The number one thing you'll probably do is book your flight if you want to travel to another country. But in some countries, you won't be able to fly directly.

Vatican City, the smallest country in the world, as a 109-acre area in the middle of Rome, doesn't have its own airport, but visitors can easily get there via Italy's capital.

Similarly, San Marino, the fifth smallest country in the world, is also surrounded by Italian land. It has a population of a little more than 33,000 and sits just nine miles from Federico Fellini International Airport in Rimini, Italy.

The second-smallest country in the world is Monaco, with a population of more than 38, 500. To get there, you'll have to go through France's Nice Cote d'Azur Airport, which is just a 25-minute car ride away from Monaco. Perhaps that's why developers didn't bother creating anything like a short flight.

Interestingly enough, the third and fourth smallest countries, Nauru and Tuvalu have their own airports, but the fifth and sixth smallest don't We already mentioned San Marino, and to get to Liechtenstein, you'll have to go through Switzerland's St. Gallen-Altenrhein Airport, 24 miles away from the capital.

No such luck trying to fly into Andorra, which only requires a 25-mile drive to get from one end of the country to the other. Situated in a mountain range valley, Andorra has too much difficulty in building an airport runway. But for visitors there is no difficulty in going Andorra. People who experience face blindness can have a hard time in their social life. They have trouble remembering or recognizing faces. The term "face blindness" isn't exactly accurate though. They just can't put all the parts together into one coherent image that they remember and recognize when they see it again, which is why proper name for face blindness is prosopagnosia, or literally "not knowing the face".

These clues include the way they sound (their voice or accent), the way they look (body size, shape or height), the way they smell, their clothing, their hair (style, colour or length) and obvious features on their face (beards, piercings heavy eyebrow, glasses). Because they're not always unique to one person and they can change. This is why face blindness can cause so much stress.

If you don't experience face blindness, you've probably never given much thought to your ability to recognize familiar people or how important that is to your social interactions and feelings of safety. But imagine if you didn't know whether the person approaching you is a friend or a stranger.  Or imagine not being able to find the teacher when you need to use the toilet, because your teacher wears glasses and none of the adults in the room are wearing glasses today.

A. These are important ways to remember someone's face.

B. Do you say hello or just keep on walking?

C. Those with face blindness have to use other clues to recognize people.

D. It's easy to see the effect this would have on your social skills and confidence.

E. These are much less effective ways to recognize someone.

F. There are tests you can take to get an idea about your face-recognizing abilities.

G. They actually can see faces.

Three Japanese tourists taking a holiday in Australia got stuck when their GPS told them they could drive from the mainland to an island, failing to mention the 15 kilometres of water and mud in between.

As they drove their hired car from Moreton Bay to nearby North Stradbroke Island, they started to notice the firm surface they were driving on giving way to the wellknown bay mud. However, being confident that their GPS would direct them to a road soon, they decided to drive on, managing to travel around 500 metres before their car was up to its tires in mud. To make matters worse, the tide (潮汐) started to come in and soon forced them to seek help and abandon the vehicle. Just four hours later the car was trapped in two metres of water—to the great amusement of onlookers on the shore and passengers on passing boats and ferries.

Yuzu Noda, 21, said she was listening to the GPS and "it told us we could drive down there. It kept saying it would navigate (导航) US to a road. But we got stuck… there's lots of mud". She and her travel companions Tomonari Saeki, 22, and Keita Osada, 21, instead had to give up their plans for a day trip to the island and headed back to the Gold Coast of a lift from the RACQ tow truck (吊车) driver who was called to the trapped car. No such luck for the hired car, though—after assessing the situation, no attempt was made to recover it. The students from Tokyo, who are due to return home tomorrow, said the experience would not put them off returning to Australia for another visit. Mr Tomonari said, "It has rained every day on our six day holiday. Hopefully next time we come back it will be sunny. "

The car was covered by insurance, but the tourists will have to pay up to about $1,500 in extra charges.

  1. (1) Why did the three Japanese tourists get stuck?
A . There was no way to the island. B . Their GPS had given the wrong information. C . Their GPS was broken during their journey. D . Their car was not made in Japan.
  2. (2) Why did the tourists abandon their car?
A . Some onlookers went to save them. B . They got stuck in the mud. C . There came the tide. D . They managed to travel around 500 metres.
  3. (3) How did these Japanese students get back?
A . They had to walk back to their living place. B . They had to repair their GPS and drove back. C . They had to turn to passengers on boats and ferries. D . They had to take a lift from the tow truck driver.
  4. (4) What can we know from the passage?
A . The car was left where it was trapped. B . The passengers saved these students in the end. C . Mr Tomonari got very down after the journey. D . No money has to be paid thanks to insurance.

Vaping can be just as damaging to your health as smoking. But the minute you kick the habit, you'll feel a difference.

Vaping is the use of electronic cigarettes — e-cigarettes. Vaping became mainstream in the United States in the late 2000s. When e-cigarettes first hit the market, people believed they were a safer choice to tobacco cigarettes. We now know, however, that vaping, like smoking cigarettes can be quite damaging to your health and equally addictive.

Kids and teenagers are especially attracted to vaping, thanks to attractive flavors. Vape use in high school students rose by 900 percent between 2011 and 2015. Quitting vaping can be difficult, just like trying to stop smoking. There are some immediate, though often temporary, negative effects. The positive ones soon outpace the negative, however.

In as little as 20 minutes, your heart rate returns to normal, your blood pressure drops, and your circulation starts to normalize. Your breathing may improve, too. Daily e-cigarette doubles a persons risk for a heart attack. If you quit, however, the risk begins to fall very quickly. Also, vaping, like cigarette smoking, can blunt your senses, reducing your ability to smell and taste. After just 48 hours without vaping, you may begin to notice your ability to taste and smell food has improved. Nicotine affects more than your brain: new research suggests nicotine can raise your blood sugar, too.

Smokers often have a troublesome cough or make a breathless sound when they breathe that many refer to as a smokers cough. Smoking even e-cigarettes can badly harm your lung health and make fighting off infections difficult. Quitting, however, will help your lungs recover. After one month, your lung capacity improves. There will come a day when the bad habit of vaping won't have any lasting influence on your body and your health.

  1. (1) What did Americans think of e-cigarettes?
    A . They were cheaper. B . They were less harmful. C . They were more fashionable. D . They were environment-friendly.
  2. (2) What makes vaping popular among kids and teenagers?
    A . Its colour. B . Its price. C . Its shape. D . Its taste.
  3. (3) What does the underlined word "blunt" in paragraph 4 mean?
    A . dull. B . sharp. C . improve. D . benefit.
  4. (4) What does the author intend to do by writing the text?
A . Introduce the wide use of e-cigarettes. B . Point out how e-cigarettes harm the old. C . Encourage people to refuse e-cigarettes. D . Compare e-cigarettes with traditional ones.
