Body language is extremely important when it comes to making good first impressions. It's always helpful to know what body cues show you in a positive light, especially during interviews or networking when you're meeting someone for the first time._36_Keep these tips in mind when you're interacting with another person.

Smile slowly. If you're too quick to come to a smile, your expression may not look genuine.Real smiles happen gradually, but remember not to do it too slowly because it can also look creepy._37_

_38_When you're nervous or excited, your voice may come out in a higher pitch.Take a deep breath and lower your pitch, because a deeper voice is considered to have more authority and confidence. In fact, even dogs respond better to deeper voices when you are trying to give them a command.

Make eye contact._39_Don't go overboard and gaze without breaking eye contact, because that can make people feel uncomfortable.Spend the majority of the time making eye contact, but remember to briefly take breaks.

Lean.Move your body slightly forward toward the person you're talking to._40_However,if you want to show that you're relaxed, lean back a little bit.Don't overdo the leaning or it may either look like you have no idea of what personal space is if you lean forward too much or make you look uninterested and uppity if you lean too far back.

A.Have good posture.

B.Speak in a deeper voice.

C.This reflects interest.

D.Do your best to imitate a natural smile by practicing in the mirror.

E.It can make a difference and even make you more likeable.

F.When talking to someone, making eye contact shows interest and also confidence.

G.It can make you look less professional and less confident and enthusiastic.

How can I carry out a group project?

Group projects can be so overwhelming (是人不知所措的), especially when people don’t cooperate and follow through. “  36   To follow this wise advice from expert Julie Hochheiser IIkovich, simply break down that hug project into smaller jobs that can be tracked. Here’s exactly how to do it:

List it. The day the project is assigned, immediately identify the end goal.   37  This should include everything from minor tasks to major ones.

Schedule it.   38   This should include meetings, tasks, and deadlines. Assign each person a color and highlight each task with those colors, so it’s clear who is doing what.

Track it. As a team, decide on a project manager who will keep everyone on track, and who you agree is allowed to call team members out if they’re not hardworking. (Advice on how to choose:   39    )

As stressful as group work is, it can actually be beneficial in the long run. At first, groups that work well together can achieve much more than individuals working on their own. And being part of a team will help you develop your interpersonal skills. Also, working with others will help identify your own strengths and weaknesses.  ___40

A. Give feedback on group processes to groups

B. Then list what needs to get done to accomplish it

C. Look for the person with the most organized desk!

D. A half-hour of planning saves a week of stress at the end!

E. Create a timetable for the project and put everything from the list on it.

F. This sense about yourself will be invaluable when you enter the workforce.

G. Group projects can help people develop new approaches to solving problems.

When we hear of dangerous diseases, cancer and heart disease are often what first comes to mind. Recently, a virus called Ebola has reappeared in Guinea (a country in West Africa), killing 62 people so far. It leads to viral hemorrhagic fever, which is characterized by high fever and internal bleeding etc. Ebola can kill 90% of those infected, especially in underdeveloped societies like those in Africa.

Ebola is named after the Ebola River, where it was first discovered in 1976. There are five different types of the Ebola virus, each named after where they first happened: Sudan, Ivory Coast, Reston, Bundibugyo, and Zaire. The deadliest of the five, Zaire, was responsible for the 2012 outbreak, and is believed to be attacking Guinea.

Ebola is naturally found in fruit bats (果蝠), which pass on the virus to other animals by biting or sucking on (吮吸) their blood. Humans who are suffering from the Ebola infection might have touched the bodily fluids of the infected animals. Once infected, a human becomes a carrier of the deadly virus.

Since we live in an interconnected world, where the situation in one country can affect us all, the influences of Ebola are huge: damaging trade relations, affecting foreign visitors, and weakening entire countries. Already the Guinea virus is spreading fast with a few cases spotted in Conakry — the capital of Guinea, far away from the origin of the virus. It is feared that the disease may have already reached neighboring Liberia and Sierra Leone, too.

Unfortunately, there are no disease-specific treatments for Ebola. Healthcare workers only supply the infected people with water to keep them in good condition. Since there have been many cases of nurses catching the disease from patients, they are forced to wear strict protective clothes, and in some cases, not even allowed to get close to the affected. The fact that there is no cure for the Ebola virus is what makes the outbreak a challenging one to control.

My name is Jake. I’m brown, and rather short, standing just a little past my master’s knees. My friend Andy once took me to a dog show. I’ve never seen so many different-looking dogs in my life! They all looked pretty and handsome, and their masters were very proud of them when they jumped and ran across so many barriers at that dog show. Andy promised that he’d let me join a dog show, too, if the organizers opened a division for my “breed”.

While I was watching that show, I remembered my friends at the pound(走失猫狗的待领处), where I spent two long weeks. We were kept in cages, and although we were well-fed, every day during those two weeks, I hoped to have someone touch my head and play with me.

You could just imagine how glad I was when, one day, Andy came in with his dad and pointed in my direction. I stood up on my hind legs and did a little jig (一种快步舞), and then I wagged my tail and tried to chase it. The father and his son kept laughing at what I was trying to do, and in a few minutes, I was riding on their car on the way to my new home. I was Mr. Archer’s gift for Andy’s eighth birthday. I heard him shout that I was the best gift ever!

