 that it couldn't stand up. Peter had nothing to say, so he left.

When you go to the US, someone often says to you "give me five". What should you do? Do not get five dollars from your pocket! It will make them laugh! They are not asking for your money, but your fingers.

In the US," give me five" or" give me the high five" is a popular gesture(手势). You can see it often in films or on TV. It means hitting each other's right hands together.

People do it when they meet for the first time or something happy happens. For example, a student has good marks in exams. If a football team wins a game, the players will give high fives to everyone around to celebrate.

This gesture may come from the old Roman gesture of raising (举起) the right arm for the emperor (皇帝). This showed the person raising his arm did not have a sword (剑) in his hand. But now it turns into a very funny way to show everyone's good feeling.

Why not try to give the high five to your friends?

This is the story of two frogs (青蛙). One frog was fat and the other was . One day, while searching for food, they carelessly jumped into a vat(大桶)of . They couldn't get out, as the sides were too slippery(滑的), so they were just swimming around.

The fat frog said to the thin frog," Brother frog, there's no use swimming.

We're just going to die, we might as well give up (放弃)." The thin frog said," Hold on, Brother. Keep (坚持) swimming. Someone will get us ." And they went on swimming.

a few hours, the fat frog said," Brother frog, there is no use. I'm becoming very now. I am just going to stop swimming and die. It's and nobody is working today. No one will help . There's no possible way out of here." But the thin frog said," Keep trying. Keep swimming."

Two hours passed. The fat frog said," I can't go on any longer. There is no use swimming." The fat frog stopped. He gave up and in the milk. But the thin frog kept swimming.

Ten minutes later, the thin frog felt something solid (固体的) under his feet. He turned the milk into butter (黄油) jumped out of the vat. He saved himself.

Last summer vacation, I went to Lhasa. I went there by train with my mother.

We lived in Chengdu. It was very far from Lhasa. We wanted to go thereby plane before. But we heard the scenery was beautiful along the way. So we chose (选择) to take the train. It would take us two days.

We got to the train station early in the morning. The train didn't come, we waited at the hall. There were a lot of people waiting for the train. Some people talked with each other. Others sat on the chairs.

Fifteen minutes later, the train arrived. Luckily, we had seats near the window. There were many people from different places on the train. Some people were friendly but some were not. A funny boy sat next to me. We talked a lot and had a good time.

After the train started, I looked out of the window. Everything was green. It looked nice. I really enjoyed the beautiful natural scenery along the road.

The trip to Lhasa took much time, but I enjoyed it a lot. It was really a different trip for me.
