On May 6th, 2020, a 30-member Chinese survey team started the project to measure the height of Qomolangma (珠穆朗玛峰). Actually it has been measured by many countries. In 1856, a British survey team measured the height of Qomolangma. Their result showed that Qomolangma reached a height of 8,840 meters above sea level. In 1955, the figure (数据) was rewritten by an Indian team to 8,848 meters, and later to 8,850 meters according to a US team in 1999. And in 2005, a Chinese team got a height of 8,844 meters.
It is not an easy task to measure the height of Qomolangma. The average air temperature on the mountain is -29 °C and powerful winds blow all the time. In such extreme conditions, surveying drones (无人机) cannot work at the top of the mountain. That's why it's still necessary to send human experts to the top to get exact results.
Measuring the height of Qomolangma is much more than just getting an exact number. Lying at the place where the Eurasian Plate (板块) meets the Indian Plate, Mount Qomolangma formed 38 million years ago as a result of the two plates hitting, which makes it the perfect window for studying crustal (地壳的) movements. Changes to the mountain's height can suggest whether the two plates are heading toward or away from each other.
The survey team will also get firsthand information about the condition of the snow and other natural materials at the top, which could be a sign of climate change on the Tibet-Qinghai Plateau (青藏高原) .
【1】The latest height of Qomolangma is _________ meters in the passage.
A.8,840 B.8,848 C.8,850 D.8,844

【4】What will the writer continue to write in paragraph 4?

The Internet company Tencent is building a car-free 'smart city", Net City, in Shenzhen. There will be offices, apartments, schools, shops, parks and other open spaces. Road bridges and subway system will connect Net City to the rest of Shenzhen. Though it is planned, as a work-life area for Tencent employees, the designer hopes it will attract visitors from other places and be a key part of Shenzhen.
According to the designers, the planning of Net City put people and the environment first. It can be a model for "future of city building" after the COVID-19 pandemic (流行病).
Different from traditional cities. Net City will be a place where the employees can work, live, and play. The office building will be the center of the project, surrounded by apartments, schools and parks to make sure a work-life balance for Tencent employees.
The designers rethink the car’s role in planning. "Our main goal was to provide a place where technology and artificial intelligence (AI) can really benefit (使受益) people," said Jonathan Ward one of the designers. "To do that, we tried to reduce the use of cars as much as possible.”
'Going 'car-free ' is still a challenge in our world, so we spent a lot of time designing the city.” Although cars will be able to get into some parts of the neighborhood, the plan tried to avoid all “unnecessary” traffic. "We take away some roads because we think it's fine for people to walk two minutes longer from a subway or bus stop." Ward explained. "And, in those two minutes, you might see something fun, get close to nature or meet a friend you haven't seen for a while."
What's more, the plan considers the environment with "green" rooftops and systems for reusing wastewater. Planners also thought about projects for future sea level rises, so that buildings are better protected against climate change. The building of Net City is expected to complete in seven years.

Wang Aijing, 29, was living the single life in Shanghai, and making a good living working as a fashion journalist. "I don't see it's necessary to save money, because, for me, things like buying a house or education of kids are too far away from me," she said.
Then the COVID-19 outbreak changed everything. Her company was closed and she lost her job. "I realized that I really need to rethink about my life," she said. "And then I realized I spent too much."
She wasn't alone. A study reported by a Shanghai paper showed that 45% of young people under 30 earned much less during the COVID-19 outbreak. Another survey taken in April showed that more than half of Chinese shoppers under 30 planned to reduce their spending and save money. Saving up has actually turned into a new lifestyle for Aijing and other young people.
She used to meet her friends in expensive restaurants. Now they cook at home-something she never did before. She started downloading new apps on their phones to sell off secondhand things. "In the past, we would laugh at people who used that," she said. "But now it seems that we have found its beauty. It's really bringing cheaper things, and the quality is OK."
What's the biggest change Aijing is making, though? In a few months, she'll move back to southern Guangxi province to live with her parents. She expects to find a job that will pay less. But with much lower cost of living, she'll finally be able to save big.
For many young people who plan to leave big cities, it isn't exactly by choice. But Aijing is feeling positive about it. "Although I was paid well in Shanghai, it was at the cost of my life." she said. Now that saving has become a habit for her, she has new dreams of what she can achieve, including an apartment for herself and a summer holiday in Italy. The pandemic may have taken Aijing's job, but it's also given her a new outlook (前景) on life.
