Over the years I've been teaching kids about a simple but powerful spirit—the ant philosophy (哲学). I think we should study ants.
Ants have an amazing four-part philosophy, and here is the first part:they never give up. That's a good philosophy. If they're headed somewhere and you try to stop them, they'll look for another way. They'll climb over, and they'll climb around. They keep looking for another way. What a neat philosophy to never quit looking for a way to get where they'd like to go.
Second, ants think winter all summer. That's an important view. You can't be so naive (无知的) as to think summer will last forever. So ants are gathering their winter food in summer. An ancient story says, “Don't build your house on the sand in summer.” There is some reason in what it says. It is important to think ahead. In summer, you've to think about the storm. You've got to think about rocks when you enjoy the sand and sun.
The third part of the ant philosophy is that ants think summer all winter. That is so important. During the winter, ants remind themselves, “This won't last long;we'll soon be out of here.” And on the first warm day, the ants are out. If it turns cold again, they'll go back, but then they come out again if it is warm. They can't wait to get out.
And here is the last part of the ant philosophy. How much will an ant gather during the summer to prepare for the winter? All that he possibly can. What an incredible (难以置信的) philosophy, the “all-that-you-possibly-can” philosophy.
What a great philosophy to have the ant philosophy! Never give up, look ahead, stay active and do all you can.
Reading is a good hobby for all kinds of reasons. First, reading is (education). You can always keep yourself happy you like reading. You will never feel (boring) or tired.
Next, you can read a book anywhere—in a car, a plane, or even in the bathroom. All you need (be) a book.
Another good reason for reading is that it is (use). If you read as a hobby, you will get better and better at it. And you will read (fast) and find it easier to understand you read. As your reading skills improve, you will find your schoolwork becomes much better.
Some people say that reading is out of date. This is not true. You can read on computers, and the better you read, the better your computer skills will be.
Good (learn) may become writers, too. They always have more things (write) about. Reading is a wonderful hobby. Why not start reading right now?

Zhalong is a nature park in Heilongjiang in Northeast China. It is one of the world's most important wetlands. The area provides food and homes for wildlife. It is an ideal home for different kinds of plants, fishes and birds.
Many birds live comfortably in Zhalong Nature Park all year round, while some only stay for a short time. There are many fish in the wetlands, and the birds can easily catch them for food. Zhalong Nature Park is an important living area for the rare red-crowned cranes. There are not many red-crowned cranes in the world. Some of them live in Zhalong.
Some people want to change the wetlands to make more space for farms and buildings. This means that there will be less and less space for wildlife.
More and more birds are in danger because they do not have enough living space. Many of them died. The Chinese government wants to protect these endangered birds, and they can be safe in Zhalong.
Every year a lot of tourists go to Zhalong to watch birds. This year members of our Bird Watching Club are going to study the different kinds of birds in Zhalong and the changes in their numbers. The study will begin next month.
We do a bird count once a year. We are now inviting the second school students to help. We need more people to help us count and do something to help the birds. Many people do not understand the importance of the wetlands. We hope this information will help them understand it and make them actively take action to protect wildlife.
Helping others is important. Read about four kids who have started projects(项目)to help others. What can you do? Make a plan. Then get started!

If you put your history notes under your pillow and sleep on them the night before an exam, will you do any better in the exam? Most of us have hoped this might help. However, knowledge can't go through the pillow into your brain. But that doesn't mean you can't learn while you are asleep.
Scientists aren't exactly sure how it works, but they have discovered that the brain can learn things during sleeping hours.
In one experiment, researchers gave German speakers some Dutch words to learn. Then, they divide them into three groups. The researchers played the Dutch words for people in Group 1 while they were asleep, without telling these German speakers what they were doing. The sound was low. So it didn't wake them up, and only the newly introduced words were used.
Another group listened to the same words while they were awake. The researchers found the people in Group 1 were better able to identify and translate the words later. This was true only for the words that were played while they slept. The third group listened to words when they walked. The walkers didn't have the same success remembering the words as the sleeping group.
The researchers later found that people had more slow wave(慢波的) brain activity all over the night. They said that more slow waves made people have a better memory for the new words.

Some people like to have friends who are different from them. Others like to have friends who are similar to them. What kind of friends do you want for yourself?

I like to have friends who are like me. Both my best friend Vades and I like traveling. We went to Italy last month and stayed there for a week. Next month we want to go to Paris. However, Vades is more athletic than me. |

I like to have friends who are like me. It can be very helpful. I'm a little quiet and my good friend Libby is quiet, too. Sometimes I don't know what to do with my problems and she can tell me what I should do, because she knows about me better than people who are different from me. |

Spring came, most of the little girls in the school wore pretty new clothes. The little girl still wore the same dirty dress, although she had worn it all winter. The teacher sighed. The little girl was so nice! She always worked hard at school and she was always polite and friendly, 1 her face was dirty and her hair was untidy.
One day the teacher said, "Will you wash your2 before you come to school tomorrow morning? Please do that for me." The teacher could see the girl was pretty 3 the dirt.
The next morning the child's pretty face appeared. Her hair was clean too.4the little girl went home that afternoon, the teacher said "Dear, please ask your mother to wash your dress."
But the little girl still wore the dirty dress." Her mother probably doesn't 5 her, " the teacher thought. So she bought a bright 6 dress for her. The child 7 the gift and hurried home as fast as she could.
The next morning she came to school in the new blue dress and told the teacher 8, "This morning I tried on this new dress. My mother was9when she saw me. It's a pity that my 10went to work. But we will meet at dinner this evening."
When her father saw his girl in the new blue dress, he looked at her for a long time and hugged his pretty little girl. When the family sat down to eat dinner he was so surprised to find a 11on the table." What's happening today?" he thought. The family had 12 used such a thing before. "What is it for?" he asked.
"We're going to make here tidier with it," his wife said. "It isn't nice to have a house that is dirty and untidy when our daughter is so 13."
After dinner the mother started to14the floors. Her husband went outside into the back yard and began to repair the broken fence. They decided to try their best to keep the15in the house.
