Building a better tree house —
TREEHOTEL HARADS, SWEDEN
Tree houses aren’t generally equal to splendor(壮丽). But the seven cabins at Sweden’s Treehotel could easily give The Swiss Family Robinson a run for its money. To begin with, the outside is extraordinary: one resembles a UFO, another resembles a bird’s nest, and the bottom of the latest cabin — named the 7th Room — features a life –size photograph of the canopy(天蓬似的树荫) view. Inside, the cabins are equipped with fashionable, minimalist furniture and comfortable lounge areas. Although some guests may have to travel to a separate facility to shower, fans argue that that’s a small sacrifice to make for a one-of-a-kind camping experience.

An ancient forest reborn —
AMANYANGYUN, SHANGHAI
When Chinese businessman Ma Dadong discovered that a forest of ancient camphor trees would be destroyed in China’s Jiangxi Province, he undertook a mission to relocate thousands of them to the outskirts of Shanghai — 700 km away — where they now surround 24 Ming Dynasty style suites and several villas (别墅) at Amanyangyun, which opened in January, 2018. It also nods to the past, making use of recycled wood and brick from centuries –old homes. Facilities include a club lounge, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a spa and a variety of luxurious dining spaces, including a 200 – seat banquet hall. Calligraphy (书法) lessons and tea ceremonies are available to help guests feel part of “this monumental story”.

【1】What does the author say about the Treehotel?
A.It is a seven-story building. B.It has an in-built shower.
C.It has unique design features. D.It is expensively decorated inside.
【2】What can guests do in Amanyangyun?
A.Attend a fitness class. B.Pick tea leaves themselves.
C.Learn the history of the Ming Dynasty. D.Admire ancient Chinese architecture.
【3】From which is the text probably taken?
A.An exhibition review B.A travel website.
C.A hotel comment. D.An official report.

On Wednesday, January 13th, I performed on stage for the first time. As someone who takes part in so many activities, it’s extremely difficult to find the time to be a part of any production. For me, it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to try acting through the Senior Play Project.
Auditions (试镜)came first. They weren’t particularly difficult, more to see who may be a better fit tor certain roles. We were told our roles in the various plays, and started to work immediately.
I was unsure of how I was as an actor, and I had to learn a lot fast: actions, my place in the story, my reactions, and countless other small details... As I began to improve as an actor, I was able to understand my characters better.
My first character is a man named Roger who is a senior advisor to a presidential candidate in a play called “The Spot.” He’s a short-tempered guy who says what he wants and takes what he wants to assist his candidate in today’s tough political races. He’s on the set of The Spot, an advertisement for the candidate, to make sure everything runs smoothly and that any problems are dealt with quickly and efficiently.
While I had really interesting characters, and the plays were funny and such a great experience to act in, I really love the Senior Play Project for the people. I worked with 12 other seniors who not only loved what they were doing, but offered help and advice throughout my entire learning process.
Between the lights, sounds, costume and makeup, and plenty more, theatre is a team sport just like basketball or baseball. There are no small parts; there is no one who isn’t needed. I’ve learned to appreciate live theatre, and the effort that every person in the show, both onstage and offstage, puts into it.
【1】How did the author feel about being in the project?
A.Lucky. B.Tired.
C.Nervous. D.Confident.
【2】What do we know about the character Roger?
A.He means what he says. B.He puts up an advertisement.
C.He gives advice to the candidate. D.He is running for president.
【3】What does the author like most about the project?
A.The people. B.The plays.
C.The characters. D.The costume.
【4】What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.The Senior Play Project. B.Acting for the First Time.
C.What Makes a Good Actor. D.A Lesson Learnt through Acting.

Wait for it...that sigh of relief you are hearing is wives, girlfriends and partners across London celebrating the end of Movember.
This year’s annual moustache-growing campaign in London will surpass (超过) 2014 fundraising numbers.
Last year London men grew enough facial hair to raise $ 200, 000. As of Thursday 2015 fundraising sat at $250,000 with additional money still expected to roll in.
“Well I think London is a pretty charitable community” said Lincoln McCardle president of the London chapter. “Whether it is a food drive or Movember we always step up and either meet or surpass the goal.”
As a result of last year’s success London was awarded a wrap-up gala (演出) which took place Thursday night at Jim Bob Ray’s on Richmond Street.
“Up until now the galas have been happening in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Calgary” said McCandle. “We wanted to have a gala. I told the guys in head office in Toronto to pick a number - not to tell me - but if we hit it I want a gala in London. And we did. It is a chance to thank the people who registered, hand out a few awards and have some fun.”
This year 60 percent of the money collected in Canada will still go to cancer research with the remaining 40 percent being directed towards men’s mental health.
For men looking for a professional to take off their month-long growth there are a number of “shave-off” events around the city Friday. One will be at David E. White at the corner of Richmond Street and Queens Avenue. For a $20 donation your prized moustache will be professionally removed. Organizers are hoping to set a Guinness World Record for the most number of shaves given in a day.
Started in Australia in 2003 the craze (热潮) found its way to Canadian men by 2007 and in the last couple of years Canada has collected more setting the pace in terms of fundraising. Money raised has traditionally gone toward prostate-cancer research which is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in men according to Health Canada.
【1】What can we learn about the people in London?
A.They are wealthy. B.They are creative.
C.They are indifferent. D.They are warm-hearted.
【2】What’s the aim of moustache-growing campaign?
A.To have a wrap-up gala. B.To raise money for men’s health.

