It started when Adam Braun studied in a college. He was visiting India when a boy stopped him and a for money on the street. Mr Braun asked the boy w he would want, if he could have anything in the world.
"I thought the answer was going to be 'a house' or 'a car' or 'a boat'. His answer was 'a pencil'. So I gave him my pencil and he was very h and excited. I realized he had never been to s before, and that was the reality(现实) for 57 million children around the world," Braun said.
Adam Braun started working in finance(金融) after he graduated from college, but he n forgot the boy and the problem he realized.
"We live in a world in which every child can have a chance to get a good education, because we have everything necessary already. We are .a to educate every child. So I promised to help create that world," Braun said.
Mr Braun has r money for his project. He paid for building the first Pencils of Promise School in Laos five years ago. S then, his organization has helped pay for more than 200 schools in the countryside of Laos and Ghana.

One night, Poll flees(逃离) from the farmer's house. He goes back to his island and decides not to leave his friends forever.
New research suggests that climate change helped dogs develop from animals looking like cats to the way they are today. Scientists from Brown University in the USA believe that 40 million years ago, dogs were smaller and they looked like cats. They hid, ran after and killed other animals. As climate changed in the world, the physique (体型) and eatinghabits of dogs also changed. Thick forests that once covered North America started to become less thick as the earth became cooler.
The appearance of grassland made dogs have fewer places to hide to hunt for food. To get used to the environment, they changed their ways of hunting and slowly grew longer legs. The scientists studied how dogs have changed themselves by looking at the elbows (肘部) and teeth of 32 different species that lived from 2 million to 40 million years ago. The scientists said that the dogs' Bows greatly changed. Dogs from 40 million years ago had elbows that were more similar to those of cats. The function of the elbows was to allow the front paws (爪子)to catch what they could get and hold on to it. The elbows changed to allow dogs to become good runners and then they were able to run after other animals over long distances. Teeth in dogs also changed to be more useful. They became much stronger to be able to hold on to what they get.
① Dogs grew longer legs.
② Climate changed.
③ Dogs changed ways of hunting.
④ Forests became less thick.
Friendship is one of the greatest happiness that people can enjoy. It is very difficult to find a better way to explain friendship. A true friend finds happiness in our joy and share sadness in our grief(伤心事). During the life time, he or she is always at our side to give us his or her help and comfort.
Knowing how valuable friendship is, we should be careful in our choice of a friend. We must choose someone who has a good character, whose activities are good and who shows kindness of heart.
A true friend can always be trusted, loved and respected. If you tell a friend your secrets, he or she won't tell anyone else. Friends share each other's joys and grief. They help each other when they are in trouble, and cheer each other up when they are sad. The most important things is that a friend always understands you. In a word, when you have made a good friend, don't forget him or her.
Today, roller skating (滑旱冰) is easy and fun. But many years ago, it wasn't easy at all. Before 1743, people never tried skating on wheels. That changed because of a man named John Joseph Merlin. Merlin's work was making instruments. In his free time he liked to play the violin. Merlin was a man with many ideas and many dreams. People called him a dreamer.
One day Merlin received an invitation to go to an important party. He was very pleased and a little excited. As the day of the party came near, Merlin began to think. He wanted to find a way to make a wonderful entrance at the party. Merlin had an idea. He thought that he would attract a lot of attention if he could skate into the room.
Merlin tried different ways to make himself roll. Finally, he decided to put two wheels under each shoe. These were the first roller skate shoes. Merlin was very proud of them. He dreamed of arriving at the party and skating into the room while playing the violin. He was sure that everyone would be very surprised.
On the night of the party Merlin rolled into the room, playing his violin. Everyone was really surprised to see him. There was just one problem. Merlin had no way to stop his roller skating. He rolled on, playing the violin. Then, with all eyes on him, Merlin hit into a huge mirror on the wall. The mirror broke into many pieces with a very loud noise. But nobody forgot Merlin's wonderful entrance after that.
At the beginning of November, the 35th Chinese Antarctic Expedition set off for the polar region. This time, one of their main tasks is to build China's first permanent Antarctic airport, Science and Technology Daily reported.
There are more than 30 airports in the Antarctic, according to Global Times. China's polar plane Xueying 601 has to take off and land at Russian airports.
"The new airport will help Chinese aircraft take off and land in the South Pole. This will make it easier to transport scientific equipment and do research," Zhang Xia from the Polar Research Institute of China told Global Times.
"In order to be environmentally friendly, the airport will be small," said Sun Bo, the leader of the research teamHowever, this doesn't make it easy to build the airport. The site of the airport is an ice cap 28 kilometers away from Zhongshan Antarctic Station, Xinhua noted. It covers the land like a quilt. But this "quilt" is always moving. Scientists have to find the slowest-moving part of the cap. You can hardly notice the movement of the ice in this area.
The snow on the ice cap can be very thick. Also, it is as soft as cotton, which makes it hard to build a runway for airplanes. Scientists have to use a snow blower to get rid of the snow on top of the cap. This way, the snow will be strong and hard enough to build a runway on top of.
A. The next problem is the snow.
B. An ice cap is a thick layer of ice.
C. But none of them belong to China.
D. It is much smaller than the usual airports in our cities.
E. Then, they compact the rest of the snow with a road roller-like machine.

This is a light-hearted book filled with colorful pictures. The book mainly tells that all feelings are OK, which is important for children to understand. This is a great introduction to talking about feelings. The funny pictures and simple words are perfect for young children. |
|
This book is more likely to catch boys' attention, although girls may enjoy it too.The basic message is that everyone has feelings. The pictures in this book are of super heroes that look disappointed, sad, embarrassed and so on. The final page is beautiful: a dad and his little son are reading together. They're tough guys "who love each other very much". |
|
This book invites children to imagine that everyone carries a bucket(桶) filled with good feelings. We can help fill people's buckets by doing kind things. One ofthe many good things about the book is that it talks about the fact that we should fill our own buckets by taking care of ourselves. It also talks about the fact that doing nice things for people makes us feel good. |
The three books can help you teach your children about their feelings and how to manage them. As a primary school teacher, I've used them to teach my students about different feelings. Helping children learn to express and manage their feelings can lead to an increase in confidence(自信心).
Have you ever been angry with yourself when you forget something important? Maybe you think you have a bad memory, do you know your memory can be developed? Here are some ways for you to have a try.
★Be positive(积极的). Do not tell yourself your memory is bad, or your mind will believe it and you won't remember things easily. If you think you can, then you can.
★Relax yourself. People are too nervous to remember things well. Relaxing will help you a lot. Take deep breath and you can remember things easily.
★Think more. Things you know may help you to remember something new. For example, when you remember the word "classroom", think of the old words "class" and "room", it will help you remember quickly.
★Do more practice. Like your body, memory can be improved through exercise. The more times you practice, the more easily you will remember something.
★Eat healthy food. Healthy eating can improve your memory. It is reported that fish is good for improving memory, so try to eat more fish from now on.

How Shall We Go To Grandma's House?
How shall we go to Grandma's house?
Shall we jump on a bike?
Shall we take a train,
or go there by bus,
or maybe by plane?
If we lived a long time ago, of course,
we'd go to see Grandma
by donkey or horse.
If we lived in the future,
we'd go there by rocket
and bring Grandma a star
in our space-suit pocket.
How shall we go to Grandma's house?
We could take the car,
but let's use our feet.
Grandma just lives
a block down
the street!
