Good afternoon. My name is Tom Green. I work (A) __________the World Wide Fund for nature. It's also known as WWF. We work in (B) around 100 countries and have close to five million members. We want to help make the world a better place for people and animals to live in. Did you know that there are (C) 数千的endangered animals (D) around the world? These animals may die out soon if we don't take good care of them. South China tigers, giant pandas and Asian elephants are all endangered animals. They're endangered (E) _________people cut down forests and pollute the water. A world without these beautiful animals would be a sad place. We must work together to (F) 确保they do not disappear. The WWF works to protect the endangered animals and their homes. (G) Why not join us and help save the endangered animals around the world?
More and more people like bicycling and it is no surprise. It is fun, healthy and good for the environment. Maybe that's why there are about 1.4 billion bicycles and only about 400 million cars on roads worldwide today. Bikes can take you almost anywhere, and there is no oil cost!
Get on a bicycle and ride around your neighbourhood. You may discover something new all around you. Stopping and getting off a bike is easier than stopping and getting out of your car. You can bike to work and benefit (受益) from the enjoyable exercise without polluting the environment. You don't even have to ride all the way.
Folding (可折叠的) bikes work well for people who ride the train. Just fold the bike and take it with you. You can do the same on an airplane. A folding bike can be packed in a suitcase. You can also take a common bike with you when you fly. But be sure to look for information by accessing on airline websites. Not all airlines are bicycle-friendly to travellers.
Health Benefits of Bicycling:
It helps to prevent heart diseases.
Bicycling helps to control your weight.
A 15-minute bike ride to and from work three times a week burns off five kilos of fat in a year. Bicycling can improve your mood (心情).
Exercise like bicycling has been shown to make people feel better, more relaxed and self-confident. Bicycling is healthier than driving.
We all waste food, you and me, every day, millions of tons of it. In China, enough food is wasted in restaurants every year to feed 200 million people. And the amount of food wasted by Chinese consumers is increasing fast. So our nation is being encouraged to stop wasting food.
So what should Chinese consumers do to prevent food waste?
◆Keep a kitchen diary
All of us should keep a kitchen diary, and we can know how much food we waste at home. The first thing for us to do is stop throwing away food that we can. still eat. We should eat everything we buy and if we cannot, we should buy less.
◆Buy only what we need
We should ask for smaller portions in stores. We should also check how much food we have before buying more. We shouldn't bring much food we don't need home even if large posters ask us to do so.
◆Develop the habit of packing food
Chinese consumers are generous and friendly. In restaurants, often too much food is ordered and served. So when ordering out, we are supposed to exclude the food in the order if we don't plan to eat it. And order smaller servings in restaurants and take home what we cannot finish.
Don't put it off! Let's stop food waste today!
How do your parents get to work? Do they ? If they do, you might try to get them to walk to work for a day.
The "World Car Free Day (世界无车日)" was first by over 30 cities in France on September 22,1998. It was set up to protect the environment. So far, more than 1,000 cities in the world have had a "World Car Free Day".
The first "World Car Free Day" in China was in Chengdu in 2001. Other cities, Taipei, Shanghai and Wuhan also support the day.
The "World Car Free Day" campaign asks drivers to leave their at home one day each month and walk to work. It also calls on people not to use cars on June 5, which is World Environment Day. The slogan for the day is, "If we don't drive for one day, we can have one more day of skies."
When people think of tigers, they think they are strong and dangerous. But now, the big animal is calling for our1.
There were once eight kinds of 2in the world,3three died out during last century. In the last 70 years, the number of Siberian tigers(东北虎) has gone from as many as 300 to somewhere418 and 22.
The World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF) started a programme recently. It is about to put an end(结束) to tiger poaching(非法狩猎) and5wild tigers. China, together with 12 other countries, has joined in. The aim(目的) is to double (使.....加倍) the number of wild tigers in the next ten years. .
According to research by Chinese officers and the WWF, the Siberian tiger is already6of the world's most ”endangered(濒危的) animals. “ If the government doesn't take any action, it's quite7that there will be no more Siberian tigers in China in 10 to 20 years,” said Zhu Chunquan, director of the WWF's Beijing office. Wild animals such as the red deer, sika deer(梅花鹿) and wild boar(野猪) are the tigers' main food. There isn't enough8for wild tigers because of the hunting of these animals. So the9thing people can do is to save the animals which tigers eat.“ To protect the tigers, we need to call on more people to10eating and hunting wild animals.
