 Teaching Positions in Institute for Artificial Intelligence at Baking University 

 Announced and set up in 2019, the Institute for Artificial Intelligence at Peking University (abbreviated as PKU-IAI) serves as a backbone to connect all AI related research and applying activities in Peking University. The PKU-IAI aims to make both a big leap into the future, and a natural next step for an institution that has been at the forefront of artificial intelligence from the start. The PKU-IAI also aims to enable Peking University to play the role of a worldwide leader in the responsible and ethical evolution of technologies that are ready to transform society.

 Requirements 

 1 The applicants should have a solid background and produced influential research results or development experiences in the mentioned fields of artificial intelligence. 

 2 The applicants are expected to be under the age of 40, and obtain a Ph. D. from well-known universities within recent 5 years and have outstanding research and development records.

 The university and the research group provide competitive salary and working conditions for successful applicants.

 Americans are now allowed to get a COVID-19 vaccine (疫苗). But the process in America is not going as smoothly as some had hoped. Many people are still facing a wait for their first shot. Moreover, the vaccines aren't available to kids under 16 yet. That's because scientists have only tested if the vaccine works in adults. 

 The good news is that there are two companies, Moderna and Pfizer, making COVID-19 vaccines. They are now running clinical trials (临床实验)to test their vaccines in teens and kids. Volunteers are given a treatment plan and then evaluated after. 

 Clinical trials are designed with safety in mind and usually done in adults first. They work like this: volunteers get placed into one of two groups. One group receives the vaccine. The other group gets a placebo. This is a shot given in the same way as the vaccine but with no effect. Scientists can compare the effects of the real vaccine against the placebo to see if the vaccine works. Researchers want to know everything that a person experiences when they get the shot, so they can detect any harmful effects. If anything did happen, the trial would stop immediately. 

 Some teens are eager to volunteer because they want to help people. Maybe you're the right age to be part of a clinical trial for the COVID-19 vaccine. Why not volunteer For A Vaccine Trial? Interested kids should read about the trials because every trial has risks. They should talk to their doctor and weigh the benefits and risks. Every vaccine has rare side effects in a few patients.

 Mikah Frye, a 9-year-old boy, was walking down the streets with his grandmother discussing Christmas gifts when he saw some homeless people struggling to stay warm in the cold night. Then he was thinking about a way to help the homeless to spend a warm Christmas. 

 That thought stayed in Mikah Frye's mind and when he reached home, Mikah informed his parents not to buy the Microsoft XBox gaming device he had asked for earlier. Mikah realized that by not buying the $300 device, he could instead donate over 30 blankets to the homeless. He knew how much it meant to be warm in the cold holiday season. 

 Three years ago, Mikah and his parents were the ones living in a homeless shelter. Having suffered a financial crisis, they too had lost their house, not knowing where their next meal would come from and sharing a blanket every night. Mikah was six years old then but he remembered what it was like to have to give back that precious blanket every morning.  

 Reaching out to the emergency shelter programme that looked after them 3 years ago, the family donated 60 blankets in the end, each with a personalized message of hope in Mikah's handwriting stating: "They gave me a blanket, but I had to leave it. That's why I want you to have your own blanket. Today, I live in my own house, and someday you will too. Your friend, Mikah." 

 The homeless people at the shelter may not have been able to give Mikah a Christmas gift in return but his gesture was noted by the billion dollar company Microsoft who made sure that Mikah was fooled into visiting their store so that Santa Claus could personally deliver an XBox from the company to him as a reward for making the top of "Santa's list of nice boys" that year. 

 The earth is dying before us, yet we sit and watch. If the TV or the game system breaks, we run off to the stores to get it fixed immediately no matter what the cost. Why aren't we willing to fix our earth? Are our televisions and game systems more important to us than where we live? Where shall we continue to live, until the end of time? 

 The earth is our home and cannot be replaced. We must take care of it. We have come up with so much technology that limits us instead of helping us. Take that game system we run to repair. What does it do? It occupies kids' time! The earth has already given kids plenty of entertainment in the forms of fields and hills, forests and plains, water and land. However, instead of using what the earth has given us, and helping kids by giving them exercise as they run around, we decide to ruin kids' minds with game systems that glue them to the screen for hours, and make them ignore their homework and chores. We have polluted this earth by making these things which do not even help in any way! 

 We have already messed up this world, we have ruined the air, water, and animals that it has so willingly provided for us. We need to stop this destruction of life and bring back the world we had before. It will not be easy, but everybody can help! What about something as simple as turning the lights off when you leave a room? Recycling what can be recycled? Picking up litter? Donating money to an environmental organization? None of these things are very hard. We can't just always say, "Oh, the earth is a mess. Ah, well, those big companies that are polluting so much can stop and fix it." Instead, we need to help out. It's not only those big companies; it's everyday things that we do too that are ruining the earth. So, stop and think about what you can do to make a difference to our world! 

