I live in a beautiful city of Yunnan province. Many visitors come to my city every year.
There are so many colorful peacocks(孔雀) here. Most peacocks live on the grass land of Spring Square. Some visitors give food to the birds freely. They usually throw food to them, and don't think about at all whether(是否) the food is right or not. Some of the peacocks became ill, some even died after eating the bad food from the visitors.
I'm sure most of the visitors who throw food to the peacocks really like the birds, but don't know that they may be doing something bad to them.
I think we should show a notice to tell the visitors that this kind of thing must be stopped. Also, we can build some small shops beside the square to sell peacock food. It's really important to give more love to these beautiful birds and to look after them carefully.
A generous gap(代沟) has become a serious problem. I read a 1 about it in the newspaper. Some children have killed themselves after2with parents. I think this is because they don't often have a talk with each other. Parents now3more time in the office,4they don't have much time to stay with their children. As times passes, they both feel that they don't have the 5topic(题目) to talk about. I want to tell parents to be more with your6 , get to know them and7them. And for children, show your8to your parents. They are the people who love you. So9them your thoughts. In this way, you10have a better understanding of each other.
With the development of economics(经济), the problem of the left-behind children(留守儿童) has become a serious social problem. More and more people have realized we should do something to help them.
The biggest problem is that the children are all hungry for the love from their parents. Many of them can just get a call or a letter from their parents half a year, a year or even several years. So some children can't remember what their parents look like. When they meet their own troubles, they have no one to talk with. Nobody gives them enough care.
Because of being too far away from their parents, the left-behind children's study is the second biggest problem. From a survey about their study, only two percent of the children get good results, while ten percent of them are common and eighty-eight percent of them are poor. What a pity!
There are also many other problems of the left-behind children, such as having no ability to protect themselves, unhealthy lifestyles, spending too much pocket money and too much time on the Internet and so on.
In a word, to solve all the problems of the left-behind children needs the government, families and schools to try their best together.
In China, many people are leaving the countryside to find jobs in the cities, because the countryside is much poorer than the city, and often there isn't much work there. Services such as hospital and transport (交通)are usually much better in the city than in the countryside. They hope that their lives will improve when they move to the city.
But in the big cities of Europe like London or Pads, people are moving out of the city. These rich families want to live a quieter life. They are tired of the noise and the dirt (尘土) of the city, and they are tired of the crowded streets, crowded trains and buses. They don't want to live in the cities any more. They want a house with a garden in the countryside, and breathe the fresh air there.
So they move out of the cities. Some don't go very far, just a little way out of the city, to the towns near the cities, other people move to the real countryside with sheep, cows and green fields. There, they start new lives and try to make new friends.
Not all those who move from the city to the countryside are happy. After two or three years, many people who have done this feel that it was a big mistake. They don't make so much money and there isn't much work to do. People in the countryside are very different and aren't always very friendly.
As a result, quite a lot of people who have moved to the countryside move back to the city. "It's wonderful to see crowds in the streets and cinema lights," they say.
The UK should start producing lab-grown meat to help solve the world's food crisis (危机), according to a research group. A report by the Adam Smith Institute says meat made in a laboratory is better for the environment and would be cheaper than meat produced from farm animals.
Need for meat around the world is expected to increase by 70% by the year 2050. So could people be eating lab-grown meat in the future? Usually animals like cows are killed to produce the meat that people eat, but scientists have found a way to make meat in a laboratory without killing any animals.
Animals are made up of cells (细胞). Scientists worked out how to take cells from an animal, like a cow, and multiply (繁殖) them in a dish. In the end from one tiny cell, tens of billions of cells can be grown. These join together to form meat.
In 2013, the first hamburger grown this way was eaten in London. It took a year to produce and cost over £200, 000 to make. Dr Mark Post, who created the world's first hamburger from meat grown in a lab, told the BBC it "tastes exactly the same as the meat we know". When two food critics (评论家) tried the burger in 2013, one said it was "close to meat" and another said it tasted like a real hamburger. It's not just beef that is being created; companies are also working on other meat like turkey and chicken.
The Adam Smith Institute says moving away from the present way meat is produced would help reduce greenhouse emissions (排放) by up to 96% and free up 99% of the land used in farming worldwide. They also think it will reduce chances of food poisoning (中毒) because the meat is grown under such controlled conditions. Jamie Hollywood from the Adam Smith Institute also told the BBC lab-grown meat could be a lot cheaper. He says the price has gone down in five years from £200, 000 to £8, so in the future it could be even less.
"Who needs a shopping mall (购物中心) if you have Taobao?" says Wang Lin, 28, a writer in Beijing.
Taobao, China's largest online shopping site (网上购物网站), has become an important part of Wang Lin's life. She spends lots of money on Taobao.
