About 97% of the world's water is salty and is found in our oceans and seas. But,as we can't drink sea water, how can it be important?
Every part of our seas and oceans contains an amazing number of animals that live at different ocean depths. Most of the different species of animals and fish depend on simple plants for their food. These simple plants called algae(海藻)drift near the surface of the ocean and use sunlight to turn carbon dioxide and water into food and oxygen. In fact, algae produce over half of the oxygen people breathe. How important sea water is!
Each plant or animal in our seas and oceans is an important link in a food chain. The algae are eaten in large amounts by microscopic(微小的) animals, which are in turn consumed by larger animals. These food chains are delicately balanced.
The bad news about the food chains in the oceans is that they are under threat because of man,People once thought that the oceans were so big that it didn't matter if we dumped rubbish into them or caught huge quantities of fish and whales for food. But we now know this is not true and fish stocks in the oceans have started to drop.
Thankfully, the world is taking steps to protect the future of our oceans by introducing international agreements to protect marine habitats (海域).Most countries have introduced fishing restrictions to protect fish stocks in the oceans and new techniques are being pioneered(提倡) to cope with pollution. Finally, the importance of protecting oceans is being made known to more people. This is just the beginning of a long process to protect the oceans for our future. We depend on the oceans for fish which are an important part of the human diet. How important sea water is!

A. wouldn't harm the fish in the sea
B. would change the balance of the food chain
C. would be broken down in the sea
D. wouldn't do much harm to the sea
【3】From the passage,we learn that____.
A. most fish and sea animals live at the surface of the seas
B. it is very difficult to break the balance of a food chain
C. excessive fishing has caused the decrease in fish stocks
D. it won't be long before the problems concerning oceans are solved
【4】Which of the following is NOT a way being used to protect the oceans?
A. The use of international agreements.
B. Forbidding fishing to protect fish stocks.

Have you ever stayed in a hotel? Most Chinese hotels often provide guests with things like disposable (一次性的) toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo and slippers.
Many guests like the idea because they don't have to bring their own. But, if you travel to Beijing, remember to bring your own things. Starting from June, some hotels in Beijing will no longer provide guests with these disposables. They want to ask people to use less disposable things.
Many disposable things are made of plastic. People throw them away after only using them once. It is a waste of natural resources and is very bad for the environment. Do you know, one Chinese person makes as much as 400 kg of waste a year! Most of that waste comes from disposable things. In Beijing, people throw away about 19,000 tons of plastic bags and 1,320 tons of plastic lunch bowls every year! Plastic can take between 100 and 400 years to break down. So the less plastic we throw out, the better. So, wherever you travel, bring your own things and use them again and again.
Back at home and school, you can also do something to make our world a better place. Try to do these things in your daily life: Use cloth shopping bags, not plastic ones. After using a plastic bag, wash it out and let it dry. Then you can use it over and over again. Do not use paper cups. At your school canteen, use your own bowl and chopsticks instead of disposable ones.
【1】Why do many hotels provide guests with some disposable things?
A.Wish their guests to save money.
B.Hope their guests use less disposable things.
C.Want their guests to use more disposable things.
D.Let their guests be convenient during their travelling.

C.good service D.free TV programmes
【3】What kind of writing skill is used in Paragraph 3?
A.Making contrast. B.Citing numbers. C.Giving examples. D.Telling a story.
【4】What can we do to make our world a better place at home and school?
A.Use shopping bags made of plastic.
B.Do not throw away paper cups.
C.Use disposable plates, bowls and chopsticks.
D.Do not forget to reuse daily necessities (日用品).

The American dream is the faith held by many people in the United States of America that through hard work, courage, creativity and determination, they can achieve a better life for themselves. More specifically, they agree on how to get ahead in America: get a college education, find a reliable job, and buy their own house. But do Americans still believe in that path, and if they do, is it attainable?
The most recent National Journal poll (民意测验,投票) asked participants about the American dream, what it takes to achieve their goal, and whether or not they felt the control over their ability to be successful. Obviously, the results show that today, the idea of the American dream and what it takes to achieve it looks quite different from it did in the late 20th century. On the whole, people felt that their actions and hard work — not outside forces — were the deciding factors in how their lives turned out. But the participants had definitely mixed feelings about what actions make for a better life in the current economy.
In the last seven years, Americans have grown more pessimistic about the power of education to lead to success. Even though they see going to college as a fairly achievable goal, a majority 52 percent think that young people do not need a 4-year college education in order to be successful.
Miguel Maeda, 42, who has a master’s degree and works in public health, was the first in his family to go to college, which has allowed him to achieve a sense of financial stability his parents and grandparents never did. While some, like Maeda, emphasized the value of a degree rather than the education itself, others still see college as a way to gain new viewpoints and life experiences. Sixty-year-old Will Fendley, who had a successful career in the military and never earned a college degree, think “personal drive” is far more important than just go to college. To Fendley, a sense of drive and purpose, as well as an effective high-school education, and basic life skills, like balancing a checkbook (支票簿), are the necessary elements for a successful life in America.
【1】What’s the findings of the lastest National Journal survey in terms of American dream?
A.More and more Americans are finding it hard to realize.
B.It remains alive among the majority of American people.
C.Americans’ idea of it has changed over the past few decades.
D.An increasing number of young Americans are abandoning it.
【2】Some Americans now have a pessimistic view that college education ________.
A.is a goal difficult to achieve
B.still remains open to debate.
C.is necessary to achieve success
D.is no longer as important as it used to be
【3】What does the last paragraph mainly discuss?
A.Which person has realized his American dream
B.Who has a better view about the American dream
C.Basic life skills are necessary for success in America
D.Views about the role of college education in achieving success
【4】What’s the author’s attitude as the passage's topic is concerned?
A.Indifferent. B.optimistic. C.Pessimistic. D.Objective.

I think this wise to go to school on foot. First of all, walking to school is wonderful way to exercise and it’s good for health. Next, it’s fun to walk together and friends every day. We can talk about interested things and knowing each other better. What’s worse, if we walk, our parents won’t have to drive you to school. There will have fewer cars in the city. More walking and less driving help to make our city the cleaner. The streets won’t be as crowd as they are now. I hope more and more students will go to school on foot.
