Joe lived in the same town all his life and felt perfectly pleased until his best friend moved away. Ravi's family recently moved from India to the US and he's struggling to find where he belongs. Even though Joe and Ravi at first believe that they don't have much in common, they both realize they have a common enemy—the biggest bully（仗势欺人者）in their class. Save Me a Seat is a story about the true meaning of friendship and understanding.

When Kyle Jauregui recently went to pick up his younger sister's birthday cake, he met with a bittersweet surprise.

On arriving at the baker's, he learnt that Madison's cake had already been paid for—by a complete stranger. It was a touching act of kindness, but, as it turned out, not a random one. The cake had been paid for by a lady known simply as "McKenna's mum"—as part of a gesture she had been making for a while, and for a heartbreaking reason.

While Madison was set to celebrate turning 11, McKenna Jodell Fox would have turned ten on the same day. McKenna was only nine months old in 2008，when she was crushed by a falling TV set as her family prepared to move house.

It's a painful occasion for her mum, but one she has transformed into something positive. The cake she bought was accompanied by a card which read as follows：

"Dear Birthday Girl Family,

In honour of my daughter's 10th birthday, I have chosen your birthday cake to pay for. Each year I do this random act of kindness because I am unable to buy my daughter a cake of her own. Today is her big double-digit birthday. Please enjoy your day. "

By Kyle's own admission, the whole family was left speechless. "We just want to say thank you to McKenna's mom," he wrote, "and wish McKenna a happy birthday. There's still good in this world. "

The earth is dying before us, yet we sit and watch. If the TV or the game system breaks, we run off to the stores to get it fixed immediately no matter what the cost. Why aren't we willing to fix our earth? Are our televisions and game systems more important to us than where we live? Where shall we continue to live, until the end of time?

The earth is our home and cannot be replaced. We must take care of it. We have come up with so much technology that limits us instead of helping us. Take that game system we run to repair. What does it do? It occupies kids'time! The earth has already given kids plenty of entertainment in the forms of fields and hills, forests and plains, water and land. However, instead of using what the earth has given us, and helping kids by giving them exercise as they run around, we decide to ruin kids' minds with game systems that glue them to the screen for hours, and make them ignore their homework and chores. We have polluted this earth by making these things which do not even help in any way!

We have already messed up this world. We have ruined the air, water, and animals that it has so willingly provided for us. We need to stop this destruction of life and bring back the world we had before. It will not be easy, but everybody can help! What about something as simple as turning the lights off when you leave a room? Recycling what can be recycled? Picking up litter? Donating money to an environmental organization? None of these things are very hard. We can't just always say, "Oh, the earth is a mess. Ah, well, those big companies that are polluting so much can stop and fix it. "Instead, we need to help out. It's not only those big companies; it's everyday things that we do too that are ruining the earth. So, stop and think about what you can do to make a difference to our world!

Organic food, grown without artificial chemicals (人造化学物质), is increasingly popular nowadays. Consumers have been willing to pay up to twice as much for goods with organic labels (商标). However, if you think paying a little more for organic food gets you a more nutritious and safer product, you might want to save your money. A study led by researchers at Stanford University says that organic products aren't necessarily more nutritious, and they're no less likely to suffer from disease-causing bacteria, either.

The latest results, published in the Annuals of Internal Medicine, suggest that buyers may be wasting their money. "We did not find strong evidence that organic food is more nutritious or healthier," says Dr. Crystal Smith from Stanford. "So, consumers shouldn't assume that one type of food has a lower risk or is safer. "

For their new study, Smith and her colleagues conducted a review of two categories of research, including 17 studies that compared health outcomes between consumers of organic against traditional food products, and 223 studies that analyzed the nutritional content (含量) of the foods, including key vitamins, minerals and fats.

While the researchers found little difference in nutritional content, they did find hat organic fruit and vegetables were 20% less likely to have chemicals remaining on the surfaces. Neither organic nor traditional foods showed levels of chemicals high enough to go beyond food safety standards. And both organic and traditional meats, such as chicken and pork, were equally likely to be harmed by bacteria at very low rates. The researchers did find that organic milk and chicken contained higher levels ofomega-3 fatty acids, a healthy fat also found in fish that can reduce the risk of heart disease. However, these nutritional differences were too small, and the researchers were unwilling to make much of them until further studies confirm the trends.

Organic food is produced with fewer chemicals and more natural-growing practices, but that doesn't always translate into a more nutritious or healthier product. The U. S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) states that "whether you buy organic food or not, finding the freshest foods available may have the biggest effect on taste. "Fresh food is at least as good as anything marketed as organic.

April 22nd every year marks the start of Earth Day, a day that is celebrated every year to raise awareness (意识) about our home planet and how we can save it from being damaged. ．

1. Greenup your home

This is one of the most common things that people do whenever Earth Day rolls around, that is, turn off their lights. ．Conserveenergy by turning off all power or electricity points whenever they are not in use, which we should do every day. On Saturday, Joan and Daisy, two 17-year-old friends, were enjoying sunshine at Furness Park when they noticed a man fall down on the sidewalk. Hurriedly, they came to the man's1.

A year ago, I came to the University of Birmingham to obtain a business qualification. Since then I've been living in university accommodation with other international students, it allows me to meet people from diverse cultural background.

The first few weeks there were absolute overwhelming because everything was so different comparing to things back home. I felt confused and lost. Therefore, I gradually adapted to my new life as a international student. I got familiar with the place. I made friends and became more confident in our studies day by day.
