If music makes you smarter and exercise helps you to think, surely exercising to music can turn you into a clever person.
A team of scientists from Ohio State University did experiments on 33 volunteers who were getting better from heart disease after operations. They found those volunteers who exercised while listening to Italian musician Antonio Vivaldi's The Four Seasons did much better on language ability tests than without music. It is also used in medical fields for patients who have had head hurts because of its moderate tempo (舒缓的节拍).
“Exercise seems to cause positive changes in the nerve (神经) system and these changes may improve the learning ability of people with heart disease,” said the psychologist Charles Emery, who led the study. “And listening to music is thought to enhance understanding. We just wanted to put the two results together,” he added.
The volunteers said they felt better emotionally and physically after exercising with or without music. But their improvement on the test doubled after listening to music during exercise. Scientists have proved that music can be good for health and education. It helps reduce stress and sadness, encourage relaxation or sleep, wake up the body and improve memory and thoughts.
Scientists have been studying the results of exercise to music on learning and understanding since the early 1950s. A study showed that students who listened to Mozart's violin pieces and exercised went on to get higher marks in an IQ test. With important exams drawing near, your parents will not probably allow you to listen to music or play sports. But perhaps now you have good reasons to argue with them.

Before the spring Festival, which is the most important festival in China, millions of passengers are struggling to make the once-a-year trip home. Because of a power failure caused by snow, more than 136 trains were forced to stay in Hunan Province. Almost 150,000 passengers were stopped from going back their homes. It's reported that the losses will be 111.1 billion yuan.
In central China's Hunan Province, one of the worst hit area, seven people have died and snow is affecting(影响) the lives of 25.22 million people in 14 cities and 112 counties across the province. Though the power supply resumed(恢复) at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, 50 trains remain stranded (滞留) between Hengyang City in Hunan and Guangzhou provinces. And in Guangzhou, an official with Guangzhou railway authorities said the number of stranded passengers in Guangzhou City alone could hit 600,000 on Monday if the situation continued.

He Jiang,a postgraduate(研究生)in biology, will become the first Chinese student to give a speech in the commencement(毕业典礼) at Harvard University on May 26,2016.
Given the highest honor by the university. He Jiang, who was born in a small village in Hunan province, said,"People in China often believe that it's useless to study and children from the countryside cannot be successful in the future. However,I cannot agree with them.Education can change a person's life.I hope my experience can encourage the students from the countryside to spare no effort in study and make their dream come true."
Different from many other families in the village, his parents never thought about finding a job in big cities and leaving their two sons at home without their care. His farther was strict about their studies. He and his younger brother studies at home while the other kids in the village played in the fields.Unlike his strict farther, his mother took her sons'side when her husband scolded the boys. She preferred to sit with her sons when they studied rather than chat with other women in the village.

He Jiang will go to Massachusetts Institute of Technology after graduating from Harvard.
A recent study from a team of South Korean researchers suggests that eating alone often may lead to poor eating habits and poor food choices. Specifically, the study found that men who ate alone more than twice a week had a greater risk of developing high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes.
For children, eating with their families is not only about preventing bad outcomes (结果) —it is also about developing good ones.
In 2014, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) looked at data from nearly three-quarters of the world's countries. Among its findings was the fact that students who shared a main meal with their families were less likely to skip school. Children who eat a main meal with their families are also less likely to abuse drugs and alcohol (吸毒酗酒).
In the report, titled "The Importance of Family Dinners (VIII)", researchers say that "teens who have frequent family dinners are more likely to say their parents know a lot about what's going on in their lives". They also claim that when teens say they feel closer to their parents, they are less likely to use drugs and alcohol.
Another study from the University of Montreal found that children who ate with their families experience long —term physical and mental health benefits (好处). These children were physically in better shape and drank fewer sugary soft drinks. These children also seemed to have better social skills and they were less aggressive (好斗的).
