Portugal's Most Beautiful Seaside Destinations
The long coastline of Portugal is extraordinarily diverse. Wind your way along it and you will find true Portugal, its history, its heart and its soul.
Viana do Castelo
In a beautiful setting on the Lima river mouth, the streets of this historic town are lined with noble houses in different styles, built using the wealth with which the 16th-century explorers returned from their ocean travels. The main square, Praca da Republica, with its notable 16th-century Misericordia building, is at the centre of the town's winding streets. The capital of Minho folk culture, there is a booming handicraft industry here.
Aveiro
Described as "the Venice of Portugal" because of its canals and the colourful, gondola-like boats, or moliceiros, which navigate them, the city is also celebrated for the bright contemporary art graffiti that line its main canal. Visit the fish market, filled with all kinds of fish and seafood that feature in local menu.
Nazare
Best visited out of season, for this is a popular——and crowded——summer resort. Nazare has a glorious beach that surrounds a bay backed by high cliffs. Its origins as a fishing village are evident and it maintains old traditions such as the regional dress that the women wear in the fish market.
Azeitao
This town is famed for the manual cheese to which it has given its name. The oldest producer of table wine in Portugal, Jose Maria da Fonseca, also has its storing basements here. Just outside the town is the Quinta da Bacalhoa, a wine producer and the 15th-century architectural treasure, once owned by the royal family.

This year I did something I once swore I'd never do—shopping at midnight on Black Friday. I know, I'm crazy. So why would I bear three things I resent—traffic, cold weather, and crowds—for a few bargains? Teenagers.
I have two of them, and I love them with my whole heart, even though, for them, spending time with Mom is usually down on their list next to homework and picking up the dog waste. I am no longer the one with whom they want to share a secret, play a game, or just hang out. So, when they asked me to take them shopping at midnight on Black Friday, my first reaction was definitely no! But my son, who usually runs the other way if I mention shopping, wanted me to take him shopping. I felt needed.
There was an hour's car ride. We belted out songs on the radio, laughing at who got the words wrong and who was off key. We talked about the deals we hoped to score. The kids quarreled back and forth as usual, and I had to keep the peace. That's what moms do.
Once inside, we had to work as a team, one going this way, one the other, hoping to come together with just the right size and color. Searching for a particular shirt for my husband was proving to be a losing battle as I dug through pile after pile of untidy clothing. Giving up in defeat, I turned to see my daughter coming toward me, shirt in hand and victory on her face. "I got the last one!”
So we got out at 3 a. m. with some bargains. But for me, I got so much more. Quality time with my kids. Driving home, I looked in the rearview mirror at my children's sweet faces, both sleeping in the car like they did when they were little. If they ask me to go again next year, I'm in.

On April 21, 2020, the Enigma Shipwrecks Project( ESP) team revealed the discovery of a dozen ancient trading ships in the Levantine Basin, the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea, a popular ancient shipping route. Even more exciting, the shipwrecks (遇难船)comprise a mix of boats dating from between the 3rd century B. C. and the 19th century, providing historians new insights into the evolution of trade along one of the world's most popular ancient shipping routes along the Eastern Mediterranean Sea.
Sean Kingsley, one of ESP's lead archeologists, said:" This is truly the most incredible discoveries under the Mediterranean. ” The shipwrecks, lying in the seabed about 1.2 miles below the surface, were discovered in 2015 by ESP's remote -controlled robots. Since then, the archeologists have been using technology to map, record, and carefully collect the well-preserved items the ships were carrying. "It's painstaking, slow work—it's two hours just for the robot to go down to the sea bed. ”
The researchers say the oldest shipwreck dates back 2,200 years from Alexander the Great's death in 323 B. C. to 31 B. C. , when Roman troops conquered the last of his land. The discovery of religious objects on its deck has led them to assume the ship sunk while the crew was praying. The most significant find was a 43-meter-long trading ship, large enough to accommodate two merchant ships on its deck. Believed to have sunk around 1630, while sailing between Egypt and Istanbul, it was filled with goods from 14 cultures and civilizations.
Though there was initially some concern that the artifacts may be the property of the Cyprus government, it has now been proved that the shipwrecks were in international waters. Therefore, the objects belong to ESP which plans to share them with the world. Kingsley says, "We want to make sure this gift ends up in a public museum so everyone can enjoy it.”