My favorite amusement is hanging my tongue out of the car window and letting the wind blow on my face. I just love long drives! It is during these times that I think of all my friends whom I left behind at the dog pound. I hope that soon, little boys or girls would also pick them and give them new homes, so they would be able to enjoy walks in the park and trips to the beach, as I do now.

26. Why didn’t Jake join the dog show?

A. Because he wasn’t handsome enough.

B. Because his “breed” was not included.

C. Because Andy didn’t allow him to join in.

D. Because he couldn’t jump and run across barriers.

27. What can we learn about Jake when he was at the pound?

A. He couldn’t get enough food.           B. He couldn’t enjoy full freedom.

C. He had to stand all the time.            D. He was satisfied with his life.

28. Why did Mr. Archer come to the pound that day?

A. To donate some food.         B. To volunteer at the pound

C. To find his son a gift.         D. To spend his holiday

29. According to the last paragraph, what wish does Jake have?

A. Having more long drives with Andy.

B. Meeting his friends at the pound again.

C. More boys and girls coming to play with him.

D. His friends at the pound being adopted.

30. What did Jake feel after it got a new home?

A. happy        B. terrible         C. dissatisfactory      D. blue

Researchers have created a backpack that has a computer and medicines in it that can help even untrained soldiers save the lives of wounded troops. Wounded soldiers have a better chance of survival if they get help soon after being hurt and are quickly taken to a hospital or clinic. But soldiers who do not have medical training may not know how to help their injured friends.

Doctors and engineers have developed what they call an “intelligent backpack”. It has a computer and electronic measuring devices. The backpack also has robotic instruments and medicines ready to give to injured troops.

About 16 doctors and engineers from the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University and several other places are working on the project. The U. S. Department of Defense has given money to the project.

Ron Poropatich leads the project. He is a retired army surgeon. He says the backpack will help soldiers care for those who are injured. The devices included in the backpack can monitor a person’s heart rate and blood pressure. The robotic instruments can even tell whether the soldier has a collapsed lung.

Beliefs form a big part of our lives. Successful people have always believed that they can be and will be successful in their lives, such as Michael Phelps. Many of us have seen Michael Phelps win 8 gold medals in a single Olympic Games. That has created a history for himself. Many people have admired his success and the first reaction in their mind will be, “Wow, how I wish I could be like him!” Have you ever wondered what brought him success?
In fact, anyone can achieve what they have wanted to achieve. It is about beliefs. Everyone is a born winner. It is this belief that drives an individual to be successful in his or her own field. All successful individuals have strong beliefs and it is one of the bases for their success. If we start to believe in ourselves, the things that we can achieve will definitely give us a pleasant surprise.
Other than having a strong belief, it is the attitude that drives the individual to create their own history. The devotion towards themselves and the drive must also be present. Imagine having a strong belief in oneself and having a poor attitude towards life. Then how would that individual turn out to be? One’s attitude comprises the drive, the devotion and the desire to achieve his goals. If one has strong beliefs about the goals that he can achieve and he displays good attitudes towards them, it would be no surprise to anyone that he will be able to achieve his goals.
Start believing in yourself and you will achieve your goals and with the right positive attitude, you will definitely be able to create the miracle that you have always dreamt of.

Without proper planning, tourism can cause problems. For example, too many tourists can crowd public places that are also enjoyed by the inhabitants(居民) of a country. If tourists create too much traffic, the inhabitants become angry and unhappy. They begin to dislike tourists and to treat them impolitely. They forget how much tourism can help the countrys economy. It is important to think about the people of a destination(目的地) country and how tourism affects them. Tourism should help a country keep the customs and beauty that attract tourists. Tourism should also advance health and happiness of local inhabitants.

Too much tourism can be a problem. If tourism grows too quickly, people must leave other jobs to work in the tourism industry. This means that other parts of the country’s economy can suffer.

On the other hand, if there is not enough tourism, people can lose jobs. Businesses can also lose money. It costs a great deal of money to build large hotels, airports, first-class roads, and other support facilities(设施) needed by tourist attractions. For example, a major international-class tourist hotel can cost as much as 50 thousand dollars per room to build. If this room is not used most of the time, the owners of the hotel lose money.

Building a hotel is just a beginning. There must be many support facilities as well, including roads to get to the hotel, electricity, sewers(阴沟) to handle waste, and water. All of these support facilities cost money. If they are not used because there are not enough tourists, jobs and money are lost.

33. Which of the following has most probably been discussed in the paragraph that goes before the passage?

A. It is not important to develop tourism. B. Building roads and hotels is important.

C. Support facilities are highly necessary.     D. Planning is of great importance to tourism.

34. Too much tourism can cause all these problems except _____.

A. a bad effect on other industries     B. a change of the customs of the country

C. air and water pollution          D. pressure on traffic

35. Not enough tourism can lead to _____.

A. the fact that some people may be out of work     B. an increase in tourist attractions

C. the higher cost of support facilities            D. a rise in price and a fall in pay