Professor Linda Pagani says that mealtimes shared with parents "likely provide young children with first-hand social interactions, discussions of social issues (事件) and day-to-day concerns". She adds that they may likely help the child have better communication skills with others.
Some people surveyed taste the sweet, salty, and crunchy together with other tastes of food as they listen to different noises. It shows that louder noises reduced the reported sweetness or saltiness of food while increasing the measure of crunchiness(松脆).
It may go some way to explains why airline food is widely complained about by both the workers and passengers. Andy Woods, a researcher, said, "It's a general opinion that plane foods aren't fantastic, but I'm sure airlines do their best, so we wondered if there were other reasons. One thought was that perhaps the background noise may have an effect. NASA gives their space explores very strong-tasting foods, because for some reason, they can't taste food that strongly-again, it may have something to do with the background noise."
In a study, 48 people were fed sweet foods or salty ones, while listening to nothing or noise through earphones. Meanwhile they rated the foods. In noisier settings, foods were rated less salty or sweet than they were when it was silent, but were crunchier, "The evidence shows that if the background noise is loud, your attention might be drawn to that, away from the food," Dr. Woods said.
"We are still be an early stage of progressing and this is a too small study to really draw definitive(完整可靠的) conclusions from," Dr. Woods said, "but it suggests that restaurants could well adapt their choice of food for a given environment."
Also in the group's findings there is the suggestion that the overall satisfaction with the food is also related to the degree to which people like what they are hearing.
Every year on April 22, Earth Day is celebrated (庆祝) all over the world. It is a time to work towards keeping our earth clean. People plan projects to clean up the land, air and water.
U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson first thought of the idea for Earth Day in 1962 when he saw polluted rivers and cities covered with smoke. Senator Nelson needed to get support from Americans to clean up the earth. Finally, on April 22, 1970, 20 million Americans celebrated the first Earth Day! Now many countries around the world celebrate it, and so can you. How can you celebrate Earth Day? Here are a few ideas: Join a clean-up project-Clean up your street or a favorite beach.
Save energy-Turn off the lights when you leave a room, and use public transportation.
Use less water.
Reduce (减少) / Reuse/ Recycle-Practice the three Rs: First, reduce how much you use. Then reuse or recycle what you can.
You can make a difference on Earth Day and every day!

In the Central American country, men and women are able to leave their homes for only two hours at a time, and on different days. No one is allowed to go out on Sundays. "This rule is for nothing more than to save your life." the security minister Juan Pino said. |
Colombia |
In some Colombian towns, people are allowed to go outside based on the last number of their national ID number. For example, people with an ID number ending with 0,7 or 4 are allowed to leave their house on Mondays, while those with an ID number ending with 1,8 or 5 can go outside on Tuesdays. |
Sweden |
The government of Sweden believes that people will do the right things. Gathering* of more than 50 people are not allowed on Sundays but schools for children under the age of 16 remain open. Many people are still meeting friends as usual in the restaurants, on which people both at home and abroad have different opinions. |
Nowadays many parents think of studying as the only important thing and are not willing to allow their children to play computer games. However, they don't realize that they may get in the way of their children's communication with others. Playing computer games is one of the ways for teenagers to have fun, communicate and relax with friends in some ways. Here are some opinions about this.
Some computer games are good for children's development of art, English or music. My 14-year-old child can play a meaningful game for no more than 25 minutes at a time. It interests him much in speaking English. |
In my free time, I may play some relaxing computer games with my daughter. It makes us happy and helps improve our relationship. But we often promise to take a 10-minute break every half an hour. |
On weekends, my son can play computer games with his classmates. It can last at most one hour. He never breaks the rule and he is thankful to his dad and me. He likes the teamwork in the games. | Playing some kind of computer games can help our children type faster and think better. The most important is to lead them to play computer games in a right way rather than just keep them away. ) |
Oregon firefighters putting out wildfires across the state have a new "force" on their team: a plush (绒毛) Baby Yoda doll. It has become a symbol of hope and joy among the firefighters. They have been tirelessly fighting the big wildfire since early September. The fire has killed at least nine firefighters.