【2】What can we infer from the comment of Sean Kingsley?
A.Robots made it possible to collect the items from the shipwrecks.
B.The items from the shipwreck would be better protected undersea.
C.Since the shipwrecks were discovered, recovery work has been slow.
D.The team made the most wonderful discovery of shipwrecks in the world.
【3】What did the researchers find from the shipwrecks?
A.Romans defeated Alexander the Great in a war at sea.
B.Advanced technology was employed in the ancient ships.
C.There were abundant cultural exchanges along the trade route.
D.Foreign trading with China began more than 2200 years ago.
【4】What will Sean most probably do with the objects found in the shipwrecks?
A.Give them back to Cyprus B.Sell them to private collectors.
C.Return them to the original countries D.Donate them to a public museum.

Jax, a Belgian malinois, was too gentle to be a military dog and found work attacking a different kind of enemy: invasive species taking over North America.
The two-year-old animal has been trained by Working Dogs for Conservation, a charity based in Montana that uses dogs to help conservatives. From Yellowstone, Wyoming, to Alberta, Canada, they sniff out unwelcome ants, and weeds threatening natural ecosystem.
Jax and two other dogs, Barley and Tobias, were used in Yellowstone to detect zebra and quagga mussels, which have reached 46 US states and can damage lake ecosystems by eating algae that fish feed on. Their spread is hard to stop because their larvae can be picked up on boats.
Kayla Fratt, who trained the dogs, said, 'People were more willing to have their boats inspected and to learn about the mussels as soon as we were there with the dogs. We talked to over 700 people about invasive species.'
Invasive species cost the US economy more than $ 120 billion a year, the US Fish and Wildlife Service said in a report last month. Americans national parks had become overrun with invasive species, the Service said.
The 35 animals trained by Working Dogs come from shelters or previous training programs, but all have high energy and intense focus. They'll do anything to get their reward, making them easier to train. Tobias started life as a stray, and Barley was given up by a family who couldn't handle his energy.
The group also helped others to train dogs. Last year was its first working with US national parks and they hope the work would continue. Ms Fratt said, "We were joking that 2020 is going to shape up to be the year of the ferret for us. ” Conservationists are eager to study black-footed ferrets, a highly endangered North American species with signs of recovering. They're difficult to track and it's hoped that the dogs can help.

A.They are always energetic and attentive.
B.They're afraid to be abandoned by the base.
C.They were once well-trained military dogs.

【3】What is black-footed ferret?
A.An endangered species hard to find.

You don’t need to be a world-class mountaineer to stand out in a job interview. Here’s my advice on how to nail the most common interview question.
Most people are so eager to show off what they’ve been involved in. Don’t worry, and there will be time for that. The interviewer has reviewed your resume and will ask you plenty about your expertise. “Tell me about yourself” is a question you’re certain to be asked at any job interview.【1】However, sharing something that shows who you really are beyond a piece of paper is a good idea. It will allow the interviewer to know something about your life outside of work.
Everyone has something interesting to share about themselves. I’ve heard people talk about everything from being a world-class sushi chef to an ice carver.【2】 Such as you participate in competitive sports, you're an accomplished (技艺高超的) pianist and you’re writing your first detective novel. If the information showcases a unique aspect of yourself, and especially if you can link it to what you can bring to your next job, then go for it.
Another way to think about the question is: “What gets you up every morning?” The person also wants to know what your sense of passion and purpose is. That volunteer work on a farm cooperative in South America, for example, shows you have a global perspective. 【3】 It doesn’t matter how big or small the accomplishment is, as long as it shows you’re struggling to improve yourself. When people are motivated by contributing to something bigger than themselves, they get more satisfaction.
【4】 Relax, be yourself and tell the truth. Don't approach the interview like you’re trying out for Broadway. It’s more than obvious when someone is trying to memorize their lines and “play the part”. Also, if you overstate what you've done or fully invent a story about yourself, you'll be exposed.【5】
A.Take a risk to get personal.
B.Showing honesty is one of the most important things.
C.Running your first 10 kilometers shows you like a challenge.
D.And then everything you say about yourself will be questioned.
E.It's also important to tell it in a way that makes you memorable.
F.Too many people respond to it by giving a recital of their resume.
G."Tell me about yourself" is an invitation for you to share brief information.
