Whenever you do things you don't like, you will start to hate yourself a bit more. You will hate yourself for not being consistent. For doing things you know that you don't want to do, another stress is right there.

Do less

This is one of the hardest things, especially for me. I'm doing too many things at the same time. In itself, doing many different things to figure out what works and what doesn't isn't that hard.  .But at some point you need to

let go of the things that don't work and focus on the things that work. And that's the hardest part, at least for me.

.And if you always try to make everything work, you'll usually end up with nothing working at all.

Get rid of complicated things

There are many complicated(复杂的)things in life. Complicated relationships, complicated jobs, complicated whatever. what all of these things do is that they steal our focus.

Read books, not blogs

Blogs consist of too much information for our brains to process. Blogs usually leave out the story our brains need.  Don't believe me? Try it. What parts of this blog post do you remember? Probably none.

A. It's actually quite good.

B. Never hate to be yourself

C. Don't do things you don't like.

D. I always try to make everything work.

E. Our brains can make up a good story.

After Steve Jobs died, his friend Larry Ellison said something like this,"There will never be another Steve Jobs".  Larry wrote this list of Steve's life lessons to remind us all.

Love what you do.

Surely Steve became a billionaire when he brought Apple back. Apple was his calling— even after he got fired from the company. We all have bad jobs at one point in our lives. But the question is: am I in the right job? Have I found the right company? Life doesn't go on forever.

Don't do it all by yourself.

Steve learned a great leader can't do it all by himself. He needs people. They must be talented.  They must be given the opportunity to succeed and fail. In short, we have to learn to be a great leader if we want to see our great ideas and hard work truly have an influence on the world.

Apple is always the best at creating a new product that meets the exact needs of users. It's empathy (共鸣) that helps Apple achieve this. Whenever the user has the first touch with a new Apple product, he says "Wow, it's just what I need". Remember, you're King in the business world if you know exactly what consumers desire.

Don't mess around with your health.

That's the most important lesson from Steve's life. It's great to learn from him now, but the fact is that he should still be here if he had treated his cancer properly. Instead, Steve chose a naturopathic (自然疗法) solution that wasn't effective. When he finally decided to take his doctor's original advice, it was too late.

A. Be the best in your field.

B. They must be inspired.

C. Get on our right path now.

D. Take your health seriously.

E. Put yourself in the other person's shoes.

F. Will this lead to a successful career?

G. What are the key things that we can learn from him?

Some people make you feel comfortable when they are around. You spend an hour with them and feel you are already close friends. They are always good talkers. Here are several skills that good talkers have in common. If you follow the skills, they'll help you put people at their ease, and make friends with them quickly.

First of all, good talkers ask questions. Almost anyone, no matter how shy he is, will answer a question. One well-known businesswoman says,“At business lunches, I always ask people what they did that morning. ” From there you can move on to other matters—sometimes to really personal questions.

Second, once good talkers have asked questions, they listen to the answers. Your questions should have a point and help to tell what sort of person you are talking to. And to find out, you really have to listen carefully. Real listening at least means some things. If someone sticks to one topic, you can take it as a fact that he's really interested in it. Real listening also means not just listening to words, but to tones of voice.

Finally, good talkers know well how to “say goodbye”. If you're saying goodbye, you may give him a firm handshake and say, “I've really enjoyed meeting you.” Let people know what you feel, and they may walk away, happy and satisfied.

Recently some American scientists have a useful piece of advice to people in industrialized nations. They say people should eat more of the same kind of food eaten by humans living more than 10, 000 years ago.

The scientists say that the human life has changed greatly. Our bodies have not been able to deal with these changes in lifestyle and this has led to new kinds of sicknesses. These new sicknesses were not known in ancient times. So they are called “diseases of civilization”.

Scientists noted that people in both the Old Stone Age and the New Stone Age enjoyed very little alcohol or tobacco, probably none. However, a change in food is one of the main differences between life in ancient times and that of today.