A growing number of Chinese Internet users like Wang have found the joys of online shopping. Most online shoppers are students or young workers. More women shop on line than men. Clothing and home-use products(产品) are the most popular on line.
It was reported that more than 250 billion(十亿) yuan was spent on online shopping last year, 80% through Taobao.
Taobao means "looking for treasure" in Chinese. People can find almost everything they need on Taobao, from clothes to books, from candies to DVD players.
You may question the security of online shopping ,Wang Lin said, "It's very safe and convenient(便利的). Unless you receive the products from the sellers and are satisfied with them, the shop owner will not get the money. You can also get your money back if you want to return the products."
Today there are over 7 billion people on the earth, By the year 2100 there may be 11. 2 billion. There are many people to feed. We need more and more food,
One way to produce more food is growing stronger plants. For thousands of years, farmers have made plants better. Every season, they pick the best plants for the next season. It works very slowly. Since 1983, scientists have been able to change plants more quickly by changing their genetic( 遗传的) material. Foods from plants grown in this way are called genetically modified(转基因的) foods. Or GM foods. By changing the genetic material of a plant, it is possible to make new plants. Scientists make plants which are strong against plant diseases(疾病). They can also help in our diseases; a kind of rice will be grown, for example, which stops people becoming blind.
Rich countries produce GM foods because they're easy to grow and bring in more money. Poor countries are interested in them because they help produce more food.
GM plants are not natural. No one knows how good or bad they are. Making GM foods is only one way of feeding people in 2100. There are strong feelings against them because they are unnatural. They may feed people, then hurt them or their children later. But both rich and poor countries are interested in their uses, and they are not going to go away. In 2100, we may think differently about them.
What is the happiest thing for children? Of course, getting gifts from their parents is one of the happiest things for them. But what gifts do children like to get most and what gifts do parents like to give most?
As Senior Three students, we are not children any more. So we don't have Children's Day. But we can still remember what gifts we got in our memories and what gifts made us excited on Children's Day in our childhood.
Recently, a survey on Children's Day showed the results that 30.3% of the children wanted to get toys most while 28.8% of the parents wanted to give books most as gifts for their children.
Some people like to have friends who are different from them. Others like to have friends who are similar to them. What kind of friends do you want for yourself? We asked 200 students this question. Fifty-four percent of them want friends similar to them. Thirty-two percent of them want friends different from them. Other students don't care if their friends are the same or different. Here are some ideas.
I like to have friends who are like me. Both my best friend Anna and I like traveling. We went to China this summer and stayed there for five days. Next summer we will go to America. However, Anna is more outgoing than me.
— Kate
I like to have friends who are like me. It can be very helpful. I'm a little quiet and my good friend Bob is quiet, too. Sometimes I don't know what to do with my problems. He can tell me what I should do, because he knows about me better than people who are different from me.
— Jack
In my opinion, it is important to have both kinds of friends. That makes your life more interesting. I don't really care. My best friend is Carol. Carol is funny, and more outgoing than I am. But we both like doing the same things. I think differences are not important in a friendship.

In the COVID-19 pandemic (新冠肺炎疫情), people across the world are paying more attention to the health and happiness of each other. Some are trying to send messages of love and care in different ways.
In China, an international communication program was started to send support to other countries. It has collected eighty-five letters written by students in Beijing to young people in pandemic-stricken (疫情重创下的) countries. They are full of love and care. These letters were made into a collection of short videos called "A Letter to Friends". They were shown in the form of sand painting.
It is reported that many hospitals abroad refuse all visitors to patients in order to stop the spread of COVID-19. Patients feel lonely and worried, so some hospitals have created "Online Wish Wall" for the public. People are welcome to post their messages there to express their love and care. So far, the hospitals have received a great deal of encouragement from the public. The messages have helped the patients to cheer up without their loved ones by their side.
The COVID-19 pandemic may make life difficult for people, but love and care will make life better.
Have you heard of the video﹣ sharing app Douyin? It's quite popular now. There are some (interest) and useful videos on it.
They are very short ﹣ from fifteen to thirty (second). I enjoy watching them. there are some bad things about the app, too.
First, it (take) up too much of our time. You can (easy) become addicted (上瘾的) to it. Once whole afternoon. I forgot (do) my homework.
Second, there are a lot of meaningless (无意义的) videos. For example (they) videos on the app. You can't really learn. anything useful by (watch) these videos.
I just want to tell people that we can learn meaningful things from the Internet. Maybe we shouldn't spend so much timeDouyin.
