Nobody likes to fail. It makes people feel embarrassed and discouraged. What's worse, it may cause major professional or personal trouble and lead to negativity. Basically, failure is no fun for most people. However, a vast body of research tells us that failure provides us with a chance to grow and develop, increases adaptability, and helps protect against anxiety.
It's hard to change the mindset (心态) of a lifetime. But even if we still can't get over the broken marriage or the failed College Entrance Examination or the work presentation that went fearfully wrong, it might not be too late for our kids.
Christy Pennison, a professional consultant, says she works with an increasing number of kids and teens who show significant anxiety around a fear of failure. She said, "We want to protect our children, and we want them to live happy and meaningful lives, so we frequently tell them the harm of failure and ask them to avoid failure. The children experiencing internal and sometimes extenal pressure think they shouldn't fail. Meanwhile, we always have high expectations of them. So when they don't live up to a certain standard, or things don't go according to the plans, they will feel upset and anxious."
Pennison argues that failures, are often the hidden learning chances that can help people develop positive qualities, like persistence, focus, flexibility, patience, and positive self-image.
So what can parents do to help their children embrace (拥抱) failure instead of avoiding it at all costs? Pennison suggests directing praise towards the effort, not the result. "This allows children to build confidence in themselves, "she explains." Acknowledging the effort can give children permission to try new things without a fear of failure. And the bigger picture is that the development of the mindset —'I'd rather try and fail than not try at all.'—helps them keep a belief in themselves, and expands their world of possibilities." As Pennison points out, we all fail, but how we get up after we fail is what matters.
【1】What aspect do most people focus on when thinking of failure?
A.The great courage to face it.

A.Bring up the main topic.
B.List the challenges in our life.

A.The causes of children's anxiety.

④ Expand kids' knowledge about the world.
⑤ Encourage kids to make new attempts.
A.①②④ B.②③④ C.②③⑤ D.①③⑤

Ren Yamin, an entrepreneur who has been deaf since birth, is using technology to make communication for the hearing impaired easier than ever before through the smart glasses — using artificial intelligence and cloud technology to translate voice into text and project it onto lenses.
The idea for the glasses first came to Ren while he was studying at the University of California, Los Angeles in 2005. However, it was not until after his studies that he could begin bringing his idea to life. While working at a tech company called Integrine, Ren learned a great deal about cloud computing and AT technology. Upon leaving the company and establishing Seeing Voice, Ren launched a cloud platform based on AI and deep learning technologies in 2018 called 40DADOW.
With money coming in from angel investors, Ren said the next stage for his company would be raw material purchase and expansion. A classmate from the University of Science and Technology of China, Zhou Hui, who works as a vice-president at a Fortune 500 company, has provided the parts to make the glasses.
At a recent event held in Toronto, Canada, all 100 of Ren’s prototype glasses sold out. “What I need is not wealth, but to help Chinese who can barely hear,” Ren said, who achieved more success after selling up his company Seeing Voice in the Shanxi Transition and Comprehensive Reform Demonstration Zone in Taiyuan, capital of the province. The company began selling the smart glasses last June, and according to its development plan, production bases covering 5. 33 hectares will be put into operation by the end of 2021.
In the next five years, Seeing-Voice will provide 500 jobs and is projected to generate $ 2. 86 million in tax revenue after 2023, local media reported.

D.The future application of the smart glasses is promising.

Robots have certain advantages compared to humans: They are efficient, tireless, can be repaired when damaged and they never get sick. This last trait has made them the star during our fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. While hundreds of thousands of medical workers have fallen ill dealing with this highly infectious virus and a lot more are forced to stay at home for fear of getting the disease, this isn’t a problem for robots.
This is why the COVID-19 outbreak is seen as the “tipping point” — noted The Independent Science reporter Anthony Cuthbertson — for robots to start to replace humans in certain jobs.
In areas like hospitals and healthcare facilities, robots are used to perform high-risk tasks. In China, for example, a hotel in Hangzhou employed a robot named “Little Peanut” to deliver food to people under quarantine(隔离期). In Spain, robots are about to be used to test people for the coronavirus.
“Hospitals around the world are waking up to autonomous disinfection,” Per Juul Nielsen, CEO of Denmark’s UVD Robots, a leading company manufacturing disinfection robot, told Forbes. “We can’t build these robots fast enough.”
In non-medial companies, robots are also replacing human employees since they don’t have the problem of social distancing and will never take sick leave. Walmart and Amazon, for example, where robots are already used in sorting, packing and shipping, are planning to increase the number of robots in their facilities.
According to futurist Martin Ford, using more robots than human employees can prove to be rewarding for companies even when the pandemic is over. “People will prefer to go to a place that has fewer workers and more machines because they feel they can lower overall risk,” Ford told the BBC.
But this sudden surge(激增)in robot demand doesn’t mean that they triumph over humans in every aspect.
According to Bill Smart, a roboticist at Oregon State University, the human contact between doctors and patients is still important. Doctors comfort the patients and guide them through hard decisions while robots are only doing routine tasks, like cleaning and giving tests, just to free up doctors and nurses.
It might be true that robots have certain advantages over humans, but they are still secondary to human interaction.
【1】What is the passage mainly about?
A.The advantages of robots compared to humans.
B.Why the COVID-19 outbreak has fueled robot demand.
C.Why humans play a less important role in fighting the pandemic.
D.Different views on applying robots to fight against COVID-19.
【2】What has made robots desirable during the pandemic?
A.They can be repaired when damaged.
B.They do not get infected with diseases.
C.They test people for coronavirus more precisely.
D.They are tireless and can replace medical staff.
【3】What can we infer from the last two paragraphs?
A.Human interaction is essential in some areas.
B.The demand for robots is too great to meet.
C.Doctors can make more accurate judgments than robots.
D.Robots need updating to improve contact with humans.
【4】Which word best describes the author’s attitude to the application of robots?
A.Skeptical. B.Indifferent C.Objective. D.Favorable.

“Now, parents and students separate into two groups. You will be reunited at the end of the campus tour. ”
Groups of incoming freshmen happily left their parents upon hearing this announcement. I was less than thrilled about starting college, let alone leaving my mother's side to tour the campus with other freshmen;I felt a little anxious.
We followed the senior tour guide. The other freshmen chatted and made casual introductions as I dragged behind. How could I have believed I was ready for this ? After all, it had only been a few months since I left the hospital. I was feeling better for the first time in years. But college. . . ?
My thinking was interrupted by a sweet female voice, "Hi, I'm Jennifer. " "I'm Lauren, "I replied. "Where do you prefer to live? At home or on campus? "she smiled. "I'm not sure, "I said. "You should live on campus! It will be a lot of fun! "she said. Before I could reply, the tour guide announced it was time to create our schedules and select the courses we wanted to take.
We crowded into the Student Activity Center. Three seniors handed out thick course bulletins (课程公告)and forms that needed to be filled out. All around me, the sounds of turning papers and writing sounded like those given by an alarm clock. Others seemed to be moving through the process quickly but I hadn't even opened my course catalog (目 录).
"Focus, "I told myself. "Just read through the catalog and find the courses you like and a schedule that works. "Psychology A or B, Geology 101, English, History, sections 1, 2, 3. . . The list went on and on.
I panicked and almost started to cry. How was I supposed to know how to complete it?I was just relearning how to live in the real world, and they wanted me to make a schedule. How I wished someone could help me.
Paragraph 1:
Soon, other freshmen were handing in their forms.
