Robots will create double the number of jobs that they will destroy, according to the World Economic Forum (WEF), but there will be significant shifts in the structure of America's workforce that may impact everyone. The report says that 75 million jobs will be replaced by artificial intelligence (AI), robotics and automation. But it also suggests that 133 million new jobs may be created as organizations shift the balance between human workers and machines.

It is a widely held belief that routine, low-skilled jobs are most at risk for automation, but the report shows that many middle-class roles are also at risk. Financial analysts, accountants and lawyers could all see significant changes by 2022. But manual workers could be among the hardest hit.

Meanwhile, there could be a huge change in the structure of the workforce, with the executives surveyed by WEF expecting a shift away from full-time work to flexible employment with a focus on productivity.

All industries expect big skills gaps, stating that at least 50 percent of their workforce will require reskilling of some degree. The aviation, travel and tourism industry will have the largest demand for reskilling.

An old proverb says, "Overcome evil by doing good." I read the news and see people who behead(将……斩首)others in the Middle East, abuse maids and domestic workers in Hong Kong, steal money and misuse power in government (not only in China but in the U.S. and every other part of the world), those who claim certain social ideals while privately practicing greed and living lifestyles that totally contradict their so-called 'ideals.' I only see the headlines and rarely read the stories. It is too depressing.

So, what do you do when there is so much evil in the world? What can YOU do about it?

There's only one thing that I know to do. I know (and feel it deep in my heart) to do good.

My way of overcoming evil in the world is to invest in the lives of Chinese children. I do this every day. I love 'giving back'. I love taking the money I earn and investing back into the lives of children. I will create a language learning lab in a public high school's international department (I already bought four new computers for it this week). The students need the tools to work on their English exams and prepare for TOEFL, IELTS and the SAT. There's no provision for them to have such a resource right now, so, rather than complain about it not being done, I decided, 'why don't I do something about it.' I know that I can and just decided to do it. It isn't anything great, but it will make a difference in the lives of some.

So Close, Yet So Far

Where am I? What am I doing? If you're one of my 500 friends online, you'll always be the first to know. My phone and laptop are never out of touching distance, so I'm constantly posting updates on social media—whether I'm having a coffee, on my way to school, watching TV… even when I'm in the shower. I have a never-ending flow of messages and updates from all the people I associate with online.

I live in a university dorm with a couple of great roommates. Yet the truth of the matter is: I feel lonely. A few days ago, I went out for a dinner get-together with some friends. My best friend left the table for 30 minutes because he had to take a call. Some spent the dinner bent over their phones, texting friends online but ignoring the one who sat right in front of them. And the extraordinary thing is no one thought this was rude; it's just how life is nowadays.

阅读下面短文,根据内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。

There are many benefits of public transportation. For example, public transportation makes it easier for people to get where they want and need to go. It also helps people save money, as the cost of maintaining a working vehicle is often much more than the cost associated with public transportation. The frequency of traffic jams and accidents may also be reduced when a person uses public transportation.

One of the main benefits of public transportation is the fact that it makes it easier for people to get around. Without public transportation, many people — especially those without cars — would be limited in where they could go and what they could do. With public transportation, however, people can get to school and work, get to the grocery store and to doctors' offices, and visit relatives, even if they do not own vehicles. Public transportation serves people of all ages and from all walks of life, ranging from families, including their children, to business people on their way to the office, to the elderly.

Often, people complain about the cost of public transportation when the rates are raised. When compared to the cost of buying a car, many people find that choosing to ride public transportation is a much cheaper option.

When public transportation is available, many people choose to use it instead of driving to work and school. This is true even of many people who own cars, as they may prefer to ride to work on a bus or train rather than deal with traffic jams and parking frustrations each day. When people make this choice, the result is less traffic on the roadways, which means fewer traffic jams and less pollution. In fact, the choice many people make to ride public transportation may even translate into fewer car accidents and vehicle-related deaths and injuries. Additionally, the use of public transportation also means less gas is consumed each year.

概要写作

阅读下面短文, 根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。

During all kinds of holidays, millions of people will buy gifts for loved ones. This is a great thing but tons of those people will make the same mistake, and buy the wrong gift. What's going on? Gift buying has become a selfish deed. We don't actually look for things people want to receive. Instead, and too many of our gifts' harm, we tend to look for things that we want to give. It's a subtle(微妙的), but pretty significant problem.

Research has shown that givers tend to value the gifts they buy considerably more than receivers. Gifts are valued about 10 to 33 percent less by receivers than what givers paid for them, Joel Waldfogel noted in Scroogenomics: Why You Shouldn't Buy Presents for the Holidays, his 2019 book on gift-giving.

The disagreement seems to come from a simple wrong belief that thoughtful presents are the best presents. They are not. In fact, they might be the worst presents. The more thought you put into a present, the more likely you are to get lost in buying what the person you're buying the present for actually wants.

In other words, people let their gift-giving egos(自我)get in the way of great presents. Especially when the receiver is someone they want to show they know really well. Fortunately, the answer to our same insistence on guessing what people want is simple: stop it.

If that's too hard, or impersonal, there's another helpful rule. Instead of buying restrictive(限制的)gifts, like gift cards for specific stores, buy gifts that allow for flexibility, like gift cards that can be used more broadly(or better yet, cash). People tend to prefer gift cards to actual gifts, and cash to both, Steffel explained. Steffel's latest research, which focuses on gift card giving, points to exactly this point—that versatility(多用途) is the key to better gift giving.