Stone Age people hunted wild animals for their meat, which had much less fat than domestic ones. They ate a lot of fresh wild vegetables and fruits. They did not have milk or any other dairy products, and they made very little use of grains. We eat six times more salt than our ancestors. We eat more sugar. We eat twice as much fat but only one third as much protein and much less vitamin C.

But scientists say that we would be much healthier if we eat much the same way the ancient people did, cutting the amount of fatty, salty and sweet food.

A. People today probably don't want to live like our ancestors.

B. Ancient people also got lots of physical exercise.

C. Stone Age people lived a simple life.

D. Many cancers and diseases of the blood system are examples of such diseases.

E. Modern people used to suffer from “diseases of civilization.”

F. But today, we enjoy eating a lot of these.

G. In that case, they would live much healthier.

Some students prefer to learn by themselves. They think they can learn better in this way because they have more freedom, pressure and independence. There is some truth in their way.

It is better to have a teacher, especially when they learn something more difficult. First, a teacher can act as a guide to lead you to success. When you learn, you need help and advice. A teacher will give you a hand when you face difficulties.

What is more, a teacher puts real pressure on you.  If you study by yourself, you must be strong-minded enough to keep on. But under the guidance of a teacher, you will feel there is always someone to watch you. The teacher may give you homework to do. You must complete the homework, or you will not pass the course.

Last but not least, studying with a teacher will help you receive the benefit of the teacher's knowledge .They teach students how to learn and how to obtain information. They guide all of you in class to discuss the material and provide extra material to broaden the scope of the topic.

Are you afraid of failure? However, only by overcoming fear of failure can we achieve success in life. Here are some tips on how to remove fear and focus on success:

Understand that at times you make mistakes. Before any of us learned how to walk, we crawled(爬行). We got up, fell down and got up again. We continued the process until we could walk quite well.

Instead, view it as a stepping stone. Make certain that you learn from failure and then use what you have learned in future situations. Refuse to consider failure a character weakness. Doing so will only prevent you from achieving future success.

Remember that failure has produced many successes. Albert Einstein's teacher told him to quit school and said, “Einstein, you will never achieve anything!” Beethoven's music teacher said he was hopeless to become a composer(作曲家). Henry Ford's first two car companies failed.

Appreciate the benefits of failure. Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “All life is an experiment. The more experiments you try, the better you make.” It's hardly possible for someone to achieve success for the first time he tries.

Believe in yourself. Rather than give up when things don't work out, take it as a chance to build perseverance(坚持不懈). Remind yourself how many failures became successful because they wouldn't give up.

A. Don't take failure personally.

B. Work hard and try to avoid(避免) failure.

C. Realize that you are human and humans make mistakes.

D. Believe that you've got what it takes to work through the difficult times.

E. Making the same mistake again can lead to the failure in your future work.

F. Consider how many people in history had failed before they became successful.

G. In other words, your chances of getting things right on the first try are little.

Easy ways to keep your brain sharp

Everyone is forgetful, but as we age, we start to feel like our brains are slowing down a bit — and that can be a very annoying thing.  Read on for some techniques worth trying.

    ⒈

People who regularly made plans and looked forward to upcoming events had a 50 percent reduced chance of Alzheimer's disease (早老性痴呆症), according to a recent study. Something as simple as setting a goal to have a weekly coffee date with a friend will do. There's evidence that people who have a purpose in life or who are working on long or short-term goals appear to do better. In other words, keep your brains looking forward.

    ⒉Go for a walk.

Mildly raised glucose (葡萄糖) levels can harm the area of the brain that helps you form memories and physical activity can help get blood glucose down to normal levels. In fact, exercise produces chemicals that are good for your brain.

    ⒊Learn something new.

Take a Spanish class online, join a drawing club, or learn to play cards. A study found that mental stimulation (刺激) limits the weakening effects of aging on memory and the mind. But the best thing for your brain is when you learn something new and are physically active at the same time. Or go dancing with your friends.

