    My grandfather is an eighty-year-old man. He always complains about how fast things have changed, and he often says that life used to be better.

    Families aren't families the way they used to be. A lot of families have broken down. If husband and wife have problems with their marriage, they no longer stay together. And mothers used to stay at home and take care of their children, but now everyone is working. No one has time to look after children at home.

    And the cars! Most families have a car now. We used to walk five miles to school every day, even in winter. But now children don't. And in school, the children don't have to think anymore.     Great changes have taken place in family life because of science and industry(工业). In the past, when most Americans lived on farms, the typical family had many children. In a farm family, parents and their children often lived with grandparents. Usually, uncles and aunts lived nearby. But when industry became more important than agriculture in American life, families became smaller because industry requires workers who are ready and able to move off the land and move again whenever necessary. And large families cannot move from place to place as smaller families. So, at present people tend to have smaller families.

    In the future, because of industrialization, a typical family will be required to move even more often than now, so families will be even smaller. The typical family may remain childless and consist only of a man and a woman. A small number of families may take raising children as their chief work. At the same time they may also raise other people's children, leaving those families free to move from job to job.

    Being perfect is a dream for many young people. , if we really become perfect, we actually lose something. A man who has everything is poor . He will never have hopes, or something better than being. He will never know someone loves him or someone is giving him something he has always wanted or ever had.