A kind of little cars may take the place of today's big ones many years later. If everyone drives such cars in the future, there will be less pollution in the air. There will also be more space for parking in cities, and the streets will be less crowded.
The little cars of the future will cost less. Driving will be safer, too, since these little cars can go only 65 kilometers an hour. The cars of the future will be fine for going around a city, but they will not be useful for a long way. Little cars will go 450 kilometers before they need to stop for more gasoline (汽油). If big cars are still used with the small ones, two kinds of roads will be needed in the future. Some roads will be needed for the big, faster cars and other roads will be needed for the small, slower ones.
When your pen is broken, or you have some food that you haven't eaten up, what do you do with these things? You will probably throw them into one bin. But actually, all of these pieces of waste need to be sorted (分类) separately so that a part of them can be recycled. As we know, metal and bottles are reusable things. We can separate them from litter and reuse them.
In recent years, some Chinese cities have been working hard on it. Shanghai has worked with Alipay to create a "green account (账户) "service for its people. Users get points by correctly sorting their rubbish and can exchange the points for milk, phones and other products through Alipay. The city is asking all of its people to sort rubbish into four groups: wet, recyclable, harmful and dry.
Wet waste is things you don't want but that pigs can eat. Paper, metal and other things that can be reused are recyclable waste.
Harmful waste includes things like medicine and batteries. Finally, other waste will go in the "dry waste" bin.
Many other cities uses this method to sort their rubbish. For example, Shenzhen has been sorting its rubbish since 2012. China is improving its waste-sorting work though it costs a lot. There is still a long way to go. But it's never too late to learn how to sort your rubbish properly and protect the environment.

Dear Sam,
I believe that all children can help save the planet by recycling plastic bottles. We use lots and lots of plastic bottles every day. At our school, we use plastic bottles for all sorts of things — water, fruit juice, milk drinks and even medicine. They are a lot of bottles.
We have seen that people don't bother to put their empty bottles in the bin. They throw them out of car windows or just drop them as they walk These end up in our oceans, rivers and lakes, harming many water animals. They also make the waterways look terrible.
Even if they are put in the bin, plastic bottles are a problem. Because we use so many plastic bottles and they can take hundreds of years to break down, they clog (阻塞) up the space at the dump. Other things like paper and vegetables break down quickly and become part of the soil but not plastic.
If we all choose to recycle plastic bottles, they can be reused to make other things like toys, tools and even some clothes. This will mean less plastic in dumps and waterways.
Recycling is something kids can do to help the environment. So we should start now!
Thank you.
Jessica
What do you do with your rubbish? Throw it out? You don't know what you're missing! Look closely at the two figures on your left. They were made from things most people throw away. The figures were made from used bottle caps. Those two bottle-cap figures were exhibited (展示) in a museum.
Folk art is art made by common people who have not been trained as artists. Their work is often based on traditions in their culture. Fine art, on the other hand, is usually made by people who have had training in art. Works of fine art are valued for their artistic beauty. They are supposed to be looked at but not used. Works of folk art, however, are often made for everyday use.
There were more than 800 pieces of folk art from nearly 50 countries in the exhibition. All of the pieces were made from used metal, wood, cloth, and plastic. The artists come from many different cultures. Still, they all share one thing. They take objects that are normally thrown away and change them into objects that are beautiful, useful, and fun. The artists may not think of what they do as recycling, but that's exactly what it is. Fine artists might work with expensive materials. They might use expensive tools to shape these materials into works of art. On the other hand, in poor countries rubbish might be the only material folk artists and toy makers can afford. The exhibition shows that a rich imagination is very important when there are only poor materials. Recycled art began long before people began to think about recycling. Some of the objects in the exhibition date from the 1930s.
Even if you don't create art out of rubbish, it's good to save our natural resources. Remember the three Rules: reduce, reuse, recycle. If you reduce waste, true things instead of throwing them out, and recycle materials such as paper, plastic, and glass, you will protect the environment.

