For people in the Netherlands, April 27 is the date of the biggest party of the year — and an excuse to dress all in orange.

The King's Day celebrates the birthday of King Willem-Alexander, the current king of the Netherlands. It is the country's national day, and its people take their task of enjoying themselves very seriously.

There is even a special word in Dutch for the crazy events that happen during the festival: "oranjegekte", which means "orange madness". The color is special to Dutch people because it's the color of their country's royal family.

So what do people do to celebrate? The go-to food is herring (鲱鱼). The fish stored in salty

water and eaten with onions and pickles (腌菜) can be found at one of the many fish shops around the country.

On the day, people wear as much orange as possible. Everyone wears huge orange hats, orange dresses and fake orange hair. Even pets are dressed up in orange clothes to celebrate.

The King's Day is a day of shopping too, especially in the Netherlands' capital city. "As a city built on trade, Amsterdam loves to bargain," CNN explained. "The free market gives everyone the chance to sell their second-hand things on the streets and parks of Amsterdam, creating one of the world's largest flea markets."

Dutch people are known around the world for being laid-back and sometimes a little crazy. And the Netherlands' King's Day celebrations certainly show off this side of its people. Compare it to the birthdays of other countries' kings and queens. In the UK, for example, Queen Elizabeth II's birthday isn't usually celebrated, except for special birthdays like her 90th last year. Many people don't even know when her birthday is. In the Netherlands, however, the king or queen's birthday has long been a national excuse for a lighthearted day of orange fun.

School diversity inclusion and representation is significant in education. There are many educational benefits from introducing new thoughts on cultural differences in a classroom. Ethnicity, cultural differences, racial differences, and more are all important to talk about as part of a student's education.

There are many specific reasons why diversity is key in the classroom and schools, including: Diversity brings new perspectives (角度) into a classroom. Students of different genders, races, backgrounds, etc. bring various thoughts into a classroom. This encourages a classroom discussion and learning opportunities. It can add well-rounded views and enables students to learn more from each other. It will allow students to see things in a new light. From elementary to high school, new perspectives are important to learn at any age.

Research shows that diverse classrooms improve learning results for every student. Schools that are more diverse see no difference in test scores from schools that are less diverse. However, there is also research that shows diverse groups are better able to solve problems and work more effectively. Diverse schools also see students who are more empathetic (富有同情心的), allowing everyone to feel more safe and confident in their learning environment. No matter what age, elementary or high school, introduction to culture and racial differences can have great positive impacts on students.

More classroom diversity prepares students for their future. The world around us is increasingly culturally diverse. It's extremely likely that students will be working in a field that is incredibly diverse, and classroom diversity can help prepare students for that future. Telemedicine is the name for when doctors give advice to patients by telephone or the Internet, or when health care providers in rural areas connect with specialists in big cities. Telemedicine has existed for a long time, but the rise of smartphone, tablets and webcam-equipped computers is raising telemedicine to new levels. Some health care systems in the United States now offer Virtual Urgent Care, so patients can see a doctor by video chat without having to leave home.

Diana Rae recently showed how Virtual Urgent Care works. She used an iPad tablet and Skype— the video chat service.

Doctor Green first has the patient describe her symptoms (症状). Then the doctor performs a physical exam by showing what he wants her to do. Doctor Green decides that the problem is an infection (感染) and gives her some medicine. He says about 3 out of 4 patients who have health problems can be treated like this — through Virtual Urgent Care, which means a video chat could substitute a visit to the doctor's office.

The Franciscan Health System charges $35 for this kind of virtual house call. That is much less than the cost of going to an emergency room, a doctor's office or an urgent care clinic. After trying the video conference, Diana Rae says she would be happy to pay the 35 dollars, when she was recently home with a bad cold. "I would have paid twice that for the convenience of getting taken care of without having to sit in a waiting room, wait, and get exposed to everyone else's germs (细菌)." Rae said.

But a company official says state rules have not kept progress with development in telemedicine. The workers who provide Virtual Urgent Care must be licensed separately in each state where the company does business. For now, that means Franciscan doctors can treat patients in Washington state and California, for example, but not in neighboring Oregon or Idaho.

  1. (1) What purpose does paragraph1 serve in the passage?
A . To persuade people to use telemedicine. B . To claim the benefits of health care systems. C . To make a general introduction of telemedicine. D . To give a brief description of health care systems.
  2. (2) What does the underlined word "substitute" in paragraph2 mean?
    A . Organize. B . Replace. C . Arrange. D . Postpone.
  3. (3) What does Diana Rae think of Virtual Urgent Care?
    A . Convenient and safe. B . Flexible and sufficient. C . Time-saving but dangerous. D . Advanced but expensive.
  4. (4) Why can't Virtual Urgent Care develop fast now?
A . People don't have enough access to the health care system. B . The state rules have prevented it from developing fast. C . Some states are in badly need of Franciscan doctors. D . The workers are not permitted to get licenses.

Ways to Teach Kids How to Manage Money

As adults, we've had a lifetime to learn how to manage our money. Finance may seem like a grown-up concept. Here are ways to teach kids how to budget (预算) and value a dollar.

Firstly, help children understand that everything costs money. Your children need to know the value of their money compared to the value of the things they'd like to buy. When they want a new toy, point out the cost and remind them how much they have to spend. Take the money from their jar, bring it to the store, and hand it to the cashier. They'll clearly see their amount of money shrink, though they'll get a toy in return.

As your kids decide how to spend money, teach them to start from something important. If they spend all their savings on one item, they won't have the money to spend on other things they might want. Because they don't have enough money to buy everything they'd like, they need to figure out what's most important to them.

In addition, show them how to shop smart. From buying products to doing cost comparisons, adults try to make their budgets stretch as far as possible — and you can teach your kids to do the same with their money. If your children want to buy a new toy, help them check the price at Target Toys at different stores.

Your kids watch what you do, so practice the same smart financial habits you're teaching them. It gives them context for the choices they see you making. One way to teach your children about finance is to involve them in your own financial decisions. For example, if you tell them you can't afford something they want, then turn around and buy a new television, which sends mixed signals. But if they know you've been saving up for a new television — that the entire family can enjoy — they're more likely to understand.

A. While everything costs money, some options cost less.

B. You should give your kids sufficient money to manage.

C Finally, adults should try to set a good financial example for kids.

D. When children get cash of their own, they need to decide how to spend it.

E. When they're buying something with their money, make the process visual.

F. However, it's never too early to start teaching your children about managing money.