A. Focus on the future.

B. This can be especially harmful to the aged.

C. It should be something like learning gardening.

D. So take a few minutes each day to do some reading.

E. But don't worry if your schedule isn't filled with life-changing events.

F. Luckily, research shows there is a lot you can do to avoid those moments.

G. In other words, when you take care of your body, you take care of your brain.

Body language provides a lot of information on what other people are thinking. A research has shown that 55% of communication comes from body language.  Next time you're in a meeting, watch for these cues(暗示):

Real smiles crinkle (使起皱纹) the eyes. When it comes to smiling, the mouth can lie but the eyes can't. Real smiles reach the eyes, crinkling the skin to create crow's feet around them. People often smile to hide what they're really thinking and feeling, so the next time you want to know if someone's smile is real, look for crinkles at the corners of their eyes.

Have you ever been in a meeting with someone and noticed that every time you cross or uncross your legs, they do the same? Or perhaps they lean their head the same way as yours when you're talking? That's actually a good sign. It means that the conversation is going well and that the other party accepts your message.

Eyes that lie. Most of us believe that it's difficult to hold someone's gaze (凝视) when they're lying. But that's such common knowledge that people will often try to hold eye contact, hoping to cover up the fact that they're lying.  If you're talking with someone whose gaze is making you uncomfortable, something is up and they might be lying to you.

Even if you can't read a person's exact thoughts, you can learn a lot from their body language.

A. Copying your body language is a good thing.

B. If they aren't there, that smile is hiding something.

C. Good sings lead to good conversations in a meeting.

D. You'll have to find out how long they have looked at you.

E. Learning how to understand that 55% can give you a lot of help.

F. That's especially true when words and body language don't match.

G. The problem is that most of them will hold eye contact until it feels uncomfortable.

3-2-1 GREEN!

You already know an environmentalist's three R's: reduce, reuse, recycle.  Here are three things you can do for the Earth Day.

    Be a real cut-up

The next time you're about to throw out the plastic rings that hold a six-pack of soda together, reach for a pair of scissors.

As a young turtle, Peanut got stuck in one of these rings. As she grew, the ring stayed put, forcing her shell to grow around it. By the time someone found her and cut her free, her shell was permanently deformed. Thanks to her hard shell, Peanut is alive and well. She now lives at a nature center in Missouri. But most animals that get caught in six-pack rings die.

    WHAT YOU CAN DO

    Easy!

    Hunt for vampires(吸血鬼)

You know all those electronic inventions you've got at home? Even when you switch them off, they are really still on.  Anything with a glowing LED off/on light, a remote control, or a clock display is always on.

    WHAT YOU CAN DO

Just pull out the plugs or tap the OFF switch till you really need the electronics.

Matt Damon really cares about clean water. So in February, he announced that he was going on strike against toilets. " Until everybody has access to clean water and sanitation(卫生设备)," he said. "I will not go to the bathroom!" He was kidding but to make a serious point. Around the world, he said, "780 million people lack access to clean water; 2.5 billion people lack access to a toilet."

    WHAT YOU CAN DO

No need to go on a toilet strike. Just don't waste water. Take shorter showers.

A. Use water wisely.

B. How to recognize vampire electronics?

C. Cut the rings apart before you trash them.

D. Use toilets less.

E. But how else can you help?

F. Don't run the water while brushing your teeth.

G. Things that can help with good living conditions are important.

A. One of them is cleaning the inside of cabs.

B. Being a taxi driver can be emotionally rewarding.

C. A cab driver must have excellent communication skills.

D. There are some taxis specially made for disabled people.

E. However, some drivers may be asked to make small repairs.

F. These prices must be calculated before the driver sets off on the trip.

G. Taxi drivers should have a basic knowledge of a country's spoken language.

While it may seem that a cab driver has only one responsibility—to drive customers to and from certain destinations, this is not the case. Instead, a cab driver must be ready to take on a number of different tasks. Taxis have been around in various forms for many centuries, and the many duties of a cab driver increase as time goes on. Not only do cab drivers have to pick up all kinds of people, but many of them have to interact with their customers. Frequently, cab drivers are hired by tourists or business people for an entire day, and this can mean making unavoidable contact with different people with different personalities.