 Taking care of a sick loved one can put stress on your health. When taking care of the other person, you may ignore your own physical needs. You may find that your own health is failing. If you fall ill, you won't be able to help.  

 Eat well. When things seem out of control, you may have no time to focus on good eating habits.  Both of those put stress on you. Try to eat as healthily as you can, even if sometimes you have to rely on simple meals like salads. 

 Try to get enough sleep. Sleep can also be difficult when you're caring for a loved one. You may be too worried to sleep at times, or the task may interrupt your sleep.  Therefore, try to get as much as you can. 

 Take time to exercise. Exercising will also help you keep healthy while you're caring for a loved one. Exercise can reduce your stress level.  So you'll need to find ways to work it into your schedule. You can take a short walk a couple of times a day or do yoga at home. 

  It can be easy to overlook (忽视) the health problems in yourself when you're caring for someone else. If you fall ill, that does not do anyone any good. So it's best to make sure you're in good health. 

 A. Don't ignore signs of illness in yourself. 

 B. Therefore, it's important to take care of yourself. 

 C. You may not eat much, or you may end up eating junk food. 

 D. Not getting enough sleep can make you less effective in the task. 

 E. However, it can be difficult when you are taking care of a loved one. 

 F. The best plan is to visit a doctor regularly to make sure you're in good health. 

 G. Don't be afraid to ask for help when you're ill, as that can help take some of burden off you. 

 I was touched, so much. A while back, my three-year-old son and I settled back for his goodnight 1 . We lay down in his little bed and he said, "Daddy, when I get big can I live with you?" I 2  him he could live with me any time he wanted to. 

 A moment later he said, "When you die you're going to feel 3  on your face and it will be me touching you." Then he promised, "I will kiss you." He moved over, kissing me. I was 4  of tears suddenly welling up in my eyes. I didn't want to explain why I was crying; as I opened my eyes to look at him, he was already 5  

 I spent some time looking at him, 6  the minute and wondering about the depth of the feeling I'd had. It 7  to me that I didn't remember having much of this kind of gentle time with my father, and that this was a time that would be 8  short-lived. This time of 9  that forms a three-year-old's life, would soon be gone. What will 10 , however, will be the scene of this short while reoccurring in my mind non-stop. It made all of the difficult 11  of being a father worthwhile. 

 Sometimes, being a committed father can feel like you're 12  the doorkeeper, driver, and cleaner in the house. Then you will have "a 13 ", one like this when your child expresses absolute, pure, and 14  love for you. 

 When your kids have left home and you look back at these years, all of these will be strung together to 15  the memories of their lives with you. 

 According to a recent survey, violence exists in schools in a great many (variety). Students show their fear, and parents and teachers also express their great concern about it. Experts hope the whole society pay  (much) attention to the mental health of adolescents. 

 Nowadays, school violence is  hot issue. I think this is a common phenomenon,  calls for our great concern. We should make every effort to stop violence  (happen) at school, for more and more students would drop out of school  their personal safety could not be guaranteed (保证). In fact, violence can  (copy). Children copy violent behavior from adults or from they see on television or on the Internet. 

 If I meet with school violence, I will not answer violence with violence, for it will result  more fighting. I will tell my teachers or parents about it. I think they will help me deal with it well and protect myself from the bad guys, which enables me (gain) a sense of security. 

 All in all, every student should behave himself and keep away from violence.

As I was coming into Middle School, Grade Six, I was really excited because my friend Jennifer was going to be in the same Middle School as me! At first things were great, she introduced me to her fiend, Amy and we had lots of fun together. Then things started to change. Jennifer was very controlling: I couldn't make new friends, because if I hung out with different people, she would decide that I was "mad at her and Amy". So I didn't make new friends, and pretty soon being Jennifer's friend became a battle between Amy and me.

 Jennifer wanted to be the "leader" of our little group. Amy and I were never partners in class projects or gym; it was always "Who gets the privilege (荣耀) of being Jennifer's partner." It was either Jennifer liked me and she left Amy out or Jennifer liked Amy and she left me out. Amy and I both wanted to be Jennifer's number one. Being Jennifer's friend became the most important thing in the world. 

 I always waited for Jennifer and Amy after classes, so we could walk together to our next class. Amy and Jennifer chatted by Jennifer's desk as Jennifer packed her books up and I waited by the door. Sometimes when they left, they'd walk right past me. No "Thanks for waiting". No "Sorry we took so long". It was as if they couldn't even see me. Yet I still waited after every single class. 

 Most of the time we gossiped (传播流言蜚语) about people, and I soon realized that nobody was good enough for Jennifer. Jennifer had a list of bad things about everybody, even Amy. And I'm sure she had a list of bad things about me, too. After months of living through school this way, I had really changed. I was moody, depressed, lonely, and I didn't smile much. I spent lots of days trying not to cry. I felt so left out.