One day, Anna Du was walking along Castle Island's beach. She found there were lots of plastic pieces in the sea and some were too small to pick up. She began to think about how to solve the problem.
First, she did a survey. The result showed there were already 150 million tons of plastic in the sea, and every year there would be another 8 million tons. She realized something must be done. So she decided to invent a robot that could work under water. She tried again and again. At last her ROV came out. It could move through water and pick up plastic pieces, especially the tiny ones.
With this ROV, Anna Du took part in the Broadcom Masters competition which is one of the top STEM competitions. It's for young students around the world. This year, more than 5, 000 students were interested in the competition, but only a few got the chance. Anna Du's ROV caught a lot of attention. It had a camera with three different kinds of lights which could find plastic pieces easily. Dana Yoerger, an expert, said, "The ROV is nicely done for a 12-year-old girl. It's very clever."
In fact, Anna Du is always learning to solve the world problems and her parents are always supporting her. At the age of five, she began to go to workshops to learn engineering skills. When she was asked about the future plan, she said, "I want to be an engineer because I like building things. I think many world problems can be solved with new inventions. Right now, I'm just caring about plastic problems because there is still a long way to go. "

Earth Day is on April 22. Since 1970, it has grown into a global (全球的) event. Setting up Earth Day is a way to show how much we care about the future of our planet. It is also a good time to learn more about the environment and how we can help to protect it.
Earth Day is not just about big events but also about thousands of smaller ones to deal with environmental problems in the neighborhood. Not sure where to start? Some experts (专家) have made a list of 10 things that each person could do to save the environment. Each of us is responsible for acting, even in small ways . We can't say: "The problem is too big, I can't fix it".
If we all do at least five of these following things all the time, we can make a big difference.
●Don't leave the tap running.
● Turn off lights when you leave a room.
● Turn off your computers every night.
●Don't use paper cups, plates or napkins.
●Care for trees, plants and animals.
● Carry a cloth bag for shopping.
● Wash your clothes in warm or cold water, not hot water.
●Only buy electrical products if you really need them
●Eat earth﹣friendly food that is grown of raised as close to you house as possible.
●Tell other people about Earth Day and the ways they can help the environment.
Remember that every day is Earth Day. Anything to help our environment is a perfect thing to do on Earth Day and every day.
Many have heard shark fin soup. It is a famous and expensive dish and it is especially popular in the south of China. The soup (make) with shark fins. So far, no (science) studies have shown that shark fins are good for health. Everyone should stop (enjoy) shark fin soup. It is good way to help save the sharks.
people catch sharks, they cut off their fins and throw the sharks back into the ocean. Without a fin, a shark can no longer swim and slowly (die). This is not only cruel, but also (harm) to the environment.
Some environmental (protect) groups around the world are teaching the public about "fining". They have even asked governments to develop laws to stop the (sell) of the shark fins.
In China alone, 160 million mobile phones are produced each week. As we keep turning to newer models, old phones often end up staying around the houses.
Most of us may never have heard of indium(铟)or tantalum(钽).They are two kinds of metals which play an important part in making phones and other machines. However, according to the scientists, these materials may run out near the end of the century.
A recent survey found that in the UK,51 % of the families have at least one unused electronic device(电子设备)while 45% have between two and five, including smart phones and computers. And 82% of these people have no plans to recycle their unused devices.
The problem has led scientists to worry that, within100 years, people may not have enough rare(稀有的) materials for electronic devices. Once they are gone, they are gone.
So, recycling your old smart phone is not such a bad idea. Besides saving space, it's environmentally friendly as many materials will be recycled. With 5G going on, new phones will be produced for the technology. So it may be worth thinking about how we should be caring for and dealing with our old ones.

Many of the things we use every day, like paper bags, cola bottles, and others, are made out of materials(材料) that can be recycled. That makes it1to create new products out of the materials from the old ones.
Besides recycling the things you buy, you can help protect the2by buying products that include recycled materials. Many paper towels (纸巾), rubbish bags and greeting cards are made from3materials.
In some towns you can leave your4in rubbish boxes outside your home, and a truck will come and collect them usually. Other towns have recycling centres where you can5the materials you've collected. Things like paper and plastic bags, and some cola bottles can6be brought to the waste-collecting store for recycling.
