    Growing up in a bad home, I learned to protect myself by not speaking up. When I was a  (孩子), I didn't want to say anything about my bad life.

    I'll finish my(大学) this year, and want to be a popular writer. Then I will start speaking up. How did I get to where I am today? What helped me? That's the friends with care and love (围绕) me. They taught me how to slow down, to live on, to be(勇敢的), and be thankful for what I got. They also taught me to turn my past experiences into power.

    Now my (希望) is to help others to see what is possible even in the darkest of times. I don't think I'm special in any way. I am just a (普通的) man and have no difference with anyone (其他). I don't know what tomorrow might bring. But one thing I learn is that if we can hold on, and find ways to get through the (麻烦), we'll not only live on, but become strong  (足够的).

    Callie Lent, a fourth- grade schoolgirl, is doing something special after losing her friend Ben Town.

    At the age of 2, Ben got cancer(癌症). Callie and her family often brought food to the Town family. Ben died a year later. Ben's parents started the Ben Town Foundation(基金会). Callie wanted to do something for the foundation and she thought it a good idea to start a company to help.

    The family was excited to start the company. Their coffee beans sold very well. Callie's father, Ryan, decided to move the company into a bigger place because it grew so quickly.

    “I am not so sure who is having more fun doing this. Callie or me?” said Callie's father, Ryan. “It's fun for Mollie and me to see our children be a part of something bigger than themselves. We learned a lot from them.”

    Most people want to be happy, but few know how to find happiness. Happiness depends on ourselves. In other words, we make our own happiness. Here are a few suggestions to help you be happier.

    Too often, we spend so much time thinking about the future for example, getting into college or getting a good job that we fail to enjoy the present. You should enjoy life's simple pleasures, such as reading a good book, listening to your favourite music, or spending time with close friends.

Another secret to leading a happy life is to be active and have hobbies where you forget your problems. Many people experience this through dancing or playing a sport, such as skating or playing soccer. You can forget about your problems, and only think about the activity.

    Finally, many people find happiness in helping others. According to studies, people feel good when they volunteer their time to help others. You can help a friend with his or her lessons, go shopping to buy food for your family members, or simply help out around the house by washing the dishes.
