    Many of us may have experienced the pleasant moment of seeing recommended songs after we listen to some songs on a music app. When we open shopping websites, we often see things we want to buy on the home page. The businessman can decide which is the best place to build a new entrance in a big supermarket in the city center. If you want to take a taxi on a taxi app, it can even guess where you want to go before you tell it! Aren't these things amazing?

    This is based on data (数据). Data is no longer only about numbers, but information from almost every side of our lives: our shopping habits, interests or what we eat. All of this is called "big data". In December, 2017, President Xi Jinping called for China to speed up its big data strategy (战略) to better serve social and economic (经济的) development. As a result, people's lives can be improved as well. He also asked for greater use of big data in areas like education, social security and transportation.

    We have seen big data being used more often in China in the past few years. The role it plays in tourism (旅游业) is just one example. Many travelers today like to share their experiences with others on the Internet. All the data that travelers share online is helping the tourism industry get a lot of information. After the data is analyzed (分析), these tour sights can know about travelers' needs better. In this way, services will be improved, which is helpful to the development of the whole industry. As a result, travelers can expect better tours in the future.

    Moreover, big data is also an important growth tool for economic development. With growth rate of 30 percent every year, sales of big data industry in China will reach one trillion yuan yearly by 2020. Having so many good influences, big data is sure to be seen more and more in China.

The outpouring of love and support that my family has felt from around the world has been so uplifting. Thank you so much for all your prayers. I'd like to talk about both Kobe and Gigi, but I'll start with my baby girl first.

Gianna Bryant

    My baby girl. Gianna Bryant is an amazingly sweet and gentle soul. She was very thoughtful and always kissed me good night and kissed me good morning.

    She loved to bake. She loved putting a smile on everyone's face. Last August she made a beautiful birthday cake for her daddy, and it had fondant and looked like it had blue agate crystals. Kobe's birthday cake looked like it was professionally decorated. She made the best chocolate chip cookies.

    Gigi was confident but not in an impolite way. At school she offered the boy's basketball coaches to help give the boys' basketball team some pointers, like the triangle offense. She was very much like her daddy and they both liked helping people learn new things and master them. They were great teachers.

    Gigi was very sweet. She always made sure everybody was okay and she was our shepherd. She always kept our family together. She loved family traditions, and family movie night was important to her. She always looked out for everyone. She was very much in tune with our feelings and wanted the best for us.

    Gianna knew how to read, speak and write Mandarin (普通话), she knew Spanish and had great grades and kept them up all while becoming a great basketball player.

    Gigi would have most likely become the best player in the WNBA. She would have made a huge difference for women's basketball. Gigi was motivated to change the way everyone viewed women in sports.

    She was a beautiful, kind, happy, silly, thoughtful and loving sister and daughter. She was so full of life and had so much more to offer this world. I cannot imagine life without her. Mommy, Natalia, Bianka, Capri and Daddy love you so much, Gigi. I will miss your sweet handmade cards, your sweet kisses, and your gorgeous smile. I miss you, all of you, every day. I love you.

Plant Anything

    A good friend of mine, Miriam, was going away on a long trip during the autumn. I called her the day before she would leave for the trip to wish her have a good trip. She was completely behind on everything she needed to do. She was a little worried. "I bought some wonderful corms to plant for next spring. But now I have no time to deal with them," she said.

    I always plant many seeds (种子) in March and by June enjoy the sweet smell everywhere. I just can't bear the thought of a plant not getting a chance to grow. "I'll plant them for you," I told her.

    "Oh, would you?" Miriam was excited. She promised to put them out on the porch (走廊) for me.

    I arrived several days later and found a paper bag on the porch. After a lot of work, I planted all the corms in the perfect place.

    When Miriam got back a few months later, she and I went out for dinner to celebrate her return. While eating, she said, "You know, I still can't believe I forgot to put those corms out on the porch!"

I looked at her in surprise. "What do you mean? Of course, you put them out. They were sitting on the porch in a paper bag."

     "No," she said, "They're still sitting on the desk where I left them."

"So, what did I plant that morning?" I asked.

    She stopped as if to prepare me for her news. Then she slowly said, "That was cat poop (猫屎). You planted cat poop."

    Miriam looked at my face and did the best to keep from laughing. But I was too busy replaying the pictures of me picking these cat poop from a paper bag and planting them.

    Years have passed since then, and both our gardens and our friendship have continued to grow. I guess, I really will try to plant just about anything. 

    Biking is a popular form of exercise because it's healthy and environmentally friendly.

    Many cities have made efforts to make cycling  (easy) and more popular. In the US, Bike to Work Day  (hold) on May 20th every year. The aim of the day is to encourage more people (ride) bikes.

    Copenhagen, the capital  Denmark, is the world's most bike-friendly city. During rush hour, traffic-lights are always green for bikes. When it's snowy, people clear the snow in bicycle lanes (one), and the car lanes come next.

    In Amsterdam, people can rent  bike almost anywhere in the city. You can always find bike rental companies near busy  (area).

    In China, we have bike-sharing companies. They make more convenient for people to use bikes. However, biking is not that easy in many Chinese cities. Cars often take up Bicycle lanes and(bike) have to ride next to cars in car lanes. It is very dangerous. Chinese government is doing it can to improve the situation.
