请阅读下面短文,并按要求以Our Life Rests on Our Choice为题,用英语写一篇150词左右的文章。

Life is a matter of choice. Seemingly, it means a choice of concrete (具体的) things. But in fact, it means choosing a way of life. Life is to be lived and enjoyed, not to be wasted or complained about.

Hardly can we forget the time when our society faced the threat from the life-and death disease— SARS. Yet, even during those dreadful times, some suffering people remained optimistic. Instead of wearing white masks, some people turned to colorful ones, and thus displayed a happy mood. And some creative people dubbed SARS to mean “SMILE AND REMAIN SMILING.” People who survive these kinds of circumstances decide in their minds to carry on in spite of the hardships.

Although we cannot choose our appearance, inborn gifts and even avoid unexpected disasters and adversities (逆境), we do have the right to choose to live optimistically, to love our lives, to have dreams, and to cherish hopes.

Every morning when we get up, we have a choice of how we want to approach life that day.

While many of us go to sleep before midnight, some teenagers choose to stay up much later. They are not driven by the burning desire to write a better essay or achieve a higher grade. Instead, they are busy playing online games. Known as young Internet addicts, they have long been a problem in China. A report released(发布) in 2010 by the China Youth Association for Network Development showed that there were over 24 million young Internet addicts among China's young urban Internet users. The report also said that over 18 million youth tended to develop Internet addiction.

To deal with the problem of Internet addiction among teenagers, the Cyberspace Administration of China released draft regulations (法规草案) in January which carried out a ban on online gaming. If the regulations are passed, under-18s would be banned from playing online games between midnight and 8 am.

As soon as the government's draft law was introduced, it drew great attention from the public. Some thought highly of the law as a way to better protect teenagers, saying that too much overnight gaming is harmful to teenagers' health and believing the period between midnight and 8 am to be important to human physical functions. However, others wondered whether it would be practicable if it came into effect, as teenagers could just borrow their parent' IDs to register (登录)accounts to play online games. The Guangming Daily suggested that parents should help their teenagers find a balance between the cyber(网络的)world and the real world.

China is by no means the only one trying to fight against teenage gaming addiction. Germany introduced a regulation in 2002 trying to stop teenagers from playing online games from 10 pm to 6 am. Meanwhile, the UK, the US and Australia have forced a rating system(分级制) on computer games to make sure that teenagers cannot access  “adult” content such as violence, sex or bad language.

阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。

In our modern world, when something wears out, we throw it away and buy a new one. The problem is that countries around the world have growing mountains of rubbish because people are throwing out more rubbish than ever before.

How do the society become a throwaway one? First of all, it is now easier to replace an object than to spend time and money repairing it. Thanks to modern manufacturing (制造业) and technology, companies are able to produce products quickly and inexpensively. Products are plentiful and cheap.

Another cause is our love of disposable (一次性的) products. As busy people, we are always looking for ways to save time and make our lives easier. Companies produce thousands of different kinds of disposable products: paper plates, plastic cups, and cameras, to name a few.

Our appetite for new products also contributes to the problem. We are addicted to buying new things. Advertisements persuade us that newer is better and that we will be happier with the latest products. The result is that we throw away useful possessions to make room for new ones.

All around the world, we can see the consequences of this throwaway lifestyle. Mountains of rubbish just keep getting bigger. To decrease the amount of rubbish and to protect the environment, more governments are requiring people to recycle materials. However, this is not enough to solve our problem.

Maybe there is another way out. We need to repair our possessions instead of throwing them away. We also need to rethink our attitudes towards spending. Repairing our possessions and changing our spending habits may be the best way to reduce the amount of rubbish and take care of our environment.

School uniforms are becoming more and more popular across the world. That's no surprise, because they offer many benefits. They immediately end the powerful social sorting(分类) and labeling(标记)that come from clothing. If all students are dressed in the same way, they will not pay too much attention to their clothing, and some of them will not be laughed at for wearing the "wrong" clothes.

Some people are against the strict rule of school uniforms, but they do not realize that students already accept a kind of rule—wanting to look just like their friends. The difference is that the clothing students choose for themselves creates social barriers (障碍);school uniforms tear(扯下;拆毁) those barriers down.

As in other places, uniforms remind the wearers of their purposes and duties. For example, when a man or woman puts on a police uniform, he or she becomes, for a time, the symbol (象征) of law and order. The uniform means to the wearer his or her special duties and sends the same message to everyone the wearer meets. People with different jobs wear uniforms of one kind or another. For students, the school uniform reminds them that their task for the six or seven hours they are in school is to get an education.

