Mosquitos(蚊子) can cause us serious diseases. Until now, we’ve used different things to keep them away. But none of these ways actually protect us for more than 20 minutes! Now there is a new way to keep mosquitos away from you ever again without using any chemicals at all.
What is it all about?
It’s called the Mosquitron—a new mosquito catcher or killer. It’s very easy to control and it can protect your home from all the mosquitos!
How does it work?
Instead of trying to keep the mosquitos away, it attracts them, then catches them and finally kills them! Basically, it will attract the mosquitos into the Mosquitron, with a completely harmless UV-PT producing light. Next to the UV-PT light is a powerful reverse (反向的)fan that sucks(吸) the mosquitos through a one way trapdoor. Once they are trapped in the drying basket, they are dried to death by the fan in 2 minutes.
How much does it cost?
You’d be surprised to find that you can get it right now for just $89. It might seem ex-pensive at first. However, when you compare it with other products which need regular, ex-pensive repair and don’t work for more than 10 minutes, it is pretty cheap. In fact, some products using the same UV technology are priced over $250!
How to buy Mosquitron?
That’s very easy. You can only buy it from the supplier’s website.
【1】Why should we stay away from mosquitos according to the text?
A.They produce much noise. B.They can cause serious diseases.
C.They pollute the environment. D.They can make dangerous chemicals.
【2】How does the Mosquitron clear mosquitos?
A.By watering them in a basket. B.By attracting and killing them.
C.By burying them with hot sand. D.By giving off strong and harmful light.
【3】Where does the author advise buying a Mosquitron?
A.In restaurant. B.In a computer store. C.On the website. D.In a supermarket.

Shortly before Christmas last year, one of Brazilian pianists Joao Carlos Martins invited his friends to a bar near his home. He wanted to show them the best gift he had received: a new pair of gloves. They are not just any gloves, however. The special bionic devices(仿生设备)let the 79-year-old pianist play with both hands for the first time in more than 20 years.
By his retirement(退休) last March, Martins had received 24 medical operations to try to reduce pain caused by a disease and from a series of accidents. Before the gloves, which were especially developed for him, Martins could only play songs slowly with his thumbs and, sometimes, his pointer fingers.
However, one designer believed Martins’ retirement had come too early. The designer, Ubirata Bizarro Costa, created special bionic gloves for Martins’ hands. The gloves help move his fingers up after they press(按) on the piano keys. Costa said he created early models based on images of Martins’ hands, but he said those models were not good. He then decided to tell Martins about his work. Costa and Martins then spent several months testing several kinds of models. Finally, the perfect model came in December, and cost only $125.
These days, Martins never takes off his new gloves, even when he goes to sleep. Martins said, “I have received more than 100 devices in the last 50 years. None of those devices worked well or long enough, but these gloves do.”
The new gloves have given Martins a new goal. He hopes to play the piano at New York’s Carnegie Hall in October. He is already set to conduct a concert celebrating the 60th anniversary of his first appearance there.
【1】What do we know about Martins?
A.He hates playing the piano in bar.
B.He has been fired by a music company.
C.He has received the best present in his life.
D.He often discusses with his friends about music.
【2】What caused the pianist’s pain?
A.A failed operation. B.His friend’s death.
C.The new pair of gloves. D.A disease and some accidents.
【3】How did Costa and Martins create the perfect bionic gloves?
A.By testing different models. B.By pressing Martins’s fingers.
C.By examining Costa’s hands. D.By working with other companies
【4】What does Martins think of the special pair of gloves?
A.They are useless. B.They are frightening.
C.They are strange. D.They are satisfying.