A.Taking the lead. B.Achieving the goal.

When we look at a lovely baby, a puppy or a really cute kitten many of us want to squeeze it. Why is that?
According to a study published in the journal Frontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience, it’s a typical experience of “cute aggression”. The experience results from the fight between the brain’s “emotion system”, which impels (驱使) people to squeeze cute things, and its “reward system” which deals with feelings of “wanting”.
In the study, 54 participants between the ages of 18 and 40 were presented with four groups of photos. Two of the groups of photos were of cute human babies and animals and the other two were of less adorable adult humans and animals. As the participants looked at the photos, there searchers watched their brain activities.
According to the researchers, the participants reward systems were found to be active as they looked at the cute babies, and they seemed to be overwhelmed(征服的). By contrast, the reward systems of the people looking at the less cute adults were found to be inactive, and they seemed to be less impelled by their reward systems.
This suggests that cute things activate their emotion systems in such a way that people are overwhelmed by the experience of cuteness. But reward systems work against these emotions by creating the desire to protect cute things.
As Katherine Stavropoulos, the lead researcher of this study at the University of California in the US told Science Alert, “The cute aggression is the brain’s way of ‘bringing us back down’ by balancing our feelings of being overwhelmed.”
Stavropoulos compared this process of balancing to an evolutionary adaptation. Such an adaptation may have taken place to ensure that people are able to continue taking care of creatures they consider particularly cute.
So, although cute babies and adorable animals may look completely helpless, their vulnerable( 易受伤害的) appearance may in fact help them to survive.
【1】According to the text, “cute aggression” refers to .
A.the emotion of wanting to protect cute things
B.the task of emotion system and reward system

【2】In nature, “cute aggression” is caused by .
A.the need of the brain to balance all feelings
B.the photos of cute human babies and animals
C.the vulnerable appearance of babies or animals
D.the conflict between emotion system and reward system
【3】Which of the following statements about the study is TRUE?
A.Facial expressions of the participants were observed.
B.Katherine Stavropoulos conducted this study on her own.
C.Cute babies and animals affected brain activities of all the participants.
D.The participants were divided into two groups in order to make comparison.
【4】What is the author's purpose in writing this text?
A.To persuade readers to protect cute animals.
B.To stress the significance of cute aggression.
C.To present research findings on cute aggression.
D.To share an interesting phenomenon with readers

Some people put their bicycles away once they learn how to drive a car. For many people, bicycling is not just an easy way of getting around town but also an exciting sport. 【1】.
One kind of race is the time trial. Each racer leaves the starting line at a different time and heads hard for the finish line. The cyclist who covers the distance in the shortest amount of time wins the race. 【2】, because the bicycles are spread out and are not likely to run into each other.
Another kind of race is more difficult. A few city blocks are closed to traffic. Then all the racers line up in a tight pack and begin racing at the same time. 【3】. The race requires more than speed. It also requires skillful handling of the bicycle as it runs at full speed around other bicycles. The racer who completes all the laps first is the winner.
【4】. Racers have to cover anywhere from 35 miles to almost 3,000 miles. The race course may be a straight stretch of road or a long series of roads across the country. The prize goes to the first person who crosses the finish line.
Between races cyclists stay in condition by doing exercise that builds their strength so that they can keep riding for long periods of time. 【5】 , they often join bicycling groups and become licensed racers. One morning as usual my father woke me up to go to school. I didn’t want to, so I pretend to be ill. He worriedly asked me to lie down, drink some water or have a good rest. My father was so easy cheated, which surprised with me. He even read my favorite storybooks to me. Finishing one storybook, he went out to fetch another. What good chance! I rose from the bed and began to jump. I jumped so happily to notice my father had already come in. Though he stood there silently, I felt embarrassed and quickly ran to school, carried my schoolbag. I once wondered that my father could be taken in by my stupid lie. It was no doubt that my father’s deep love explained all.
