When I was a young boy, my favorite thing was a toy gun. Sometimes I would shoot bullets(发射子弹) for practice. One day, I walked into the1 with my gun. I 2 a John Wayne movie where he preferred shooting the gun with one hand. As I was 3 what he did, I heard a pop. I hadn't 4 the bullets when I practiced shooting the day before. I watched nervously as the bullet parted the hair of my dad who was 5 on the sofa. One and a half inches lower, it would have shot him in the head. My dad woke up and saw what happened. He 6 took my toy gun, walked out and broke it on the stone. I wouldn't have another toy gun for a long time 7 that and when I did, I refused to put bullets in it.
8 troubled me most, though, was seeing the anger in my dad's eyes. I hid in my room for the rest of the day not 9 to face him. I 10 that he didn't love me any longer. At dinnertime he walked into the room and put his hand on my head. "It's OK, Joey," he said, "I forgive you. Now come and eat." I felt so 11 at that moment. I felt loved once again.
In the years that followed, I 12 my dad more than once. I was a 13 learner and suffered a lot. I cried and struggled(挣扎), 14 I always felt loved. No matter how badly I did, my father loved me and never 15. He was always helping me to become better and kinder.

Once my mother told me a story about the antelope (羚羊) and the lion in Africa. When an antelope wakes up every morning, the first thing it thinks about is, "I must be able to run1than the fastest lion, or I will be killed." At the same time, a lion wakes from its dream. The first thing it thinks about is, "I must be able to 2 the slowest antelope, or I will be hungry." So, almost at the same time, the antelope and the lion get up and start running toward the rising sun.
This is life: full of 3. Whether you are an antelope or a lion, you must go ahead when the sun rises. For students, it is just the same. If we don't study hard, we will fall behind the other students. 4, I did not know what the word "exam" meant. Later, I knew an exam was a kind of competition. In competitions, there were 5 winners and losers. As I grew up, I began to understand what competition is about. In one's life, there must be competitions, so people can 6.
Each time I saw little children playing games, and heard their7, I wished I were that age again. However, I remembered my parents' words: "You must work very hard in order to have a good future." So I picked up my 8 and began to study hard again.
However, I was still not sure what competition really meant. One day, I took part in an English-speaking competition. When I went on the stage ( 舞台), I saw other students 9 me kindly. I suddenly knew that competition was not always as cruel as my teachers and parents told me. Sometimes it could be 10 . I learned a lot from realizing this fact. Now I understand more about competition.