Taxi drivers must also be able to operate different types of vehicles. The vehicles have ramps (斜面) that can be raised and lowered. This type of vehicle requires a special license that most cab drivers must get before obtaining a position as a taxi driver.

Generally, cab drivers are not required to repair vehicles. For example, almost all taxi drivers know how to change tires (轮胎), lights, and other small vehicle parts. Many drivers are also responsible for checking the taxi on a regular basis.

Perhaps the most important task that a cab driver must be aware of is how to charge a customer for each trip. While the prices of some trips have been predetermined (商定), such as airport fares, other trips must be calculated using taximeters (计价器) and fee charts.

You want to be respected, but you're not sure how this whole thing works. How can you help others? How can you inspire change, growth, and new ideas in others? When you think about the people you respect deeply, what do they do differently from the others? Here are some of my own tips:

When you're interviewing someone, do the background research and find out everything you need to know to make an effective interview. When you're going to a job interview, make sure you've learned about the company and know what their needs are. When you're talking to friends, listen and gather information from the conversations and remember things that they care about to strengthen your relationship.

Stop being too nice.

Distinguish(区分) kindness from always having to do things for people. A person who is easy to be persuaded is unwelcome if your goal is to be respected. If you're too nice to everyone all the time, some people might even think you're not genuine.

Speak your mind.

When it is necessary, make sure you speak your mind. People who are highly respected have strong opinions on many topics, and lots of ideas about how to improve things.

Don't believe the self-talk.

If you want others to respect you, it's obvious that you need to respect yourself. On those days, you will experience negative self-talk. Don't believe it. Remember your strengths and learn from your mistakes.

A. Be open-minded.

B. Always do your homework.

C. Don't be afraid to mention these ideas.

D. The key is to start thinking about others.

E. It's not always easy, as we all have our bad days.

F. Trying to make everyone happy won't get you very far.

According to Jessica Hagy, author of How to Be Interesting, it's not difficult to make yourself interesting at a dinner party.

, if you're out of your comfort zone or if you're wandering into somebody's house for the first time. So the main thing is just to show up and be adventurous, trying different foods and talking to strangers.

People love to talk about themselves. If you can start the conversation with a question other than “What do you do for a living?", you'll be able to get a lot more interesting conversation out of whomever it is you're talking to. . it can bring in "I have this old, broken-down vehicle" or "I rode the bus with these crazy people who were laughing at silly jokes in the back." It just opens up conversation.

? If you can't take their wine away, you should certainly try to take away their soapbox (讲台).If you're the host, you can ask them to help you in the kitchen with something and just remove them from the situation.

And what about that other dinner-party killer: awkward silence? If you're faced with an awkward silence at a dinner party, the only thing that always gets everyone talking again is to give the host a compliment (赞扬).. Just quickly tun around and say, "This cake is extremely delicious and you have to tell me all about it.”

So being interesting at a dinner party isn't that hard.

A. How do you know the host

B. The first step is to go exploring

C. If you ask the question "How did you get here?',

D. Be prepared to have awkward conversations with strangers

E. Or turn the conversation into a topic where they have little to say

F. What about that person who has had too much to drink or won't stop talking

G. He or she is the person who is feeling the weight of that awkwardness the most

How to Improve Your Memory

The human brain is extremely complex and powerful.  Here are 3 simple things that will help you improve your memory and keep it going strong into your old age.

Get plenty of exercise and rest.

Exercise isn't just good for your physical body, but it is also good for your brain. Exercise increases the amount of oxygen that gets to your brain.   When you exercise, your brain produces certain chemicals that help to protect your brain cells. Rest is also an important part of improving your memory. Studies show that key memory improvement happens when you are in those deep stages of sleep, so go to bed early every night.

Have a good laugh as often as you can.

Not only is laughter good for the soul, it is also good for the brain and can help improve your memory. This helps you to learn more and be more creative. So, go ahead and belt out a good laugh. Not only will others join you, but you will feel much better after doing it.

