When you were a little kid, your parents took care of your health matters like scheduling your doctors' appointments (约见) and making sure you took your medicine. You may be worried about things like weight, stress, and even suicidal (自杀的) thoughts. It's important to find someone who is both knowledgeable and dependable to get help. That's where your doctor can help.

It's perfectly normal to feel nervous when talking with your doctor about these personal and private things. You should be able to tell your doctor about everything.  So here are tips for you to make it easier:

Your doctor has seen it before. Most doctors have cared for hundreds or even thousands of patients.  No matter how troubling something might be to you, it probably won't surprise your doctor.

Your doctor is there to help, not judge (批评) or punish you. Your doctor is interested in keeping you healthy, not judging you for something you have or haven't done.  If you think your doctor makes you uncomfortable, turn to another doctor.

A doctor can't help you unless you tell the whole story. Even if you're uncomfortable, being open and honest will only do good to you. Most doctors realize that people can feel uncomfortable about raising personal problems, and they try to be good listeners.

A. But that's easier said than done.

B. So who can you talk to about your worries?

C. It's your job to talk openly about your worries.

D. So they've heard and seen just about everything before.

E. Many parents are happy to see their teens care about themselves.

F. As you get older, the health matters you face can get more personal.

G. A doctor's role is to listen, examine, educate, and treat people, not punish them.

4. 阅读理解
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

A few years ago, I moved to a window office and sent an email letting everyone know. In the email, I jokingly invited everyone to come by for a "tour" of the new space.

I was in a meeting that morning and when I got back to my office, I saw a box on my desk. There was a note on it, saying, "Happy new office!" The person didn't sign it. I was so happy with that. I didn't feel like I should help anyone or that someone was trying to get something from me. In fact, I found myself thanking everyone in the office. It was completely different from what I did on the beach the other day.

The water was coming in. Two nice chairs were about to be taken out by the waves. The owners were nowhere to be seen, so I moved the chairs again and again as the waves rose. When the couple who owned the chairs showed up, I couldn't help myself. I went over, pointed to the waves, and said, "A couple of hours ago, your chairs were out there."

"Oh, thanks so much for pulling them in," said the guy. "We just realized they were out here and thought they had probably gotten washed away."

"Don't worry about it," I said, as I walked away. Then these words came to my mind, "You have your reward (回报)."

Then I realized when I went over to the couple, I was looking for something. If they hadn't shown anything after I told what I had done, it would have upset me. In our life, people who show their good deeds (行为) are always looking for a reward and they resent those who don't celebrate their generosity (慷慨).

However, when we experience the pleasure of giving without letting the other know, we do more than show kindness. We're just giving to communicate an invaluable message, "You're loved. You're important to someone and it has nothing to do with what you can give in return."

  1. (1) How did the author feel when she saw the box?
A . She wanted to find out who cared about her. B . She thought someone asked for something. C . She was thankful someone gave it secretly. D . She was afraid it was sent to her by mistake.
  2. (2) What can we infer about the author when she was on the beach?
A . She got angry at keeping moving the chairs. B . She didn't think the couple liked the chairs. C . She made what she did known to the couple. D . She was lucky to meet with a kind couple.
  3. (3) What does the underlined word "resent" in Paragraph 6 mean?
    A . Hate. B . Avoid. C . Annoy. D . Persuade.
  4. (4) What does the author advise us to do through the text?
A . Give without expecting anything in return. B . Show love to someone important to you. C . Show kindness to those who dislike you. D . Do what we can to help more people.

If you ask me what my favourite sport is, my answer is swimming. I had started learning how to swim when I was five years old and I have been swimming ever since. There are many reasons why I love swimming but I'll just share a few with you, and maybe I can even encourage you to go for a swim.

The first reason why I love swimming is that it can be extremely relaxing. I love the feeling of floating on the water, feeling almost weightless. I find that whenever I leave the pool I feel totally relaxed.

On the other hand, it can also be a competitive sport. It's amazing pushing yourself to the challenge of beating someone else to the finishing line and it's great fun racing across the pool as fast as you can! Trying little tricks like underwater handstands and flips (空翻) also puts a big smile on my face.