It all began when five-year-old Carver and his grandmother found the plush toy at home while searching for something to donate (捐赠) to Oregon firefighters.
The toy, along with a note saying, "Thank you, firefighters. Here is a friend for you if you get lonely. Love, Carver," was handed to donation site on September 12, 2020. "We were all really moved that Carver wanted to give a companion to the men and women who were risking their lives to fight the wildfires." says a volunteer Tyler Eubanks.
Eubanks took the toy to a group of firefighters working to put out the fire in Colton, Oregon. At the beginning, she planned to take a few pictures of the Baby Yoda in action for Carver, and then bring back the toy to the donation site. However, the firefighters decided to hold on to the doll and share it to lift the spirits of firefighters across the state and also those fighting fires in Colorado.
"He's been a really big encouragement," said Drake, a firefighter. "It just really meant a lot to us, and it was really emotional for a lot of people."
It's not just the firefighters that are finding comfort in the doll. "Baby Yoda Fights Fires," a Facebook page Eubanks set up to record the toy's adventures as it spreads through different people, has won over 50,000 fans, many of whom look forward to the daily updates.
"Because of all these photos, people are now seeing the human faces behind the wildfires," Eubanks said in excitement. "The attention is giving firefighters a huge encouragement, which is something that's really needed right now."
In China and even in the world, Huawei is a wonder, At 9, 00 p. m. , on February 24, 2019, Barcelona, Huawei's first 5G foldablescreen mobile phone Huawei Mate X was globally released , known as "the world's fastest foldable 5G mobile phone". The Mate х has a 6. 6-inch screen, which can be extended into an eight inch OLED scree-n to allow the user to read or view videos. After the release of the new machine, many foreign professional reporters gave high praise.
In 1987, Huawei was started in Shenzhen. After more than 30 years of development the company has now beaten Apple and become the world's second largest maker of smartphones behind Korea's Samsung. It has also become the world's largest supplier of 5G,
But recently, Huawei faced some difficulties, The US, government placed a ban on its sales in American, American officials said Huawei gave information that it collected to the Chinese government. At the same time, the US government planned to stop selling parts and services to Huawei, which was believed that Huawei's business would be hurt.
"We have never received such a request from the Chinese government and we have never tried to collect information, "Ren Zhengfei, Huawei's CEO said, "Thisban from the US government would have little influence on our company. Huawei has enough ability to deal with the problems. "
The company sold 58. 4 million smartphones in the first season of 2019. With Huawei's technological advantages in 5G, Al, photography and other fields, I believe that Huawei's world first will not be too far away,
Two sessions was held from May21st to May 28th in Beijing this year. Students are not CPPCC members, but they have a chance as model members to share their proposals (提案) in CPPCC.

I think senior high schools should have the right to hold independent recruitment (自主招生). At present, students are being picked by schools according to their scores in the senior high school entrance exam. This is mainly because the government wants students to have equal education.
But I believe independent recruitment should still be allowed. If an excellent student does poorly in the entrance exam, what can he do if there are no other exams offered by schools? This is unfair for such students. Their future should not be decided by only one exam.
Liu Shiqi, 13, Shanghai
There should be more PE classes for students who want more exercise. PE classes have become shorter in many schools, including mine.
For example, we can only go to the playground after class. It takes about 10 minutes or even more to go downstairs and upstairs. During rainy seasons, especially in spring, we aren't able to exercise outside. And in winter, smog is so heavy that most outdoor classes have to be cancelled.
I think schools should provide students with more exercise, when PE classes can mostly be guaranteed (保证) to be outdoors.
Yan Ruiqi, 16, Shenzhen
I think the government should provide disabled people with greater access(通道) to public transportation. If so, they can get around more conveniently by themselves.
For example, subways and buses should be fully accessible to wheelchair users. Taxis should specially provide services for disabled passengers.
