The first part of a new science-fiction series( 系 列 剧 )was shown on NBC last night. Star Trek is about a spacecraft(宇宙飞船)which travels faster than the speed of light. The show is developed from three ideas about the 22nd century. First, well find other life forms in our galaxy.(星系)Second, we won't fight with these aliens. And third, we'll have great tools which will make amazing things possible.
Let's think about these predictions. If we find life forms on other planets, will they be intelligent I hope so. But we human beings might not be friendly – I don't think we'll believe in the idea of peace one hundred years from now. But this is science fiction, so we can be optimistic! And Star Trek's idea of life in the future is 'communicators'. And we will be able to have conversations with people who are on because you'll have an electronic notebook. And if you get ill, the doctor won't have to examine you – a machine will 'read' your body. The strangest machine includes a 'teleport' which will take people to a different place in a second!
The ideas are interesting, and in my opinion there's only one problem with star trek: the acting. The TV company(公司)will have to get better actors. If they do that, the show might be a success. If the acting doesn't improve, Star Trek won't last for more than one series. Of course, my prediction may be wrong. I can't see into the future!
【1】What is Star Trek?
A. A TV play. B. A popular song. C. A spacecraft. D. An alien.
【2】What does the underlined word "optimistic" mean?
A. Lucky and happy. B. Hopeful and confident.
C. Helpful and creative. D. Thankful and popular.
【3】What's the writer's opinion about Star Trek?
A. The life forms on other planets are stupid.
B. Interesting ideas make a new series popular.
C. The new series might not be successful without better actors.
D. The actors are interesting.
【4】Which would be the best title for the passage
A. Aliens on Other Planets. B. The Idea of Human Life.
C. A Science Fiction. D. A New Series about Future.

"Life's a long, long journey( 旅 程 )" so we are told, and most of us would not set off on a journey, even a short one, without some ideas of where we wanted to go. Yet many people travel on life's journey with no sense of direction at all.
Setting personal goals can give your life a sense of direction. Goal setting is used by top sports players, successful business people and achievers in all fields. Before you set personal goals, think about what you want to achieve with your life. Try to set goals in some of the following categories.
Education—Will you achieve the educational goals after finishing high-school? Are you still growing and learning?
Family—What kind of relationship(关系)do you want with your parents and other family members?
Creative—Do you want to achieve any artistic goals?
Career—What job do you want to take when you grow up? What do you need to make your dream come true?
Public Service—Do you want to make the world a better place?
Physical—Are you fit enough to do the things you want to do?
Pleasure—How do you want to enjoy yourself?
Write down the goals and think about them carefully. Are they realistic? When will you be able to achieve them?
To help make the process(过程)more manageable, divide your goals into smaller tasks. For example, if you want to reach a main goal in five years, set a three-year goal, a one-year goal, a three-month goal and a one- month goal. Then create a daily To-Do List of things that you should do today. When a goal is achieved, take the time to enjoy your success. This helps you build self-confidence.
Remember, your goals can change as time goes on. But be sure your goals are things you hope to achieve, not what your parents, family or teachers want.
【1】Is life a long journey according to the passage?
【2】Why do you need to set your life goals?
【3】What should you consider when you set a family goal?
【4】How can we achieve the main goal easily?
【5】What does the writer want to tell us?