Another reason why I love swimming is that it has more varieties (种类) than other sports. Swimming offers many different strokes (游法), so it doesn't feel like you're stuck doing the same thing over and over again.

In the summer, swimming provides a nice break! There's nothing better than jumping into the water on a hot summer's day. The pool makes you feel better immediately. And I think it adds to the summer holiday feeling. As for me the summer months are when I swim most.

And finally, it's a life skill which everyone should have. Not only is it good for your health, but you never know when you'll need your ability to swim.

  1. (1) How does the author feel after a swim?
    A . Confident. B . Tired.        C . Relaxed. D . Bored.
  2. (2) What makes the author love swimming more than other sports according to Paragraph 4?
A . The variety of swimming. B . The challenge of swimming. C . Much swimming experience. D . Underwater swimming tricks.
  3. (3) What is the best title for the text?
A . Whether swimming is good for health. B . The advantages of swimming. C . The ways to learn swimming. D . Why I love swimming.

"Tell me the story of me, Momma," my daughter Sophie always asks when we sit on my grandmother's rocking chair at the end of the day. "The first time I saw your beautiful face, it was nearly covered by a blue-and-white hat. You were surrounded by a soft blue blanket (毛毯). All I could see was a rosy face." "And I looked like a tiny fairy baby?" she asks. "You did, and you weren't older than a minute," I always answer. "The nurse handed a tiny little girl to me, and I was so surprised because you felt so light. I thought if I threw off the blanket, I'd find no baby there at all, only air."

From that moment, I became a mother. But that moment was just special and magical as if she'd come from my body directly into my arms. From that day on, she was my daughter in every way that mattered.

It's easy sometimes to forget there was another mother out there with whom I share my title. Sophie's birth mother, who was also my friend, lost her life to cancer not long after giving birth to Sophie. And I'll never forget that it was her difficult decision — her tears and her pain — that made me a mom.

As my daughter grows, she will understand that sometimes life is a relay race (接力赛), and you never know who in this world will hand you your baton (接力棒). It could be someone you know for years, or it could be someone who you even never meet, someone you will never be able to repay for giving you the life you always wanted.

  1. (1) How does the author start the text?
A . By remembering her grandmother. B . By asking her daughter questions. C . By describing her past life. D . By showing a conversation.
  2. (2) What can we learn about Sophie?
A . She was given up by her birth mother. B . She and the author aren't related by blood. C . She had a hard time growing up. D . She hated her birth mother.
  3. (3) How does the author feel towards Sophie's birth mother?
    A . Disappointed. B . Worried. C . Thankful. D . Surprised.

Growing up, we didn't have much money. Actually, we had very little. We had holes in the floor, a cold house, worn-out shoes, few clothes, and little food. With three little mouths to feed, my daddy worked as a guard in a middle school and then farmed our own small field until dark. We could have easily applied for welfare (福利), but my daddy wouldn't think of it. Our family was full of love and proud of hard work. Daddy provided the best he could for us, and Mama made our clothes on her old sewing machine.

It was probably clear to all the teachers and students at school just how poor we were. Then I was in the third grade, in Mrs. Harper's class. One day, Mrs. Harper brought a huge box of toys to school to give to "poor" children. Everyone was invited to bring some of his / her own toys from home to put in the box. Needless to say, I was disappointed (失望的), because I had hardly any toys of my own to offer.

My eyes got big when I looked into that box. It was like a dream world to me — so many colorful toys! Clearly, Mrs. Harper saw the curious look on my face, and although I never asked, with a smile, she offered to let me pick out two toys for myself from the box. I was so thankful and thought that I was the luckiest girl in the whole world!

When I got home excitedly, I couldn't wait to show Mama what I brought from the school. She saw the toys and asked where I got them. I was proud to tell her about the box for the poor children and that Mrs. Harper had let me pick two toys from the box! Mama thought for a few seconds and said in a very sweet way, "No … no, you can't keep these two toys."