7the waste you produce is the best way to protect the environment. There are lots of8to do this. For example:
Buy products that don't have a lot of packaging (包装).
Instead of9something you're not going to use very often, see if you can borrow it from someone you know.
Cars use up energy and cause10. Walk, take the bus, or ride your bike instead of driving.
Gardening is popular in many parts of the world. It brings us sweet smelling flowers, fresh fruit and vegetables. But you can get more from your garden.
Gardening helps to keep healthy. Today's people sit indoors for too long and don't get much exercise. When you garden, you have to move around. It's a good chance for you to exercise your body by watering flowers or doing some digging. Besides, when you are in your garden, you can feel the warm sunshine. This means you are getting Vitamin D. It helps your bodies use calcium(钙), which is necessary to keep your bones (骨骼) strong.
________________ It gets them off computers, televisions and phones. Gardening can be a great teacher to teach children about nature and healthy eating. It can also help them to understand the meaning of" No pains, no gains."
Gardening is a great way to meet people and build relationships. When you are gardening, you are outdoors. So it is a perfect time to communicate with your neighbors. Most people love to talk about their hobbies, and so do gardeners. They usually enjoy showing people what they are growing. And most enjoy sharing advice and stories about their gardens.
I can't remember when I started collecting litter. But it was when I (get) tired of seeing litter nearby and realized that no one else was going to pick it up.
I live near a forest Ohio, America. I can walk there in three minutes. I used to love going there to play with my dog. But one day there was much litter that I became very unhappy. I (decide) I had to clean up the forest. I wanted to be happy going there again.
I made my (one) trip to clean the forest that afternoon. I took a big black rubbish bag with me. Ten minutes starting to pick up litter, my bag was full! It had cans, bottles, (break) glass and newspapers in it.
From then on, I went to the forest four (time) a year to pick up litter. I'm often there for three hours. It makes me feel great to do something for the environment.
After each trip, I look at all the litter that I've found. it is recyclable, I will keep it. I can't understand why people drop litter. But I will keep picking it up until they stop (drop) it. I know I am only doing a small bit to help the Earth, but I still think it is important.
Electricity is an important part in our life. We can't see or touch it, but it is all around us. But some people don't know that everyone should save electricity. When it is not completely dark, many street lamps (路灯) light up early in some streets of places. Some people are sleeping with the lights on. They are all wrong. Here I make some suggestions about stopping these things.
1. We light them from 7:00 p.m.—5:30 a.m. in summer, and from 5:30 p.m.—6:00 a.m. in winter.
2. If some small areas are very dark, just turn on a few lights.
3. The distance (距离) between street lamps can be 50—60 meters.
4. If there are some activities, we can make the lights bright; if there is no activity, lights needn't be too bright.
5. Ask people to save electricity through TV shows, newspapers, and so on.
Electricity is a valuable resource (资源). It helps us live well and conveniently.
A. Our life will be terrible without electricity.
B. It can save electricity and money.
C. Turn on the street lamps on time.
D. Some people don't turn off the lights when they leave the room.
E. We should take action to save it at once!
Hello. We are students from Thailand, and we want to save the elephants. The elephant is one of Thailand's symbols. Our first flag had a white elephant on it. This is a symbol of good luck.
Elephants are smart animals. They can play soccer or music. They can also draw very well. People say that "an elephant never forgets". Elephants can walk for a long time and never get lost. They can also remember places with food and water. This helps them to live.
But elephants are in great danger. People cut down many trees so elephants are losing their homes. People also kill elephants for their ivory. Today there are only about 3000 elephants (over 100, 000 before). We must save the trees and not buy things made of ivory. Remember that March 13th is Thai Elephant Day.

All kinds of pollution and waste are bad for the earth. And small steps add up. There are lots of steps you and your family can take to help the planet and make difference. Here are a few ideas.
Save energy. First of all, remember to turn off lights in time when you not using them.
Don't waste food. The easiest step you should take is not to waste food. Don't take more. you can eat.
Use reusable things. Plastic and paper bagsyou use just once can pollute the oceans and the lands. If you can, use reusable cloth bags.
Create less rubbish. Each person adds 4 pounds of rubbish to the earth per day. That's about 3 tons per year for a family of 4!
