    Last week I (take) on a difficult task of showing kindness. The idea came from a few posts on a website. I decided (reach) out to a few people I hadn't talked to for the past few years.

    One was a cousin, I had lost touch with for 25 years. She was very happy when we got touch. The other two were friends I hadn't talked to in nearly 10 years. It was really good to talk to (they) both.

    With one of them, I reached out at a great time for him. He had forgotten my name (entire) but remembered I disliked (run) when young because I had asthma (哮喘). He was grateful that I called him and said some very kind (thing) to me about our past. I am glad our friendship mattered to him.

    I think is good to be the one to take the initiative (主动性) to be kind and reach out. Even if it seems difficult at the time, in the end it offers (wonder) rewards!

    Be kind to others. I realize this is simple and very basic. However, it is necessary and it does make a difference. I often have people who cross my daily path to whom I can show kindness. It is often just a smile. A smile often says, "I see you. You aren't invisible to me. You are important." People need someone to care about them.

    I read a story many years ago about a man who had decided to commit suicide. He'd lost a fortune, his family and nearly everything he owned. He went to a local pawn shop to buy a gun. He planned to take the gun back to his apartment in New York City and kill himself.

    As he was getting on the elevator, a little old lady was slowly getting on too. She had a small cart she was pulling behind her and was having a little trouble getting it into the elevator. He said that he was actually a bit angry because he wanted to hurry up, get to his apartment and end his own life. He reached out to the old lady's cart and forced it as it had become stuck. He got it free easily and she got on the elevator.

    After the door closed, she looked up at him with a big smile and said, "If we had more young men like you in this world, the world would be a better place. You are so kind to help. Such a sweet young man."

    Of course, it changed his thought of going back to kill himself. He wanted to go around New York and find people that he could help and people who were struggling even with something that was as small as the little old lady's cart.

    The eight-year-old Carol lived with her father David, mother May and elder brother Rob. The little family happily lived in a beautiful village surrounded with beautiful nature. The village was at the foot of a mountain, with beautiful views of the snowy mountain. The family survived on growing seasonal plants and trees.

    While they lived a very happy life, Carol did not love the beautiful atmosphere (氛围) of the village. She really wanted to move into the city and enjoy the city life. She wanted to shop, move around the city, watch movies, and eat in fantastic restaurants and cafes, etc. However, there was hardly any chance that Carol's family moved to the city as they had everything in the village.

    One day, Carol fell asleep during the early noon and she had a sound sleep. Of course, she had a strange dream. Carol requested her grandmother to give her a chance to enjoy the city life as she always desired.

    Grandmother understood the desire of Carol, but still wanted to warn her that the peaceful village life was better than the city life. She told Carol, “Baby, you cannot have access (接触的机会) to fresh fruits and vegetables from plants as you have at your home. You cannot breathe fresh air. You cannot play with animals. You can hardly find any trees. You will not find peace as you see here! Do you still want to go to the city?”

    Without hearing the concerns, Carol asked her grandmother to grant the wish. Grandmother granted her wish, but with a condition. Carol was told that she would only have 6 hours to spend in the city. Later, she would return to the village. Carol agreed.

More and more travellers in China nowadays prefer homestays rather than traditional hotels, as they seek private living experiences. The house－sharing model was first introduced by the website Couchsurfing. com in 2003. It is still the largest website for travellers to find accommodation (食宿) without much money to spend.

Encouraged by her great experience of homestays in France, Maggita, 30, considered short－term hire as her first choice in her future trips. She later went back to her hometown Shanghai and ran a “shared accommodation” business.

The short-term hire idea has been a win-win business model. For travellers, they can rent a special room at a reasonable price and also enjoy a firsthand experience of the local culture, compared with traditional hotels. For owners, they can gain much with daily rental. Now Maggita has quit her last job in an IT company and become a host of some 20 homestays, which enables her to earn a monthly income of around 40,000-50,000 yuan.

In recent years, China has seen many homestay booking websites such as Xiaozhu and Tujia. Chen Chi, the founder and CEO of Xiaozhu, said the model is to share rooms or apartments that are not in use with people who need them. Instead of the traditional view that Chinese people feel uncomfortable living with strangers, Chen found that a large number of travellers got along well with house owners.

However, experts have pointed out a series of problems brought about by the fashion. Lacking supervision (监管) to those accommodation sharing websites, the service quality and accommodation safety cannot be guaranteed. Experts suggest that the online websites should closely work together with communities and local police stations to improve the services.

1 Learn from mistakes.

It's important to test your memory. You'd better check to see if you are right.. In fact, making mistakes can be a good thing. You can then concentrate on where you need the most help.

2 Find examples

Something abstract(抽象的）can be hard to understand. It is far easier to form a picture in your mind if you have an example of something.  For example, sour foods usually taste that way because they contain an acid. . But if you think about a lemon or vinegar, it's easier to understand and remember that acids and sour go together.

Many students know what learning skills are. But often they don't plan when they want to put them in action. Even when students do make plans, something more attractive may come up. Have a set time and place where you do schoolwork and studying. And put your phone somewhere else while you work. Study during that time, and you can concentrate.