Stress has a bad effect on your body, especially the brain. If you let stress stay, it can destroy your brain cells and cause damage to the part of the brain responsible for creating new memories and remembering old ones. So, stay away from stress. It's bad for you. If you are feeling a little stressed, go outside and take a little walk around.

A. Avoid stress.

B. Change your behavior.

C. It also helps to reduce memory loss

D. This will make you feel ten times better.

E. When you laugh you excite many areas of your brain.

F. The health of your brain directly shows how strong your memory is.

G. The human brain is like a muscle and can be trained.

Are you feeling empty? If so, you are not alone. Actually, it's a common occurrence for many of us to feel empty in various ways. For instance, you might feel empty as something is missing in your life. Or the emptiness might stem from slowly abandoning yourselves, and not listening to your own hopes and desires. Abandoning yourselves can also spark anxiety, depression, guilt and shame. Here are several suggestions to help you out.

Acknowledge the emptiness. If you're experiencing emptiness that's more like a gaping hole, acknowledge it, and be gentle with yourself. If this emptiness is because of a loved one's passing, don't get angry with yourself for grieving years later. In that case you learn to live life alongside that hole of missing that person.

Explore your feelings of emptiness. Scientists suggested exploring the below questions. We can do this while keeping a journal, taking a walk or drinking a cup of tea.

*Do I tell myself positive things?

*What am I trying to prove or win?

*Am I blaming myself for things that are out of my control?

Fight the urge to turn to the outside world for fulfillment. Instead of trying to fill the emptiness with drugs, alcohol, TV, computer games or anything else, look within, and spend time with yourself. It may feel uncomfortable at first, but the more you practise devoting time and energy to yourself and caring for yourself, the less present those empty feelings will be.

Whether you are experiencing difficult relationships, losses, or feeling a lack of purpose or meaning, you are worthy of a fulfilling and meaningful life.

A. Control your current feelings.

B. Spend time with yourself every day.

C. How do you handle your emptiness?

D. Don't beat yourself up for feeling this way.

E. Have I been judging myself or comparing myself to others?

F. It's important to acknowledge and accept your feelings of emptiness.

G. Do you spend too much time on filling your emptiness?

A writing club is a group consisting of writers who meet together to share and comment on manuscripts (手稿).People who write stories, poetry, or even non-fiction articles can join a writing club. But the usual site is in a library, bookstore, private home, or a school.

A Few Active Listening Guidelines

Listening is probably the most important element of interpersonal communication. Our ability to listen affects the quality of all of our relationships, and not just at home with our family and friends-it can also affect our relationships and interactions (交流) on the job, as well as the effectiveness and quality of our work.

Listening is not something that comes naturally or easily for most of us. Active listening means the difference between simply hearing, and listening with the intention to truly understand. It is a subtle but important distinction.

·Give focused attention

Try to minimize outside disturbance. Turn down the noise, and put down or step away from what you're doing if possible. Don't watch the clock, keep moving your hands or go over your to-do list for later.

·Keep eye contact

Direct eye contact shows your attention and intention to listen. Be reasonable, but try not to let your eyes wander to whatever is going on around you.

·Reflect back

Restate, but don't repeat word for word. Paraphrase (解释) what you think the other part is saying with responses such as: "What I'm hearing is. "or" Let me see if I'm following you…".

·Respond appropriately

Share your thoughts, comprehension and feelings in a clear, but respectful and considerate manner even if you disagree.

Active listening is a model for good communication. Remember that listening is not just to gather information and share ideas, but also to gain viewpoints and understanding. It takes practice to develop active listening skills, and it's a habit that has to be strengthened. Remind yourself that the goal of conversation is not merely to trade words, but to truly understand what the other party is saying and to be understood in turn.

A. Focus on what is being said.

B. This doesn't mean stare, though.

C. Be open and honest in your responses.

D. You do not have to agree on everything.

E. Instead, it is a skill that must be developed and practiced.

F. Also, set aside other thinking and dialogue inside your head.

G. Reflecting what you've heard signals that you're attempting to understand fully.