Last but not least, traffic lights should make a sound when they turn red or green so that blind people know when it's safe to cross.
One participant said "As model members, we found social problems through proposals and discussions. We discovered our responsibility(责任) for building a better society. It encourages us to care more about the society."

Sometimes what we write online may have bad results we don't expected. A few years ago, a girl's birthday party turned into a nightmare (噩梦). Fifteen-year-old Cathy posted her address (地址) and an invitation to her birthday party online. When her parents got back from the cinema that evening, they couldn't believe their eyes. There were 500 people at the party, and some of them were even breaking windows, making a mess of the house.
Most teens think they know everything about social media and things like this could never happen to them. A study shows more than many young people have got into trouble because of their online activities.
Here are some important tips. They will help you to be safer online.
RULE1: Share with care!
Not everyone will like what you write on Facebook or WeChat. You can never completely control who sees your texts, your pictures, or your videos. Before posting them, everyone should ask themselves two questions: "How will I feel if my family or teachers see this?" and "How might this post be bad for me in three, five or ten years from now?'1 RULE 2: Be polite when you write!
Imagine someone is unfriendly in real life. You don't like it, right? Well, the same is true of online communication. Politeness matters, and anyone can be polite. No one likes it when you "shout" in your messages. If you feel angry or upset while you're writing a message, wait a bit. Read it again later and then send it.
RULE 3: Protect and respect (尊重)!
Don't share your passwords with anyone. Don't post your home or email address online. Pay attention to "cyberbullying (网上欺凌)" 一 don't say anything bad about other people. If you get messages like that or see them online, talk to parents or teachers.
Tanya Ferguson lives in Sydney. On September 23, she woke up to a strong wind blowing through her window. She then saw that the room was completely orange.
"I could not believe my eyes," she told BBC news. She thought there was a bush fire. But when she went outside, the whole city was covered in a film of orange dust.
"It was like being in the outback, but it was right here in the city," she said.
On that day, a big dust storm swept through Sydney. It covered the city in orange dust for about eight hours, and people can't see landmarks such as the Sydney Opera House and Harbor Bridge.
The storm influenced the transportation system. Flights were put off. Roads were busy in the difficult conditions. Children and the elderly were told to stay indoors until the dust had cleared. Later strong winds blew it out to sea and up the coast. No one was hurt in the storm, though health officials and emergency services answered hundreds of calls from people with breathing difficulties.
Dust storms are common in the Australian outback, where the land is poor. But the storms hardly reach the coastal areas. Officials said it was the worst dust storm of the past 70 years. Experts said that dry conditions in the outback and strong winds caused the sandstorm.
"Ten very dry years over inland southern Australia and very strong winds have co-operated to produce the storm," said Nigel Tapper, an environmental scientist at Monash University, Australia.
5 Questions for Tanitoluwa Adewumi At age 6, Tani and his family came to the U.S. as refugees(难民). Now at 10, he's a chess master. |
|
When my family came to the USA from Nigeria, we lived in a homeless shelter. My brother and I tried chess for something to do. We didn't know all the rules but wanted to give it a try. |
At school, I saw a notice about a chess club, and it was for free so I could join. I trained on chess websites, read chess books, and worked puzzles to help me get better. I practice for seven to eight hours a night after school. |
Yes. I failed in my first tournament( 锦 标赛 ), 3 games in a row, then months later won a state tournament. My chess rating this year, after winning over 30 tournaments, made me a U.S. National Chess Master. I am trying to become the youngest grand-master—the highest title rank in chess. |
The pressure of winning or losing. But I try to keep a good mindset and not worry about that. In my mind, I never lose—I only learn. Learning from mistakes is a way of winning for yourself. |
My family and I wrote the book about our life, and it has facts that some people might not know about us. The money from the book goes to help needy families who don't have much, just like we were helped when we first came to the USA. |
A. How did you learn more about the game? B. How did you start playing chess? C. Can you tell me about your book? D. You've been competing since you were eight? E. What's the most difficult part of competition? |
