It is not unusual to hear that the “post-00s” generation spend too much money and time on online gaming or offer live streamers (直播主播) much money. But a report from China Youth Daily has found another side of them.
“Although they are influenced by popular culture, the ‘post-00s’ treat buying more like researching,” reported China Youth Daily.
Wang Yihan, 16, from Fuzhou, Fujian, is typically such a person. She decided to buy a Casio watch, but she didn’t pay for the most popular type. Instead, she researched all of the watches available. “I looked up information on different Casio watches online and I compared them. I also did research on their makers,” said Wang. For Wang, researching things is as enjoyable as buying them.
Rationality is also important to them, the report pointed out.
Sun Xiaoxue,15, from Huairen, Shanxi province, likes making her own journals (日志). “I found many stickers (贴纸) that bought when I was a child. Since most of them were old and out of style, I cut and put them together to make them my own. The stickers make my journals more special, ”said Sun. “I feel so good to ‘turn waste into treasure’ and also it helps me to spend less money.”
For Liu Yu,17, from Yantai, Shandong province, her buying doesn’t directly show her interests. Although she is a lover of Han costumes, she hardly spends money on them. “Instead of buying them, I am more interested in the culture and history behind the costumes when comparing different kinds of them,” said Liu.
【1】How did Wang Yihan decide which Casio watch to buy?

In ancient Rome, food tasters were once asked to make sure the king’s food was safe to eat. An electronic tongue (舌头) promises to do that and so much more now. Although the human tongue can taste different foods, there are limits to what we can taste. Electronic tongues are a kind of tool that can be used to study different foods or drinks in greater detail.
These “tongues” can be used to search for special chemicals (化学物) in food or drinks, and to compare the similarities and differences between different foods and drinks. Beyond this, electronic tongues can be used for other tasks like testing the water quality of rivers or even to test blood for signs of cancer.
Mainly, these tools are helpful in carefully examining things humans can’t or don’t want to taste in order to see what they are like. For example, imagine a company experimenting with how to make a cough medicine taste like bananas. It would be unsafe for the same person to test 100 different kinds of banana cough soup.
The truth is that “e-tongues” can do a lot more than any human tongue ever could. With this in mind, the food industry is using the technology in many interesting ways.
Scotch (苏格兰威士忌) is known to get better the longer it ages, as the price of a good Scotch shows. But sometimes, people try to sell 1-year-old Scotch for the price of 18-year-old Scotch. To stop this, electronic tongues are used to compare Scotch samples (样本), which ensures that the Scotch is as advertised.
Similarly, many consumers mistakenly buy unclean honey because they can’t find the difference between real and unreal honey. However, e-tongues can. They decide on a honey sample’s quality using electrical bursts.
As it stands, this technology could lead to better-tasting and safer food, among other things. Best of all, to achieve these results, humans will no longer have to put their lives or their tongues on the line.
【1】What is an electronic tongue NOT used for?
A.Studying different food or drinks.
B.Making sure the king’s food was safe.
C.Testing blood for some signs of cancer.
【2】We can learn from Paragraph 5 that ________.
A.1-year-old Scotch is the most expensive.
B.9-year-old Scotch is the most expensive.
C.18-year-old Scotch is the most expensive.
【3】Which of the following about e-tongues is NOT true?
A.E-tongues can test 100 different kinds of banana cough soup.
B.E-tongues can stop Scotch from being advertised.
C.E-tongues can find the differences between real and unreal honey.
【4】What does the underlined sentence mean in the last paragraph?
A.Humans will lose their lives or their tongues.
B.Humans will never get their lives or their tongues in danger.
C.Humans will never own their lives or use their tongues.
【5】What does the passage mainly talk about?
A.What e-tongues are used for.
B.How e-tongues are made.
C.What the differences between human tongue and e-tongues are.

In latte art (拉花艺术), a cup of coffee is prepared by pouring microfoam (微泡沫) into espresso (浓咖啡), and then a pattern will be created on the surface.
On June 6 this summer, Liang Fan, a 27-year-old man working in a coffee bar in Chongqing, won the top prize at the 2020 China Latte Art Championship and got a chance to compete in the world championship in Warsaw, Poland.

As the world is trying hard to fight COVID-19, how do we protect ourselves from the virus? The most important thing is to keep in good health. So do you have good hygiene (卫生) habits? 1. As far as we know, people’s health is closely connected with their hygiene habits in their everyday life. Under the influence of COVID-19, health experts are reminding people to wash their hands properly.
2. Although some may fail to notice this daily habit, hand washing actually has a long history. More than 2,500 hundred years ago, Chinese people had to wash their hands before taking part in ceremonies (仪式) and follow some strict rules.
In the 19th century, 3. 医生们发现洗手对他们的病人有帮助。The habit quickly became common among doctors and nurses, and later the public.
4. Also, more attention should be paid to a healthy dining habit. In the West, it is more culturally proper to eat your own meals. However, people in the East are exactly the opposite. For them, eating a meal alone is very impolite during social meetings. Instead of eating alone, they like eating common dishes. 5. 这是一种表达他们友好和温暖的常见方式。Some even share their utensils (餐具), which is risky. According to the WHO, saliva (唾液) is quite easy to spread illnesses through air.
Developing good hygiene habits can help people stay healthy. So why not start by washing your hands often and eating alone?
