It's a cold, grey Sunday afternoon in March. The British are all working in their gardens. They're digging, cutting leaves and planting new seeds(种子). By summer, their gardens will be full of bright colors.
The British love their gardens. A British newspaper recently asked people for their opinions about them. Around 70% of the people felt it was important to spend time in the garden, and over 50% of these described gardening as the most enjoyable thing they ever did.
Only one in ten houses in Britain do not have a garden. People who live in houses without gardens often rent(租用) land from the government.
At first, only very rich people had gardens. You can still see the gardens around houses with a long history, such as Chatsworth House or Castle Howard. In the early twentieth century, however, gardening became a hobby. People bought different kinds of seeds and plants for their gardens. Although roses, sunflowers and tomatoes are often grown in British gardens, they originally(起初) grew wild in other countries.
Every year, there are competitions for the largest vegetables, but don't expect to win:Britain's biggest carrot is almost six metres long.
A traveler in South Africa once set out on a long journey. When crossing a wide plain(平原), far from home, he saw a lion at a distance. The lion saw him at the same time, and followed him slowly.
When the traveler walked fast, the lion walked fast! When he stopped, the lion stopped! The man realized that the lion meant to follow him until the dark, and then attack(攻击) him.
He was not able to run away from the lion because the lion ran faster than him. So he thought of a plan to fool it.
He came to a large rock. He hid behind the rock, where the lion could not see him. Then taking a stick which he could find there, he put his coat and his hat on it, in order to make them look like a man. He then placed the stick with the coat and the hat standing in the ground above the rock. He then left quietly.
The lion stopped and watched the coat and the hat, at a distance. At nightfall, it jumped onto the coat and the hat to try to kill the man.
But the traveler was already far away. Before long, he reached his own home.
—Hello, this is Martin.
Since the outbreak of COVID-19, Guinness has seen many new records. Actually, the idea of collecting interesting records came to Sir Hugh Beaver in the 1950s when he was the managing director of Guinness Brewery. This year, lots of sportsmen tried to set records though most sports were cancelled.
Jed Hockin, who is from Australia, is a famous young soccer star. Jed has got his fourth Guinness World Record. He now holds an official record for juggling(抛接) toilet paper with his foot 84 times in 30 seconds. Next, Jed plans to beat the record of 11,901 soccer touches in an hour. "I am looking forward to breaking more Guinness World Records," Jed wrote in an email.
The skilled Australian isn't the only sportsman setting records while unable to play regular sports. David Rush, from the US, became the fastest one to put on 10 T-shirts, taking only 15.61 seconds. David has already held many records. For example, he broke the record of the most juggling catches on a unicycle(独轮车) while his eyes were covered. "I loved watching the Guinness World Record specials on TV," said David. "I was fascinated and wanted to have a try myself."
Then there is Dr. Vikas Saini, another sportsman, who could put on 10 different socks very quickly (9.23 seconds) when he sat on the floor in his home in India. Guinness officials have noticed more record tries from homes and gardens. They've received applications(申请书) for different kinds of records. "We are inside, but we still want to encourage people to be creative and lift people's spirits. So we continue to provide people with a chance so that they can learn about and try to set world records," records manager Chrissy Fernandez said. "Guinness would like to keep people joining us and having fun because being inside can be a little boring."

If collectors get all pins in the countdown series, they can piece them together in the shape of a big "0", which means the countdown is over and that the Winter Olympics is going to kick off.
Some limited pins about ancient Chinese stories quickly sold out. The series has put Chinese fairy tales into the pattern, vividly showing the images of Pangu separating the sky from the earth, Jingwei filling up the sea, Chang'e fying to the moon, etc. Only 2,022 sets of the series were produced.
