On a hot evening in September, the Highland High School team was pronouncing to win its first game of the season. "I was really excited," said Highlanders' linebacker Ryan Ferrini. "This was the game when it finally came together." With several seconds left in the fourth quarter and the Tompkins High School team up 29—28, all the Highlanders had to do was go one yard for a touchdown to seize a dramatic come-from-behind victory.
On the previous play, after the Highlanders had driven the ball deep into the Tompkins' territory (防守区), quarterback Will Gentry had connected with receiver Austin Brauweiler at the three-yard line. As Brauweiler turned upfield, a Tompkins' defender delivered a hit, knocking them both to the ground at the one-yard line.
“There was a huge force, as if a truck had hit me,” said Brauweiler, who suffered from the collision (撞击). But it was the Tompkins' player who got the worst of it. He lay still on the ground and a doctor had been called. That's when the Tompkins' coach walked across the field and told Highlanders coach Colschen that his players were too upset to finish the game and they would lose the game.
“In life, the well-being of others is what's important, not the scoreboard,” said Colschen. He gathered his Highlanders and told them it was time to support their grieving(悲伤的) competitors. They agreed.
After the injured player was airlifted to a hospital, the two teams took the field again. The Highland team's teammates took a knee and didn't start any action, only waiting to the game clock hit zero. Game over.
“What my players did was amazing,” said Colschen. "I was surprised and encouraged that they were thinking not about themselves but about others."

It’s reported that scientists in London have found the best diet for both humans and the planet.
If the world followed the so-called “planetary health” diet, each year more than ll million early deaths could be avoided according to the scientists. For the health of the planet, they say the same diet will reduce (减少) greenhouse gases and save more land, water and animals. This new food plan is the result of a three-year project organized by The Lancet health journal.
Tim Lang, a professor at Britain’s University of London. He said, “The food we eat and how we produce it decide the health of people and the planet.” Lang added, The world’s population is expected to grow to 10 billion people by 2050. If we want to feed everyone, we all need to change what we eat and the way we eat by improving food production and reducing food waste”. So, what do you eat on the “planetary health” diet?
The scientists who created the “planetary health” diet say it is largely plant-based but still has a little milk, fish and meat. The diet calls for cutting down red meat and sugar by 50 percent and increasing nuts, fruits, and vegetable.
Walter Willet of Harvard University in the United States also talked about the “planetary health” diet. He said, “More than 800 million people around the world do not get enough food while many more people have very unhealthy diets.”
The scientists think it difficult to reach their aim. But for them, doing nothing is also not a choice Willet said, “If we can’t make the best diet, it’s better to try and get as close as we can.”

What will man be like in the future? How about in 5,000 0r even 50,000 years from now? We can only make a guess, of course, but we can be sure that he will be different from what he is today. 【1】
Let's give an example. Man, even 500 years ago, was shorter than he is today. Now, on the average, men are about three inches taller. 500 years is a relatively short period of time, so we may guess that man will continue to grow taller. Again, in the modern world we use our brains a great deal. Even so, we still make use of only about 20% of the brain's capacity(容量). As time goes on, however, we shall have to use our brains more and more---and finally we shall need even larger ones! 【2】 The head, in particular the forehead, will grow larger.
【3】 In fact, we use them so much that very often they become weaker and we have to wear glasses. But over a very long period of time it is likely that man’s eyes will grow stronger. On the other hand, we tend to make less use of our arms and legs. 【4】 At the same time, however, our fingers will grow more sensitive because they are used a great deal in modern life.
But what about hair? It will probably disappear from the body altogether in course of time because it does not serve a useful purpose any longer. In the future, then, both sexes are likely to be bald.
Perhaps all this gives the impression that future man will not be a very attractive creature to look at! 【5】 He will still be a human being, with thoughts and emotions similar to our own.
A.Nowadays our eyes are in constant use.
B.This probably brings about mental changes.
C.These, as a result, are likely to grow weaker.
D.This is likely to bring about physical changes, too.
E.That's because man is slowly changing all the time.
F.As a result, future man will have little in common with us.
G.In spite of all these changes, future man will still have a lot in common with us.

The Butterfly in a Bottle
Poltu was wide awake in his bed. He had had a marvelous dream in which he had won the football match in the inter-school competition. He was getting ready to receive the trophy when the alarm rang, so loudly that it jarred him awake.
But Poltu wasn't too unhappy at the intrusion. He ran straight to his study table. There, in an empty jam bottle, was the treasure. A colourful little butterfly. How difficult it had been to catch it. It had kept flying away from his grasp. But catch it he did, without a net, too. And now it was going to be part of his biology project in school.
The biology project required Poltu to submit the study of a living creature every month. Most of his classmates drew diagrams from their books as part of this exercise. But Poltu was going to do something different. He was going to present a live creature --- this butterfly.
Poltu loved the different colours on the wings of the butterfly, red, green and blue. How beautiful it looked when it fluttered the wings! Poltu had made a few holes on the cap of the bottle to let air pass through, and added tender leaves for the butterfly to nibble on. He might have trapped the creature, but he cared for it.
Excited about displaying his exhibit to the biology teacher, Poltu dressed hurriedly, and left for school. His school was walking distance from his house. He took a short cut through the backyard of Sinha aunty's house, a stretch he loved walking through. The breeze was very pleasant as it had rained slightly the previous night. The garden smelt of sweet-smelling flowers, jasmine and "mogra". Poltu glanced at his bottle every now and then and smiled at the butterfly fluttering its wings.
When he reached school, the gate wasn't wholly open yet. For once Poltu was early to school. A few boys were playing football in the field. Any other day would have seen Poltu joining them without a second thought. But today, he walked straight into his class. He opened the bench window and placed the bottle on the windowsill.

Paragraph l:
The golden rays of the sun streamed through the glass, on the delicate wings of the butterfly, and added a shine to them.
Paragraph 2:
While going back home, he again took his favourite route through Sinha aunty's garden.