There has been a rise in road traffic accidents from the beginning of this year until Friday, the Traffic Police (TP) said in a statement on Saturday. TP recorded 36 deadly accidents which resulted in 38 deaths, or an increase of three severe accidents and four deaths, respectively, compared with the same period last year. The rise was due mainly to victims who were motorcyclists and vehicle passengers. Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize in no more than 60 words the main idea of the passage and how it is illustrated. Use your own words as far as possible.

Envy

It's a familiar but uncomfortable feeling. Your best friend will marry a handsome doctor, and the congratulatory hug you offer lacks genuine warmth. Your friend is made the team for Saturday's big game, and you take a certain pleasure in telling him you can't be there to watch him play. You smile but a voice in your head asks, why them and not you?

Envy is a shortcoming of character we like to keep in our heart secretly. How shameful is it not to be looking forward with delight to your day as your best friend's bridesmaid! Who would hope your friend might suffer some injury, so you can take his place on the team?

Envy is everywhere. It seems to be in our nature to hate others' gifts and good fortune, especially if we see them as advantages they shouldn't have.

Envy raises its ugly head when we focus on what we want but we don't possess now. Worse still, we may even wish for and take pleasure in someone's losing what we have always desired. When you compare yourself and your life unfavorably with your friend or your colleague, you can only keep your darker emotions.

So, is there a solution? Is there anything you can do to get rid of this most ungenerous emotion? Well, why not make envy the motivation you need for self-improvement? The best weapon against envy is not to compete where you can't shine, but to do your absolute best where you can.

Start by making peace with yourself, and accept the gifts which make you unique. Make an agreement with yourself to be the best you can be. Then find the qualities in others that cause your envy. Is it someone's singing voice, their work promotion, their new car? Envy shows us the things we'd like to have. So, make a plan to earn what's important to you.

And aim for genuine pleasure in the achievements and good fortune of others. Cheer on your friend when he scores that goal. Enjoy your best friend's wedding day. Then go out and do something special, and make yourself wonderfully proud of you.

阅读短文, 根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。

Change is an unavoidable part of everyday life. It happens as time passes or as a consequence of one's decision. Changes may be positive or negative depending on how we understand them. Whereas some people are happy to live a life of routine, others accept change and prefer a challenging world where events are unpredictable.

From one point of view, people who accept changes think that changes make their life meaningful. Firstly, changes create new opportunities, which make us leap forward. A new job, for instance, might present challenges that push the person to adapt, acquire new knowledge, or add to their skill set. Secondly, a change can represent a break with the past and an old routine which has become boring and predictable. Finally, as well as making life more fun and interesting, new experiences can be good for our physical and mental health. We find that changes can make us experienced and valuable.

On the other hand, people who don't want to step outside their comfort zone prefer following their daily habits. They feel satisfied with their circumstances. Perhaps they feel that a routine gives them structure, maybe they are not fond of surprises or confident enough to face new challenges. They believe that staying secure and maintaining the present circumstances is the best way to live life safer. Such people have set times for performing certain functions and do things in the same way all the time. They fear the uncertainty of the unknown and may associate change with negative outcomes. For example, transition in position or status gives people worries as to whether they can manage a new task.

Both sides seem to have their own advantages. However, I personally think change is necessary if someone wants to keep up with the fast pace of modern life. Even if some people maintain a form of stability by following a routine, the world keeps spinning and evolving. Without change there would be no life at all. Our lives are actually fueled by change and seeing change as natural and unavoidable will bring us considerable stress relief.

Although being famous might sound like a dream come true, today's stars, feeling like zoo animals, face pressures that few of us can imagine. They are at the center of much of the world's attention. Paparazzi(狗仔队) camp outside their homes, cameras ready. Tabloids (小报) publish thrilling stories about their personal lives. Just imagine not being able to do anything without being photographed or interrupted for a signature. According to psychologist Christina Villarreal, celebrities—famous people—worry constantly about their public appearance. Eventually, they start to lose track of who they really are, seeing themselves the way their fans imagine them, not as the people they were before everyone knew their names. "Over time,'' Villarreal says, "they feel separated and lonely."

The phenomenon of tracking celebrities has been around for ages. In the 4th century B.C., painters followed Alexander the Great into battle, hoping to picture his victories for his admirers. When Charles Dickens visited America in the 19th century, his sold-out readings attracted thousands of fans, leading him to complain about his lack of privacy. Tabloids of the 1920s and 1930s ran articles about film-stars in much the same way that modern tabloids and websites do.

Being a public figure today, however, is a lot more difficult than it used to be. Superstars cannot move about without worrying about photographers with modern cameras. When they say something silly or do something ridiculous, there is always the Internet to spread the news in minutes and keep their ‘story' alive forever.

If fame is so troublesome, why aren't all celebrities running away from it? The answer is that there are still ways to deal with it. Some stars stay calm by surrounding themselves with trusted friends and family or by escaping to remote places away from big cities. They focus not on how famous they are but on what they love to do or whatever made them famous in the first place. Sometimes a few celebrities can get a little justice. Still, even stars who enjoy full justice often complain about how hard their lives are. They are tired of being famous already.