Years ago, if a teacher had some problems in his life, he might write them in the diary. But now a teenager may go online and write his (每日的)feelings in a micro blog(微博). Diaries and micro blogs both (提醒)the writers of what happened to them on a certain day. But what makes micro blogs different from diaries?
One of the biggest differences is that micro blogs attract more (注意力), while diaries are too (私人的). Nowadays people are (积极的)in writing micro blogs because they want others to read the things about them as much as possible. Also, a few special or interesting online micro blogs can be (传播)and become famous. As they write more micro blogs, their fans may (增加)as well. Therefore, some people may show the moments when they feel happy, some may share the (幽默的)stories or experiences, and some even write (小说)in their micro blogs.
If people are caring about what they write and (谁)the readers may be, micro blogs are without doubt a good way to write about their life.
54-year-old Matt Eastley lost his ring when taking a vacation with his family on the Isle of Wight. He said the ring fell off his finger when a big wave(海浪) suddenly hit him.
Before leaving the island, Eastley asked the owner of a coffee shop nearby to be on the lookout for(留心) his lost ring.
The next day, 11-year-old Priya Sahu found the ring that was washed up on the beach. "I was looking for seashells and then I saw something shiny. I thought, ‘Ooh, what's this?' Then I called my mom over," Priya said.
Together with her mother, Priya tried to find out the ring's owner. "We thought someone must be sad about losing his ring, and Priya said it would be great if we could actually find its owner," Mrs. Sahu said. "To the owner, this ring must be very memorable."
Through friends and friends of friends, they contacted the coffee shop owner, who finally put them in touch with Eastley.
Priya and her mother gave back the ring to Eastley in person in a park in Southampton. Eastley described the return of his ring as a "glass slippers(水晶鞋) in Cinderalla" moment.
"I took the ring with me on that day when I got married(结婚) twenty years ago. Losing it made me so sad. Nothing can take its place in my world," he said. "It was lost but found. It's a really happy ending. "
"Who needs a shopping mall if you have Taobao?", says Wang Lin, 28, a writer in Beijing.
Taobao, China's largest online shopping site(网址), has become an important part of Wang Lin's life. She spends lots of money on Taobao.
A growing number of Chinese Internet users like Wang have found the joys of online shopping. Most online shoppers are students or young workers. More women shop on line than men. Clothing and home-use products are the most popular on line.
It was reported that more than 900 billion(十亿) yuan was spent on online shopping last year, 80% through Taobao.
Taobao means "looking for treasure" in Chinese. People can find almost everything they need on Taobao, from clothes to books, from candies to DVD players.

Beyond Meat, a US plant-based meat producer, has said it will build a factory in Jiaxing, Zhejiang. This will be China's first plant-based meat factory built by a foreign company. Plant-based meat is getting more popular around the world. Made out of plants, it's designed to look, taste, and cook like real meat. It's usually made out of plant protein (蛋白质),such as beans and peas.
Companies are producing this product mainly to protect the environment, as the meat industry produces too many greenhouse gases. According to the Worldwatch Institute, 51 percent of man-made greenhouse gases are from the livestock industry (畜牧业).
Although this new trend sounds attractive, it seems that plant-based meat still has a long way to go in China.
"Chinese people prefer fresh and natural food. You can never get the real taste of red braised pork with plant-based meat," said one netizen. It seems not easy for Chinese people to forget the taste of the real meat.
Some also wonder if plant-based food is safe and healthy, since it's man-made rather than naturally grown. The high price also holds many people back. It's equal to or more expensive than real meat.
Winning the heart of Chinese is not easy because the food culture and customers' preferences are very different and the market is sensitive to price. But some companies, are working hard to win the Chinese market. For example, since many Chinese people enjoy eating bone-in meat, some companies are developing plant-based meat with bones. Others are making products that can be boiled for a long time in hotpot or soup, which are also more attractive to Chinese consumers. Maybe you could see the dish on your dinner table soon.
In London, there has always been a main problem. In order to solve this problem, the government has decided to have a bike revolution(革命), it has decided to provide6, 000 bikes for the people to rent. The government encourages local people to ride bikes in order to solve the traffic problem.
More than 12,000 people have agreed to the idea. Some of them ask for more than one key. Although there are not enough bikes, an official(官员) from the government said that they would find some ways to deal with such a shortage.
Local people can get these bikes at special docking stations(停靠站). There are about 315docking stations across the city. About 12,450 keys have already been handed out to the local people, but only 6,000 keys can be used now.
Let's see the cost you need to pay. One key costs £3, and the cost of using the bike is f1for an hour. The cost per hour increases as the hours increase, so it will cost 50 if you rent the bike for 24 hours.
The official from the government said they also needed to face a lot of problems, for example some bikes may be lost, But they said they would try to their best to solve all the problems to make sure the success of the program.
