I was driving my newly acquired motorcycle across the vastness of North Dakota when all of the sudden it froze up on the road. I would later be told the belt had slipped and this caused one of the pistons(活塞) to crack a cylinder (气缸) head, or something like that.
Anyway, I sat on the side of the road for what seemed like hours. I even pretended to have been in an accident, which didn't help. Finally, a young man pulled over and offered me a ride, but given that he already had two motorcycles in the back of his truck, he could only take me.
He drove me to the next town, where I asked to be dropped off. Rather than drop me off, he waited while I asked around if anyone could help me to pick up my motorcycle. One elderly gentleman was working and said that I could use his pickup! Can you imagine that a stranger gave me the keys to his pickup. It was quite an experience, I must say. So, as I drove back 20 miles to get my motorcycle, the gentleman who first stopped to help me followed me. We both put the motorcycle in the back of the truck, and then I followed him another 50 miles or so and we both unloaded the motorcycle at his place. Then, he followed me back to the small town so I could return the man's truck. I didn't have much cash on me, maybe $40, but I gave it to the man for the use of his truck.
Two strangers helped rescue me from spending the night on the side of the road in ND. I don't recall their names, but when I close my eyes I can see their faces as if it were yesterday. Thank you, strangers. You may be reading this right now.

Astronomers have taken the first ever image of a black hole, which is located in a distant galaxy. The black hole is 500 million trillion km away and was photographed by a network of eight telescopes across the world. It was captured by the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT).
The announcement was made in Washington, Brussels, Santiago, Shanghai, Taipei and Tokyo. Details have been published today in Astrophysical Journal Letters.
Prof Heino Falcke, of Radboud University in the Netherlands, who proposed the experiment, told BBC News that the black hole was found in a galaxy called M87. "What we see is larger than the size of our entire Solar System," he said. "It has a mass 6.5 billion times that of the Sun. And it is one of the heaviest black holes that we think exists. It is an absolute monster, the heavyweight champion of black holes in the Universe."
The image shows an intensely bright "ring of fire", as Prof Falcke describes it, surrounding a perfectly circular dark hole. The bright halo is caused by very heated gas falling into the hole. The light is brighter than all the billions of other stars in the galaxy combined—which is why it can be seen at such distance from Earth. The edge of the dark circle at the center is the point at which the gas enters the black hole, which is an object that has such a large gravitational pull, not even light can escape.
"It is remarkable that the image we observe is so similar to that which we get from our theoretical calculations. So far, it looks like Einstein is correct once again." said Dr Ziri Younsi, of University College London—who is part of the EHT collaboration.
Chinese scientists were involved in the observation through a telescope in Hawaii. They were also highly involved in follow-up data processing and theoretical analysis, said Shen Zhiqiang, head of the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Shanghai Astronomical Observatory and a member of the EHT international team.
Shanghai and Taipei were selected as two of the cities to hold news conferences, together with Washington, Brussels, Santiago and Tokyo, a recognition of China's contribution.
"In the fields of astronomy, radio astronomy, and space astrophysics, China has made a significant contribution to this global project," Falcke said.
【1】Which is the best title for the passage?
A.First Image of a Black Hole Taken B.How Einstein Discovered a Black Hole
C.How a Black Hole Is formed D.A Book about Black Holes
【2】What does the underlined word in Para.4 mean?
A.a circle of light B.saying hello to somebody
C.not having much distance D.a hole in something
【3】The announcement was NOT made in .
A.Taipei B.Hawaii C.Shanghai D.Santiago
【4】Which is the role played by Chinese scientists in the experiment?
A.Starting the experiment B.Leading the experiment
C.Just processing the data D.Playing an important part
【5】From Paragraphs 3 and 4 what can we learn about the black hole?
A.The light of its ring is as bright as all the other stars in the galaxy.
B.Its large gravitational pull is so powerful that not even light can escape.
C.It has a mass 6.5 billion times that of the Moon.
D.It is one of the lightest black holes that exists.

LEO YAO thought he had nothing to fear from the environment ministry. Before, when its inspectors visited his factory, he says, they produced “loud thunder, little rain”. After warning him to clean up, they would, at worst, impose an insignificant fine. Not so this time. In August dozens of inspectors got to his workshop in Tianjin, just east of Beijing, and ordered production to be stopped. His doors remain shut today. If he wants to go on making knives and forks, he has been told that he must move to more modern facilities in a less populated area.
For years the government has vowed (发誓) to go green, yet made little progress. But in the past few months it has taken a harder line and pressed on with pollution controls, hitting coalminers, cement-makers, paper mills, chemical factories and more.
Tens of thousands of companies have been forced to close. In the region around Beijing this winter, the government has ordered steel mills to cut output. A possible explanation is that the economic impact is falling behind the pollution controls. Another is that China may be able to raise its environmental standards without paying a high price.
One thing is clear: China’s shift on pollution is real. True, some extreme measures are temporary (暂时的), especially those aimed at keeping Beijing’s sky blue this winter. But many others will be lasting. As part of a“war on pollution” declared in 2014, China has detailed targets for cleaning up its air, water and soil. On January1st it introduced an environmental-protection tax, replacing pollution fees. Last month it began a market for trading carbon emissions (碳排放), which will be the world’s largest. Most importantly, the environment ministry, previously a political weakling, has great power at last. Besides fining companies, inspectors have punished some 18,000 officials for they were lazy at the work over pollution.
The blue sky is around the corner.
