Who wants to carry a bulky bag to school? No children. Nobody wants one shoulder to be lower than the other, and paining(疼痛)too. In India, most of us would look at the reduction(减少)of textbooks as a way out. But in a country like America, there are always more choices. A company called goReader has created a "school bag" which is the size of a laptop computer(笔记本电脑), weighing about 2.5 kg. The goReader has a color screen and can "hold" all the textbooks that a student may need, says a report in 'The Asian Age' newspaper.
The company plans to work closely with the publishers(出版商) of textbooks so that these books can be supplied on the Internet. All the students will have to do is to download(下载) their textbooks. Making notes and marking important parts of a lesson can be done just as lots of students have done on their textbooks before.
At present, the plan is being tested out in a university. Richard Katzmann, the owner of the company is having his creation tested at Chicago's DePaul University, where he studied. Does that mean it is goodbye to the new paper, and the smell of the black ink?

I live in a beautiful city of Yunnan province. Many visitors come to my city every year.

There are so many colorful peacocks(孔雀) here. Most peacocks live on the grass land of Spring Square. Some visitors give food to the birds freely. They usually throw food to them, and don't think about at all whether(是否) the food is right or not. Some of the peacocks became ill, some even died after eating the bad food from the visitors.

I'm sure most of the visitors who throw food to the peacocks really like the birds, but don't know that they may be doing something bad to them.

I think we should show a notice to tell the visitors that this kind of thing must be stopped. Also, we can build some small shops beside the square to sell peacock food. It's really important to give more love to these beautiful birds and to look after them carefully.

With the development of economics(经济), the problem of the left-behind children(留守儿童) has become a serious social problem. More and more people have realized we should do something to help them.

Services such as hospital and transport (交通)are usually much better in the city than in the countryside. They hope that their lives will improve when they move to the city.

They are tired of the noise and the dirt (尘土) of the city, and they are tired of the crowded streets, crowded trains and buses. They don't want to live in the cities any more. They don't make so much money and there isn't much work to do. People in the countryside are very different and aren't always very friendly.

The UK should start producing lab-grown meat to help solve the world's food crisis (危机), according to a research group. A report by the Adam Smith Institute says meat made in a laboratory is better for the environment and would be cheaper than meat produced from farm animals.

Need for meat around the world is expected to increase by 70% by the year 2050. So could people be eating lab-grown meat in the future? Usually animals like cows are killed to produce the meat that people eat, but scientists have found a way to make meat in a laboratory without killing any animals.

Animals are made up of cells (细胞). Scientists worked out how to take cells from an animal, like a cow, and multiply (繁殖) them in a dish. In the end from one tiny cell, tens of billions of cells can be grown. These join together to form meat.

In 2013, the first hamburger grown this way was eaten in London. It took a year to produce and cost over £200, 000 to make. Dr Mark Post, who created the world's first hamburger from meat grown in a lab, told the BBC it "tastes exactly the same as the meat we know". When two food critics (评论家) tried the burger in 2013, one said it was "close to meat" and another said it tasted like a real hamburger. It's not just beef that is being created; companies are also working on other meat like turkey and chicken.

The Adam Smith Institute says moving away from the present way meat is produced would help reduce greenhouse emissions (排放) by up to 96% and free up 99% of the land used in farming worldwide. They also think it will reduce chances of food poisoning (中毒) because the meat is grown under such controlled conditions. Jamie Hollywood from the Adam Smith Institute also told the BBC lab-grown meat could be a lot cheaper. He says the price has gone down in five years from £200, 000 to £8, so in the future it could be even less.

  3. (3) The writer probably agrees that ________.
A . lab-grown meat will cause a lot of problems B . lab-grown meat tastes better than animal meat C . making lab-grown meat will cost too much money D . lab-grown meat can help solve the world's food crisis
  4. (4) Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?
A . Could lab-grown meat be the future of food? B . What does lab-grown meat taste like? C . When could people eat lab-grown meat? D . What is lab-grown meat and how is it made?

Together with her mother, Priya tried to find out the ring's owner. "We thought someone must be sad about losing his ring, and Priya said it would be great if we could actually find its owner," Mrs. Sahu said. "To the owner, this ring must be very memorable."

Through friends and friends of friends, they contacted the coffee shop owner, who finally put them in touch with Eastley.

Priya and her mother gave back the ring to Eastley in person in a park in Southampton. Eastley described the return of his ring as a "glass slippers(水晶鞋) in Cinderalla" moment.

Beyond Meat, a US plant-based meat producer, has said it will build a factory in Jiaxing, Zhejiang. This will be China's first plant-based meat factory built by a foreign company. Plant-based meat is getting more popular around the world. Made out of plants, it's designed to look, taste, and cook like real meat. It's usually made out of plant protein (蛋白质),such as beans and peas.

Companies are producing this product mainly to protect the environment, as the meat industry produces too many greenhouse gases. According to the Worldwatch Institute, 51 percent of man-made greenhouse gases are from the livestock industry (畜牧业).

Although this new trend sounds attractive, it seems that plant-based meat still has a long way to go in China.

"Chinese people prefer fresh and natural food. You can never get the real taste of red braised pork with plant-based meat," said one netizen. It seems not easy for Chinese people to forget the taste of the real meat.

Some also wonder if plant-based food is safe and healthy, since it's man-made rather than naturally grown. The high price also holds many people back. It's equal to or more expensive than real meat.

Winning the heart of Chinese is not easy because the food culture and customers' preferences are very different and the market is sensitive to price. But some companies, are working hard to win the Chinese market. For example, since many Chinese people enjoy eating bone-in meat, some companies are developing plant-based meat with bones. Others are making products that can be boiled for a long time in hotpot or soup, which are also more attractive to Chinese consumers. Maybe you could see the dish on your dinner table soon.

    A . B . C . D .
  4. (4) The purpose of the passage is mainly to ___________.
A . introduce a new kind of "meat" B . show the future of Chinese market C . encourage people to buy the plant-based meat D . ask more companies to produce the new "meat"