A new study shows that the increased heat from Arctic (北极的)rivers is making sea ice in the Arctic Ocean gradually disappear. The study published this week in Science Advance was led by the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology, together with other scientists in the United States, United Arab Emi rates , Finland and Canada.
According to the research, the main Arctic rivers bring more heat to the Arctic Ocean than they did in 1980. River heat is one of the reasons that cause sea ice loss of the Arctic Ocean. That loss is equal to about 120,000 square miles of 1-mcter thick ice. "If Alaska were covered by 1-meter thick icc. 20% of Alaska would be gone," explained Igor Polyakov, a re- searcher at the University of Alaska Fairbanks' International Arctic Research Center.
Rivers have the greatest influence during spring. The wanning water pours into the ice covered Arctic Ocean and spreads below the ice, slowly destroying it. Once the sea ice melts(融化), the warm water makes the temperature go up. The research found that much more river heat energy entered the air. Since air is mobile, this means river heat can influence areas of the Arctic far from river deltas (三角洲).
The influence was the most prominent in the Siberian Arctic, where several large rivers go into the Arctic Ocean. Canada's Mackenzie River is the only river large enough to contribute to sea ice meh near Alaska, but the state's smaller rivers are also a source of heat.
Polyakov says that rising global air temperatures will continue to warm Arctic rivers in the future. As rivers heat up, more warm water will flow into the Arctic Ocean, melting more sea ice,
【1】What does the increased heat from Arctic rivers cause?
A.Dry weather in the Arctic.
B.A strange disease in the Arctic.
C.The gradual loss of sea ice in the Arctic Ocean.
D.The death of fish in the Arctic Ocean.
【2】What can we learn from paragraph 2?
A.Alaska will disappear.
B.There's more and more sea ice in the Arctic Ocean.
C.10% of sea ice in the Arctic Ocean melts each day.
D.Arctic rivers bring more heat to the Arctic Ocean.
【3】What does the underlined word "prominent" in paragraph 4 mean?
A.Obvious. B.Important. C.Famous. D.Generous.
【4】What is the best title for the text?
A.Arctic Rivers Will Disappear
B.Arctic Rivers Are Melting Arctic Sea Ice
C.Arctic Rivers Will Create a New River Delta
D.Arctic Rivers Bring More Sea Animals to the Arctic Ocean

Facebook has developed a kind of Al (人工智能), translating between any pair of 100 languages without depending on first translating to English.
Facebook 's system was trained on a data (数据)set of 7. 5 billion sentence pairs collected from the web across 100 languages though not all the languages had an equal number of sentence pairs. "What I was really interested in was cutting out English as a middle man. Globally there are plenty of countries where they speak two languages that aren't English,“ says Angela Fan of Facebook Al who led the work.
For some language pairs, the new system shows obvious improvements in translation quality. For example, translating from Spanish to Portuguese is extremely strong because Spanish is the second-most spoken first language worldwide, meaning the researchers can get a lot of data. Translation between English and Belarusian also is improved because the Al can translate Russian into English, which shares similarities with Belarusian.
While the system isn’t in use on the social network site. Facebook plans to put it to work soon to manage the 20 billion translations made every day when people click “Translate" on posts (帖子))written in more than 160 languages. "Future work will be done on other language,” says Fan "especially for languages where we don't have a lot of data, like South-East Asian and African languages. "
The work “breaks away from the English-centric models and tries to build more different models", says Sheila Castilho of the ADAPT Centre at Dublin City University. Ireland. “Thai's pretty new and different. But it's hard to know if the Al does a right translation work,” says Castilho. "The users may not know the other language, so they cannot judge the correctness of the translation. "
【1】What's Angela Fan's purpose of making the research?
A.To collect data of all kinds of people.
B.To avoid using English as a middle man in translation.
C.To achieve her dream of becoming a translator.
D.To make learning different languages easier.
【2】Why is it easy to translate from Spanish to Portuguese by Al?
A.Portuguese is similar to Spanish.
B.Spanish is spoken by the largest number of people.
C.Researchers have a good knowledge of the two languages.
D.There is much data on Spanish.
【3】What is Castilho worried about?
A.The safety of Al translation. B.The way of using Facebook.
C.The correctness of Al translation. D.The number of posts on the website.
【4】What is the text mainly about?
A.Facebook Al can translate any pair of 100 languages.
B.Facebook wants to buy a new system.
C.Facebook Al can talk with the users.
D.Face book has lost many users.