Some parents are unhappy about uniforms, saying that school uniforms will affect their children's "creativity". First, as noted above, the clothes students choose to wear do not necessarily express their individuality. They just copy their classmates. Second, students have the rest of the day to be as creative as they like. While they're in school, their job is to master reading, writing, and maths; this should take up all the creativity they have. Mastery of those skills will be good for the students to build up their creativity in every way.

Classroom Pets

Watching duck eggs hatch in a classroom was a "wow" experience that brought the topic to life, says Sarah Holmes, teacher in Derby High School's primary department. Classrooms across the UK house a wide range of school pets: hamsters, fish, guinea pigs and even tortoises. But though they teach children about nature, it is not always a happy story, animal charities say, and it might be teaching children the wrong lessons.

In some schools, animals die because the school cannot afford vets' fees. The eggs at Derby High came from a company that provided detailed instructions on how to care or the ducklings and took them back to rear, but the service costs money not all schools can afford. The Potteries Guinea Pig Rescue based in Stoke-on-trent, has taken in a number of guinea pigs from schools in North Stafforshire that have found themselves unable to care for the animals. The schools thought it was a good idea until the animal experienced health issues and they had to pay for vet treatment.

Many teachers who keep classroom pets do so with good intentions. But as a matter of fact, a classroom simply isn't a suitable home for an animal. The sleep-wake cycles of nocturnal(夜间活动的) animals such as mice and hamsters are disturbed by bright classroom lights and by pupils taking them out of their cages and handling them.  Peta (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) says it hears complaints that animals have died after being over-handled or through accidents occurring when being played with. "I can't imagine many things worse than being limited to a cage stuck in a noisy classroom all day," one citizen said.

Nevertheless, Debs Howe, a former biology teacher who now runs an egg hatching company, says that done responsibly, looking after animals can be an experience children don't forget. For children who may have issues accessing the curriculum often due to autism (自闭症) or emotional or behavioral issues, the hatching of chicks has an incredible effect. It's also particularly appealing to those who always live in cities with little access to farms or nature.

Where Arts Should Get Its Funding?

Few people would contest the value of arts in a civilized society. Great art enriches people's lives by providing pleasure, stimulation and an escape from the pressure of everyday life. However, it is also true that many of the arts, such as classical music, the ballet, and the visual arts have always attracted a minority audience. The question is whether the arts should be publicly funded, or whether it is the consumers who should pay.

It is my view that the government should subsidize the arts, for a number of reasons. First of all, without subsidies, many artists would undoubtedly be unable to survive financially. Government grants can enable them to work with artistic freedom, while if they worked independently or relied on private subsidies they might be subject to market pressures and the need to make a profit. Secondly, the arts contribute to a nation's cultural heritage and can create a sense of social identity. They can also play an important role in education, community regeneration and even crime prevention. However, the main argument for public funding of the arts is not social usefulness, but rather because they are important for their own sake.

Of course, there are those who argue that public money would be better spent on meeting the needs of the poorer members of society, rather than catering for the interests of an elite. However, I believe that a healthy society is one in which art and creativity are valued alongside these basic needs. Indeed, a civilized society ought to make the arts accessible to everyone, regardless of their background or income.

In conclusion, the arts should be funded across a broad range of activities, for example, by supporting community or school theatre projects, or bringling sculptures and art installations to public places.

A 15-year-old boy planned to put a ball covered with petrol into his mouth and set it on fire. He would film the dangerous action and put it on YouTube. And, he hoped to become famous on the Internet. But things didn't go the way he imagined. His clothing caught fire, and he was rushed to the hospital with serious burns on his body.

YouTube hosts millions of videos of people attempting dangerous actions. Many of them are by kids and young adults. Some experts say that by hosting these videos, YouTube encourages young viewers to take deadly risks. Research by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that more than 180, 000 Americans die from accidental injuries each year. That's one person every three minutes. More than 14, 000 of those killed are kids under the age of 19. Is YouTube to blame?

People have always found it interesting to watch others try risky things. Audiences are mad about these kinds of things. Some of the earliest Greek comedies had characters followed by wild animals and knocking into walls. Now, in the age of the Internet, anyone with a camera and a YouTube account can create this kind of "fun". Many viewers, especially teenagers, are influenced by what they see and want to try it themselves. "YouTube has taken the playing in the neighborhood to a worldwide level, " says Clair Mellenthin, a researcher from the Centers.

Supporters of YouTube argue that it isn't YouTube's responsibility to examine its content. "Parents should be the ones to make sure that kids are behaving safely, " they say. In fact, YouTube has a rule on content. For example, dangerous activities that have a risk of serious physical harm or death are not allowed. Staff of YouTube, carefully watch the website 24 hours a day, looking for videos that are against their rules. But is this enough?
