Have you ever bought Genki Forest (元气森林) sparkling water because it's advertised as "sugar-free"? It's popular among students. The company recently apologized for a misleading advertisement. The company said the drinks are "sucrose-free" (零蔗糖), but this is not the same as "sugar-free". Now the company has changed the words "sugar-free" "to "low sugar" on the bottles. In fact, there are many kinds of sugar. Sucrose is just one of them. Other kinds of sugar, such as fructose (果糖) and sugar alcohol (糖醇), are still in Genki Forest drinks. These types of sugar are used as sweetener(甜味剂). They offer little energy, but a small amount of them can make drinks taste sweet. That's why diet drinks like Genki Forest are popular among people who want to lose weight. They believe that they can not only enjoy sweet drinks, but also avoid taking in too much sugar. However, studies find that, the sweeteners might make people eat more. When you eat sweet-tasting things, it sends your brain a ""sweet signal". Then your brain tells your body to prepare itself to take in energy. But since the diet soft drink has little energy, the brain will not receive what it is expecting. At this time, you will feel hungry and start getting energy by eating more food. According to China Daily, drinking too many diet drinks might lead to obesity(肥胖) and type 2 diabetes(糖尿病). It's time for you to think twice about the diet drink trend.

A scientist goes to a forest to study monkeys. He or she wants to study their habits and behavior. But the problem is: how to know who's who? In the past, scientists had to make marks on each of the animals to distinguish (分辨)them. But in the future, they may have a much easier way to tell them apart thanks to facial recognition technology. A research team from China's Northwest University is using facial recognition technology to identify (识别) thousands of snub-nosed monkeys that live on Qinling Mountain in Shaanxi province. Similar to human facial recognition, the technology that is used to identify monkeys uses their facial features to create a database(数据库) that includes every monkey, Xinhua reported. "When the system is fully developed, we can connect it with cameras set up in the mountains. The system will automatically (自动地) recognize the monkeys, name them and analyze(分析) their behavior, "said Zhang He, a member of the research team. "For each snub-nosed monkey, we have 700 to 800 image samples (样本), and the recognition success rate is 94 percent," Zhang added… Compared with facial recognition technology for humans, facial recognition technology for monkeys is more complicated (复杂的) because monkeys have hairier faces. The color of their hair causes them to blend (融入) into their environment. These factors make it harder for computers to do the job. "Monkeys do not cooperate(合作) with researchers in the same way humans do. It is difficult to take high-quality pictures and videos of them, which are needed to improve the system," said Li Baoguo, leader of the research team. At present, there are about 4, 000 snub-nosed monkeys living on Qinling Mountain. The team's goal is to successfully identify every monkey that lives there.

The Chong Yang Festival has a history of over 2, 000 years. Therefore, it is called the Double Ninth Festival. It is a time when it's getting cold, so Chinese people make the festival a time for sending winter clothes to the dead family members. Because autumn has a dear sky and fresh air, it is a very good time to climb a mountain. Also, it is good for our health. On the Chong Yang Festival, people also eat Chong Yang cakes, enjoy chrysanthemum flowers (菊花), and drink chrysanthemum wine. Today, the Chong Yang Festival has got its new meaning - a day for showing respect for the old. Many young people accompany(陪伴) the old on outings, or make some delicious food for them.
