    We are lucky to live in a rich country where we have many things. However, most of us usually (waste) some things.

    Electricity is one thing that we waste most. Lights, TVs, (radio) and other things are often kept on even when no one is using them. We should turn them off we do not need them. It takes   (little) than a second to do it. Anyhow, not wasting electricity saves money, because we do not have to pay for the electricity we do not use. The (two) thing that we often waste is water. Fresh water is precious, so it shouldn't be wasted. It is only a simple matter of turning a tap. I am sure everybody can do this (easy) if he wants to. Another big waste is food. My mother used to cook so much food that much of it was thrown away. I told her we had wasted so much (food). She thought I was right and now cooks mainly what we can eat.

    It is not right to be wasteful. I find there is a simple way of not wasting things. That is (use) only what we need. Do not touch what we do not need. this way, we can stop being wasteful.

    William Shakespeare was a writer of plays and poems. Some of his most famous plays are Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth. He wrote thirty-seven plays in all. They are still popular today.

    He was born in 1564 in England. At school he liked watching plays. He decided to be an actor (演员) when he finished school at the age of fourteen. In 1582, he married a farmer's daughter. She was eight years older than he was. Their first child was a daughter. Later they had twins. In 1585, Shakespeare left his hometown, Stratford-upon-Avon. His wife and children stayed behind. No one knows why he left or what he did between 1585 and 1592.

    At twenty-eight he moved to London and joined a theatre company which opened the Globe Theatre in 1599. He became an actor, and he also wrote plays. He usually acted in his own plays. He earned almost no money from his writing. But he made a lot of money from acting. With the money he bought a large house in his hometown.

    At the age of forty-nine, Shakespeare retired (退休) and went to live in Stratford-upon-Avon. He died at the age of fifty-two. He left his money to his family. He left his genius to the world. You still see his plays in English and in many other languages. He is one of the most famous writers in the world.

    Why is clean water so important to poor countries? A recent report shows that about 80 percent of diseases. in poor countries are brought by polluted water and the dirty environment. In those countries, women and girls spend several hours collecting water, but often polluted, far away from their families. The polluted water is bad for their health. Therefore, there is a great need for people in poor countries to get clean water to improve their health.

    Here is a short story about Hadjara Zakari, a 12-year-old girl in Niger. She learned about the importance of hand washing when the school first got clean water three years ago. That evening, she told her father, “You shouldn't eat with me unless you clean your hands.” Her father was very angry and shouted at her, "It's not up to you to tell me what to do!" Stunned (目瞪口呆的) , Hadjara sat quietly. But she knew she was right. In protest, Hadjara didn't eat dinner that night. After her father asked Hadjara's head teacher, he understood the importance of hand washing and his daughter's intention (目的). The girl really wanted her family to live longer and healthier lives.

    For people in developing countries, clean water can change many things, especially improve their health. So, from now on, let's avoid wasting water and take action to save water, which is important to people all over the world.
